Yeah, in years back, this thread was done numerous times before (at least I think so, granted I haven't seen one in a while), but in your opinion, what great games can you think of with terrible multiplayer?
My choice goes back to the N64 era.
Star Fox 64/Lylat Wars - As a single player arcade style rail shooter, it's still a great title that holds up to this day. But I can not hold ANY praise for it's multiplayer for how outdated it was even for back then. Sure, tell me it's among the first of it's kind (and point me to some niche PC/PS/Saturn/etc game that may have outdid it before SF64 did, I'm talking about Nintendo and the N64's own standards), but the problem is, Star Fox 64's multiplayer was outdated THE YEAR it released. In that time, Mario Kart 64 (as bored as I was with that game) and Goldeneye 007 were coming out and both brought something Star Fox lacked, VARIETY. Said variety wasn't even AS restricted in those games either, when Star Fox limited you to ONE ship (you couldn't get another until you unlocked it from single player mode), no choice of characters (player one is stuck with Fox, player four is stuck with Slippy, you get the idea), and even if you add the unlockable Landmaster and On-Foot modes, YOU STILL won't get a lot out of it.
I remember when 64 3D was coming out and Nintendo announced that there would be no online mode and the backlash they got for it, but to date, I still think it wouldn't help a painfully limited experience. As ProJared has said in regards to people modding TMNT: Out of the Shadows to make it playable: "You can polish a turd, but then it's a shiny turd."
Even the disliked Star Fox Assault did better at improving it's multiplayer and I can ONLY hope the new Star Fox for Wii U (if it's not a damn episodic game, if it is, I'm not buying like I didn't Sonic 4... unless it's COMPLETE like Back to the Future, then that may be another story) does better at that.
Anyway, what are your choices?
