But why? This probably rules out the streaming rumor though. They expect a lot more out of VR, though.

Hmm everybody in the business seems to expect a lot from this NX thing. So does that mean it IS Nintendo making a normal console or that it absolutely ISN'T?... ?!

What the heck do they know? I wonder if theyve had a peak yet. Sounds like a good guess though.

Given how they (understandably) barely stock Wii U stuff, surely they know something if they're projecting a huge turnaround like this. Here's hoping..

Hmmm, fair. They've been among the most vocal, harshest critics of the Wii U.

I can see this working, if it's a console-handheld hybrid device.

So in other words, Gamestop will be overstocked on NX consoles and VR headsets. Got it.

Can't be that simple. Especially after they were burned as badly with the Wii U as they were, they would be more careful about keeping inventory for a Nintendo console beyond maybe a week or so's worth.

I think they know something about the console, and they're confident about its ability to sell.

The important thing here is that a console that sells is not necessarily one that appeals to us on this board- the Wii sold, for instance, and I find it to be a pretty terrible system. So this does not confirm the NX will be something you or I will like- all it confirms is that the major retailer of video games worldwide, one who has enough reason to be cautious about Nintendo, feels that the new Nintendo system will in fact sell a lot.

@techhog89: I don't know about that. It really will depend on how many 3rd party developers they can get to make games for it. Nintendo isn't even showing the NX at the E3, so when will we know what games are going to be released with it. I wouldn't bet on the NX out of the gate. Give it a year and see how well it does compared to the Wii U and the XB1 first year launches.

Or further support for the theory that it's a handheld/console hybrid. Despite their issues with the consoles they have made a lot of money off of Nintendo handhelds.

....or it's a console that ONLY plays used games. *plot twist*

Nah, I was pretty baffled by the Wii U ever since its original showing lol. I wanted to have faith in it, but I had no faith in the product that was being shown- which led me to sit out on the Wii U for over a year after it launched.

Sounds good to me! Hopefully Nintendo finally figured it out and made a competitive console. All I really ask is a console that can not only play my Nintendo games, but all the big 3rd party games. I'm not asking for the world here.

Fair enough. Either way stories like this can only be a positive. With the console coming out in just 10 months, Nintendo will have to be in talks with stores like GameStop to re-obtain the shelf space they lost with Wii U.

That figure is based on half of the wii profit. Right next to it they have 2 billion based on 120% of wii u. Basically if it sells 20% better than wii u it will make 2.5 billion.

Neither figure is relevant but clearly the 2.5 billion based on wii u sales is more likely.

Did anybody actually read the chart?

Hey, I've made pretty clear that the audience outside their hardware hardly cares about Nintendo and you know what recently proved that? Miitomo. Over two million downloads and already, even less play with that now.

1. Repeating your baseless delusions doesn't make anything clear.

2. Miitomo is a shitty social app, not a game.

3. Even as a shitty social app, it's massively successful. "By April 2016, Miitomo had a user base of over 10 million users with 300 million conversations between friends and 20 million screenshots taken within the app itself.[29] By May 2016, Miitomo had been downloaded over 5 million times on Google Play since its release.[30]"

Thats cuz people like casual games on a phone not dress up Mii games. If they put Dr. mario or tetris type game it would be better on a smart phone people don't like building Mii's and crap. They like simple fun games.

Nintendo shall be the new Persona.

I don't know whether to pre-bash NX or hype it. My mood changes by the day. It is honestly killing me that I don't know if it will be a gimmicky console or a legit gaming system. It might not look like it sometimes, but I want to love Nintendo so hard. They just don't make it easy.

@techhog89:

I know. My point was that it is based on sales of their previous consoles, and has nothing to do with any inside knowledge of NX or even some kind of deal with nintendo or whatever.

Basically they didnt just pull these figures out of thin air on the basis of thinking the console is gonna be amazing.

I think it definitely will sell a lot better than wii u but how much better i dont know.

Nintendo has their back agsainst the wall so it will be interesting to see if they create a console that can sell significantly better than the WiiU.

No, Miitomo's decline is probably because there isn't a whole lot to do to be honest. I've actually liked it more recently because I have an active friend and it's interesting to learn more about them that way for some reason. Yet, there's very little else to do. The Drop game is just based on luck and loses its charm after a few turns. I know it's a social app, but even there it lacks features essential to its longevity that basic apps like SnapChat or Instagram have (brand power in young circles being one). Nintendo has a brand name, but many "casuals" probably wouldn't recognize Nintendo as a company as they would IPs like the Wii or Mario. It doesn't have anything to do with people disliking Nintendo overall as far as I know. Once the real mobile games come around, there will be a change, hopefully for the good. I do agree though, that a lot of the people on this site demanding Nintendo go 3rd party probably don't care for them overall or just want their platform to monopolize the market. I'd also agree that people insult people's mental capabilities on this site way too often, but I suppose that's just how the game goes. :P

@techhog89: Nothing new here.

Gamestop has "a lot of confidence" and will sing praises when discussing new hardware releases from the big three. Gamestop are going to sell these machines as best they can as retailers. It's their job to ramp up excitement and make money. They had a lot of confidence in the Wii U for example...until they didn't due to the machine floundering. Then they move on to the next big thing.

It's only after machines release they they may talk about under performance.

What are they supposed to say? They can't afford to hurt their business or damage corp. relationships.

Basically, it means nothing and take it all with a grain of salt.

----

4 years ago:

In an interview with GameSpot, GameStop CEO Paul Raines discussed about how impressive the Wii U was among other things. He had a chance to play with it at E3, and left impressed by the console.

"We’re excited about Wii U. We think Wii U is going to be a very significant part of the holiday period. If you played the games at [the Electronic Entertainment Expo], it’s pretty cool. I went upstairs and played Pikmin for like an hour with the tablet and the controller, and it’s pretty cool. I mean, the rendering, the graphics are fantastic. So I think Wii U is exciting; we’re eager to get started on the launch and we’re doing a lot to plan for that."

Add Gamestop to the ever growing list of supporters for Nintendo’s next-gen console (Wii U).

Given how they (understandably) barely stock Wii U stuff, surely they know something if they're projecting a huge turnaround like this. Here's hoping..

Good point.

Actually, it's not a good point if you've paid attention to what Gamestop says before the release of new hardware.

They have no idea how events will fold out and in the meantime like any retailer just want to make $$$.

If the NX succeeds or fails, Gamestop will still be there making money.

Hmmm, fair. They've been among the most vocal, harshest critics of the Wii U.

Yes, after a machine under performs, they can be harsh critics as they have to discuss their bottomline, but before that? They promote the heck out of whatever machine that will get them revenue.

Unlike consumers, and like any retailer, Gamestop's actions, words, and opinions are all set up to make consumers excited which will contribute to Gamestop improving their fiscal year.

The last thing they want is backrooms overstocked with hardware. You have to move these machines when they are white hot, because it's not going to get easier as time marches on.

4. How are you even managing to stay alive with so little mental capacity?

1. How exactly is it baseless if/when you look at the buying habits of the average consumer in the gaming industry today?

2 and 3. Pretty sure that mass amount of downloads for Miitomo doesn't reflect how many people BOTHER with it now. This engadget article mentions how far it has fallen. And Social app or not, does it really matter when Nintendo's name is on the thing? Granted, I'll give you how my math for how many downloads it has was WAY off.

4. Recognizing what's dangerous and harmful? Just because you and many others think I'm an idiot on all things games, doesn't make me one on everything else in real life.

At least we agree on the general attitude of the pro-"Nintendo should be third party" crowd.

@techhog89: Nothing new here.

The difference is that Wii U was the successor to a smash hit while NX... isn't. There may be a reason that they expect 20% more revenue than Wii U at minimum when analysts looking at trends would expect even worse sales to be a high possibility.

Either way, the main point of this thread is that it debunks the streaming rumor.

Yes, the Streaming thing I never believed for a second (for the very reason you cited in your first sentence), but you're right, the thread does serve a purpose in that respect.

@SolidTy: Thanks, I didn't know that. The first link you provided does not have the info anymore, but the second link works fine.

I had the same reaction as Paul Raines when I first played the Wii U; ie. the graphics are fantastic! I hope Nintendo has a solid plan to address the unceasing attacks on their console on the Power Issue. It doesn't matter if Nintendo has the most fantastic looking games with less lag. When the critics start describing Nintendo's hardware as underpowered, the masses are not going to care if the games look and play better. They are going to go for the "more powerful" consoles.
