GoldenEye is Overrated.

I come to dethrone Goldneye from it's "First Amazing Console FPS" or whatever you wish to pin on it. Rare was extremely sloppy when they made this game. This game has way too many flaws to be amazing. It's just easy to ignore when you're playing an innovative FPS that hasn't been done before. Let's see what we have here. First Case...

Where to begin? This main menu is extremely creepy. I shouldn't have to explain what's wrong with it.

-------------------------------------Pointless Button Interaction

I've always asked myself "What's the ****ing point of this?".

Why does a truck come through? What does any of this have to do with the plot or movie? How does this help level design? It lacks purpos.

When I was a child, playing this game, I literally thought he just killed himself.

-------------------------------------Trees.

Dear God! These trees just border the level.

-------------------------------------Lack of Voice Acting.

Since it's so much fun watching a short dialogue take up 3 minutes.

-------------------------------------Filler Missions

I know, this is stretching it a bit. But the highlighted missions are seriously underdeveloped. They lack purpose, direction, and just don't add to the game.

I'm not claiming Goldeneye is a bad game. It's just Rare didn't spend enough time or effort into it. Perfect Dark on the other hand is perfect. It featured full-fledged voice acting, a great soundtrack, extreme amounts of unique guns, several game modes, and a multiplayer mode that still offers more customizability than any game out there. People are always talking about Goldeneye being one of the greats - but really it was all Perfect Dark. Perfect Dark improved on Goldeneye in virtually every area.

And I only made this thread because Goldeneye is rarely bashed.

Maybe when you were a kid, you couldn't understand that it was the first console FPS done right.

It's nothing nowadays, but back in the day...

I am just joking. I still play the game all the time. But it's just insane how much better Perfect Dark is. Also, Goldeneye just has a lot of things that are easy to pick apart.

EDIT: And I infact played this game within it's few days of release. I did beat it on 00 Agent on every single level. I know how great it was for it's time.

I totally agree. This game is just absolutely horrid. It's almost as if they made the game in 1997 or something!

Goldeneye is a classic.

What you're really saying is that it's dated, which everyone can agree with. What you think you're saying is that it's overrated, which no one will agree with.

think what alot of people are forgetting is that most of the things you see in goldeneye are now standard in most FPS but before goldeneye they were almost unheard of or at least hadn't been done properly or perfected. Heres a few examples they may sound silly now but at the time they were revolutionary.

Body specific shots- before goldeneye if you shot anyone in any part of their body they reacted the same in goldeneye you shoot some on in the hand they hold their hand. this was not seen or done at all in may games at the the time.

Motion capture for character/ ememies- yes this also wasnt done at all in most games (hard to believe now) this is why the enemies animated so relisticly for the time any way.

The number of guns- most FPS had 10 guns to use if you were lucky goldeneye had over 25!

Gadgets/equipment-yip never really used in FPS at the time except for collecting keys if you were lucky same goes for objectives in a FPS most just included shoot everything and reach exit.

there are so many more to mention such as bond changing his cloths for different missions lol it was the little things like that that really made the game stand out from the crowd at the time. Like i said there are so many more see what others you can spot.

Without goldeneye most of the standard things we have in FPS just wouldnt be around today and to a lesser extent halo is the same how many games now only have you hold 2 weapons at a time or have a re-chargable shield or energy?

Goldeneye is a classic and was pretty much the only console fps worth playing for its time(that being before perfect dark, of course).

When you compare it to any other consolefps during its time(pre-perfect dark), nothing even comes close.

It was god to me when it was out but now I can't stand playing it. I'll definately be going back to Halo in 20 years I know that, just as I've gone back to Super Mario. Goldeneye aged badly.

In all honesty though I think Perfect Dark is more overated than Goldeneye.

Any game is playable if you don't whine about reading a couple of letters and when you know the game was made a long time ago.

He's a Super-duper Troll. He got this idea to post this from an earlier topic on hear about: the most respected games of SW. And of course Golden Eye came up repeatedly. So therefore, he couldn't stand that, so he decided to try to flame all of us.

This game was so awesome 10 years ago, and he knows it.
