Gamespot Greatest Villain of all time!

Sorry if this is old, but I just noticed GS was doing this, anyway who did you guys vote? I picked diablo but it seems alot of people like Darth Vader and Psycho Mantis (no surprise with this one :P) and diablo is currently 3rd.

I voted for Lavos because he was the only villain I'd seen in my games from that list.

It's a pretty terrible list, to be honest. Vader and Joker (and to a lesser degree, Diablo) shouldn't even be in the competition since they're not really gaming characters, there are some simply awful villains in there (RAAM, Zakhaev, The Origami Killer), and there were some pretty brutal snubs as well (Saren, most of the baddies from Deus Ex, arguably the G-Man).

Not that any of it matters: the legions of Star Wars fans and users from You Know Where pretty much guarantee something like a Vader-Carmen Sandiego final.

I was surprised on how many of those I didn't recognize. Anyway, I went with Vergil if we're counting his role in Devil May Cry 1 as Nelo Angelo as well as his role on Devil May Cry 3. Some of my all time favorite boss battles

list was terrible, my personal choice would be Kane from the C&C games.

I went with Vergil. No matter who wins, he's the true winner, to me. Well... him and Revolver Ocelot. Not sure who I prefer overall.

Well, seeing that kefka already made the cut, I voted for lavos. I could had voted for psycho mantis, but I think we all knew he would make the cut anywats.

I believe that GameSpot staff have a requirement that only registered users can vote. This way, non-members will not influence voting in a way they did in the Greatest Hero contest.

People voted for G F because the Half life fanboys blindly voted for him because they love Half-life, and wanted a Half-life character to win.

Saying Gordan Freeman is the best video game character, is like saying a blank stack of papers is the best book ever.

Though if the same fanboys win, I could very well stomach Glados. She has good(well evil)characteristic elements.

Domino is definitely the best villain on the first list.

The best villains on the full list are Kerrigan, Glados, and Le Chuck. (and before all the fanboys go screaming Sephiroth I have to say that Kefka is much cooler)

Freeman won because the people on the site that shall not be named started a campaign to get him to win, and they tend to be pretty good at influencing online polls.

Hell, Gordon Freeman isn't even a proper character, he is a narrative device by design he won out of popularity.

Why people are still wound up over a popularity contest is beyond me; it's a simple fact that popularity does not automatically equate to best, and it's also very well known there were better characters who didn't win.

Because Manny is never going to be as popular as Mario. Simple.
