Graphics engine fight

So which, do you think, is the currently best engine?

From what I've seen till now, I'd say the upgraded UE3 is the best but I believe Cry Engine 3 is better. I'm also curious how Doom 4 turns out to be.

I think id Tech 5 will surprise a lot of people. Carmack is a programming god.

Id tech 5 is the only right answer.

Whatever is running Uncharted, Killzone, or God of War. Those games look great, especially considering how old the ps3 hardware is. It's crazy how ps3 just keep looking better and better.

Crysis 2 could look a lot better and didn't even top the original. As for UE3+, we haven't seen anything but a tech demo which you can't trust. And the gameplay footage we've seen from Battlefield 3 looks unbelievably incredible. Rage also looks very, very good, but while id has impressed me(again) they haven't shown anything quite comparable to Frostbite 2.

Every single one of them only looks as good as the artwork made for the game. ;)

Id tech 5, look at RAGE 60 fps and one of the best looking games, and there is ND engine.

I started playing GOW3 again the game looks great the textures look great and the MLAA works pretty good, what engine is santa monica using ?

gow3 is tied for teh current console graphics king :o

guerilla games, naughty dog, and santa monica all use their own proprietary engines. as well as insomniac and sucker punch :)

I will always remember that boss fight 8) that and chronos were just too epic. actually so was hercules :o *not as much though.*

yeah gow is pretty gorgeous, santa monica has some really good artists there.

eh, we'll see what the crystal tools engine can really do when FF 13 versus comes out. (I hope it ends up being as good as I hope...)

because in Final fantasy 13 there's hardly anything going on and the levels are very small and extremely linear. it looks pretty though.

The Black Ops engine has very little to do with the original Quake 3 engine though. It's just Quake 3 engine at core but it's so upgraded it's basically a new engine.

From this perspective you could also say that all Quake engine and Unreal engine based games actually use a very upgraded Quake 1 and Unreal 1 engine.
