as much hate GTA IV..gets its storyline outclasses V by a mile....

Niko was actually pretty well deveoped character...and the storyline was more "realistic" but also dark and gritty....

the only protagonist for gta 5 that comes close to Niko was Michael..... and while i did like Michael alot...he wasn't as well developed cause of the whole 3 protagonist think

Trevor and Franklin were kind of meh......

GTA V mechanics and features, with GTA IV storyline, characters would of been amazing

Agreed.

Michael and Trevor were cool, although Trevor was pretty straightforward. And they ruined Michael near the end of the game. Just couldn't stand with what they did with him. It's so insanely forced.

Franklin was just an empty shell that was merely there to tell Michael and Trevor to calm down. His conversations with Lamar were funny though.

At least I finished GTA5.

i liked 5 better.

4 may in fact be the better story with the better character but i personally liked flipping about between the three.

i also liked how i played the game differently depending on who i was at the time.

in gta 4 i basically played it as myself doing the things i would do in similar circumstances.

in gta 5 i played the game how i thought the gta 5 characters would face the challenge.

for example i have never been one of those guys that slaughters innocents and murders anything just for the hell of it even to the point of avoiding pedestrians when possible but when played as trevor i just straight up killed anything that got in my way and drove over people with reckless abandon.

gta 5 giving me a reason to switch up my gameplay style was probably the most brilliant thing about it in my opinion.

The middle act tends to drag. Otherwise, I would agree. Niko's personal story is much more fascinating than anything the GTA5 protagonists had to offer, and unlike GTA5's story, it had a clear central conflict.

The fifth's storyline is probably one of the weakest in the series.

What did they do to Michael that you didn't like?

I agree GTA4 had a better story but GTA5 owned in every other aspect.

Turned him into this overly family guy all of a sudden. It's especially annoying in those character switches.
He becomes a total softie in such a short period. Not to mention him being a softie is written in such a cringe worthy way.

"Wow, this yoga is so much fun :3"

GTAIV gets hate? It was universally loved by most for 5 years.

And the story was good because it was "realistic"? What kind of compliment is that? It's "dark and gritty"? So is Gears of War.

System Wars hates that game. What are you smoking?

Anyway, I agree. GTA 4 had a better story, but the ability to switch between 3 different characters was so cool, I can forgive the game. Not to mention the better mission, vehicle, weapon, and environment variety and better mechanics.

Some people here dislike the game (myself included) but no one reasonable HATES it.

San Andreas is still the best to me. I think overall 5 is better than 4. I think they left and opening at the end of for for DLC later on.

I agree. Especially once you add in the Episodes, it's a much more thoughtfully constructed multi-character story than GTAV. And each of GTAIV's storylines goes out with a bang, unlike GTAV which has a pretty terrible ending. And it's not as obnoxious about its humor and "satire." And there was actually a strong underlying theme. And there were interesting and even sympathetic characters.

GTA IV still sucked regardless.

#21 Posted by Gargus (2147 posts) -

I haven't played GT5 but it must be awful if it beats out "Im a foreign guy whos come to America to escape my past life of doing bad things. Oh no Im sucked back into doing bad things. Oh wait Im somebody. Oh wait things went to shit and now Im in trouble. Oh no someone died at a wedding. I got revenge. The end" because that shtick got old several decades ago the other 4,398 times it was done in movies, games, comic books, novels and tv shows.

You are correct 4 does tell a better story all things considered.

5 is still a dramatically superior game though all things considered. Still a lot of typical Rockstar game drawbacks where Rockstar goes up their own, proceeds to come right back out the mouth just to right up their own ass again. But regardless 5 is still a better game than 4. Which frankly had no business called good, much less the work of excellence it was made out to be. It was an over stuffed shit barrel.

#23 Posted by Netret0120 (1906 posts) -

Agreed.

GTA 4 has the better story but GTA5 is the better game overall. There is tons of stuff to do in GTA5 but in 4, once you finish the story there isn't much to do.

GTA4 for it's time was a masterpiece. There was no sandbox next gen game that even came close. I am sure we will say the same thing once GTA6 comes out about GTA5

#24 Posted by farrell2k (5212 posts) -

No one really cares. GTA games are played for about a week until everyone gets sick of beating hookers and running down people in public, then they're not played again until the next one comes out, which is invariably the same as the last one.

The Lost And Damned> gta V>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>gta iv

but gta iv is the better game, especially on pc

#26 Posted by dbtbandit67 (353 posts) -

@lanterncorps: Well, it did feel more "crime epic" than GTA 5, but there was a lot of useless filler in there. With GTA 5, every mission counted.

#27 Posted by Vaasman (11141 posts) -

Neither has that great of a story anyway so who cares?

#28 Posted by finalfantasy94 (26170 posts) -

I found GTA4 story and main character very boring and uninteresting.I only finished the game cause I paid for it and picked it up during midnight launch.

not really, I didn't care about the story of gta 4 at all while i really like the one of 5. For me there is absolutely nothing gta 4 did better than gta 5. Nothing. Gta 4 was just a garbage game that should have never existed

#31 Posted by legol1 (1998 posts) -

Gta5 i

s better un so Many ways. Gta4 was a huge disapointment.

#32 Posted by CTR360 (6858 posts) -

GTAV its better game for me overall

#33 Posted by Suppaman100 (3596 posts) -

GTA IV was epic...on PC

GTA IV on consoles, was just good.

GTA V on consoles was great.

So; GTA IV PC > GTA V > GTA IV consoles

And episodes of liberty city are (almost) on par with GTA V.

#34 Posted by bezza2011 (2218 posts) -

GTA IV was awful, the game was just flat out boring, i wouldn't know about the story because of how boring the game was so i just put it away. GTA5 was just fun, maybe still abit to much eye candy and not enough activities and i'm in agreement with some people, the whole michael thing was terrible, i mean honestly the people who created gta the best they could come up with was activities like tennis golf, triathlon???, YOGA???? i mean seriously by the end of the game i thought am i even playing a gta game here or a soap opera??? i mean even the end hiest was just a walk in the park and the end of the game allowed you to buy properties but you had nothing to spend your cash on or even make alot of money.

GTA IV may have had a better storyline, but GTA V had better gameplay, much better gameplay, and despite popular belief, the most important aspect of a game is gameplay.
