God of War Collection Vita IGN Review: 6.3/10

As a God of War fan, I really wish I could recommend the latest incarnation of Kratos' epic PS2 adventures. Alas, God of War Collection for the Vita is a weak port of the 2009 PS3 HD remastering, with muddled graphics, flawed audio, and less than fluid gameplay, all of which renders it the least flattering way to embody Sparta's angriest warrior.

I just read it. I have CoO and GoS on vita, they are enjoyable. Just downloadable BC, no adding touch features. I wasn't looking to buy this any how. If it's offered free on plus I'll download it.

Does any God of War game deserve anything higher than a 3/10? They basically have no gameplay and don't have a worthwhile story or style to make up for it.

This and Jak both seem to be inferior because of the porting company not putting effort. The Vita GameFAQs board isn't really happy about this and they're lukewarm about Borderlands 2's port (which I plan on picking up)

Also I quite enjoy Remote Play for this on PS3

The only HD port I've seen that has actually had clear effort put in was Metal Gear Solid HD. Two really good ports.

Although I did enjoy the Silent Hill HD collection. I get there were a ton of corners being cut, but I still liked it because both games are so great.

Sounds like a terrible port. I expected better of Sony, I didn't think they would hand this job off to someone with little care or experience.

if they're just going to port PS3 games they should start with the Ico & SoTC Collection, maybe Okami HD. God of War seemed challenging enough given complaints of how they handled the God of War 1 & 2 collection on PS3. The realtime gameplay resolution was upped, but models weren't, the sound was bland, and the cinematics still looked like they belonged on a PS2, and when jumping between the two the graphic contrast didn't make for smooth transitions. Maybe one day they can give us a true God of War collection... but I'm sure they're sick and tired of that at the moment, we got it on the PS3, now it's on the Vita, and they're rumored to bring Ascension to PS4; might be a while. Even if they could get it right, it might not be worth bringing back given the multiple previous collections, there might be substantial consumer fatigue, doubt, and skepticism.

I picked it up yesterday, and couldn't put it down. Started with GOW 1 and am loving it. Great game so far. Not sure why such hate toward the Vita, but I have enjoyed this one thus far as well as, Unit 13, Uncharterd, Pixel Junk, Killzone, Mortal K., and remote play with PS4 is greatness. But 2 great game for $30 is a great deal.

Does the Vita and PS3 versions share trophies? How about transfer saves?

I don't even know why they bothered with this. A new GoW game on Vita would have been far better.

Blurry, inconsistent frame rate, and awful sounding audio are the biggest issues. It's worth putting up with if you never played the first two God of War games, but you'll find a much better experience on the PS3. I haven't tried playing the PS3 version via remote play, but I wouldn't be surprised if even that were a better experience.

IGN said that the PS3 version comes with crossplay. I bought that awhile ago, is there a way I can redeem the vita version even though I don't wasn't in existance at the time?

Just get one of the many collections that are on Ps3. I'm surprised it took that long to reach Vita.

Ouch.. I have the PS3 God of War Saga version. It's the one that also has the PSP games on it as well. That's pretty much all you need.

I've played all of them. Not a single one has an ounce of compelling gameplay. It's mindless, mashy combat with zero depth, featuring a useless, frustratingly uncontrollable camera, and a blandly angry moron of a protagonist.

Look at all this "gameplay".

David Jaffe has gone on record saying he intentionally designed God of War to essentially have no gameplay, and that if he could go back and redesign the game he'd give it even less gameplay than what's already there.

Maybe it is because I have never played a God of War game, but I easily give this an 8.5 if not higher. I have not been able to put this game down. My Vita is in heavy use these days thanks to GOW. I also bought Killzone about a week before, but have not put it in yet because of GoW. Those who say this game isn't good either hasn't played or this just isn't their type of game.
