Remember that story from a few days ago about how hackers are almost done hacking the Wii U? It turns out that they're losing interest because nobody in the community is excited by the development.

This is getting sad.

It's to do with the fact that easier, and more widely available devices are available. Still, your topic will probably be locked.

But isn't hacking something difficult considered a bigger achievement among hackers than hacking something that is easy or already hacked ?

Maybe... I'm not sure. Depends on the hacker. It seems these guys were more interested in the homebrew scene, which is already booming on other devices.

Hacking a device with ancient technology that nobody uses is pointless.

I like this comment: "Thing is, eventually it is going to sell enough that they will come back to it, so we should enjoy it while we can. I'll take no DLC for a hack-free version of CoD any day."

I didn't read it entirely :P Whatever the case is though, other hackers will step in where this one quit.

Maybe this was Nintendo's intention all along; make a hack proof console.

By making a product so undesirable, hackers won't even bother with it.

Yes, at least people care enough about the system to hack it in the first place. Any electronic that is relevant gets hacked, that's just how the world is.

That's pretty sad. More games down the drain. It sucks that Nintendo is more than happy with themselves releasing games at the speed of molasses.

Homebrew really only grew because there was nothing convenient at the time for an all-in-one device. The only thing that'll drive people to develop for it is to make USB loaders to play ripped games. Don't expect PS4/720 to get any different treatment.

People spinning this as bad news are morons who didn't read the article.

Atom based PCs are dirt cheap & much easier to customize to run any homebrew apps, why would anyone still be interested in hacking a last gen capable hardware?

Well it says in the article that the guy thinks that homebrew for closed platforms is becoming unappealing in general.

I wouldn't just dismiss the WiiU here.

He also says that writing a homebrew program is rather difficult especially when there is the pirating scene running as well. Honestly I do tend to agree with him on that aspect. Its probably not all that easy to work out a program like that from scratch and the incentive may not really be there if there is some pirating. The hacking part is only just the beginning.

Plenty of the hackers were interested in homebrew more than anything. The problem is that the hardware is not reasonably powerful enough, especially when it already costs so much, be worth hacking and coding for, when the same amount of money could be put into a much better media PC or really cheap media box.
