Not any time soon though... But it's apparently in development guys!

Valve, a game developer, has confirmed that they are actively working on developing Half-Life 3 through User Picker tool (an internal tool). The User Picker tool is used by the developer not only to manage personnel involved in the development of projects, but also to track the projects currently being worked on.

The whole point of using the tool is to avoid any member of the public, or individual who is not involved on the project, from accessing information from it. The tool should therefore not be seen or accessed by individuals who are not working on the project. However, in a rare gaffe, the company made it accessible. As a result, gamers of the series got the chance to get a glimpse of the entries for either Half-Life 3 version Core or Half-Life 3. The former might be the name of the technology utilized with the current title.

Please be excited even though I don't give a ****.

But we have Halo and Call of Duty. This, Halflife 3 better be good to top those.

I never got into the series but I know that this could potentially be a Steambox system seller for many.

Didn't Gabe Newell said that they were only kind of working on Half Life 3? i remember that he was saying his team didn't have particular interest in the game since they didn't have any good ideas for it...anyway, i gave up with HL3 a while ago, as a huge fan of the previous games i'm aware that we won't play the third entry in at least 3 years from now.

Valve have said they aren't having exclusives. If its on Steam then its on PC.

Nice source, it doesn't seem at all like the guy is talking out of his ass.

Anyway, articles like this one keep sprouting every now and then and they never go anywhere. Let it rest. Half Life 3 is not coming. Even if it did sometime, I don't get why anyone should give a ****. It's been too long since the last one, games have been getting better, we have moved on. It's like being excited at the prospects of a new Tomba platformer.

I have this feeling it'll be coming out next year and has been in development, on-and-off, for the last 5-7 years in conjunction with their new engine technology.

There is no way they would make people wait more than a decade for a completely new iteration in their most popular series.

I dont understand why people are so hyped about Half life, sure back in the days when first game came it was not much competition/many shooters. But today i dare to say it is a lot more interesting games out or coming than Half Life...

Both Half Life and it's sequel were ground-breaking games for video game story-telling. They were mechanically average, but revolutionary in terms of how they immersed the player in the world.

If VALVe can hit the bell a third time, HL's relevancy will become golden again.

I find it ridiculous that HL2 came out almost a decade ago and they still haven't made HL3.

I almost feel sorry for Valve.

Once it's officially announced, it will unquestionably be the most hyped videogame in history.

No matter how amazing it actually is, it will "disappoint" hordes of gamers because unless a Victoria's Secret Angel gives them a lap dance while driving an F1 car on moon...it will be "underwhelming".

Did i say CoD is better? I own all HL games/expansions but it is far from my top games when it comes to shooters. What games is better imo? sure; the first Bioshock, Metro and Stalkers is so much better to name a few shooters.

They could just release it randomly without announcing it as some sort of social experiment. They don't need marketing to sell the game and make ass-tons of money, so why not? Just surprise everyone at like 3 am on a Wednesday or something.

It's also highly likely they'll bundle it with something, like with the Orange Box or how Half-Life 2 was initially bundled with Counter-Strike: Source.

Valve is in no rush, they're making bank just running Steam, they'll release it when it's good and done. Any other publisher would be cracking the whip to meet quartly deadlines because they need revenues to make profits, whether Valve releases this on time or not probably won't make any big bump in the profits they pull from Steam sales.

Gabe stops talking when people mention Half-Life 3 around him - so not sure what you're referring to.

Detail? Valve makes incredibly detailed games, which starkly contrast the FPS games coming out today. What's the last FPS to come out that had as much detail as HL2? If anything, Valve should have an easy time impressing people - their competition hasn't been incredibly strong...

They've been playing with their own controllers and VR controllers, so perhaps that's the reason behind the silence and the delays?
