Games you've played lately: Which ones disappoint or exceed your expectations?

Which ones have disappointed or exceeded your expectations over the past six months or so?

For me the disappiontments are: No More Heroes, Devil May Cry 4, Assassins Creed, Blue Dragon, Metal of Honor Heroes 2, Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings, Mass Effect.

My pleasant surprises are: Halo 3, The Orange Box, Super Mario Galaxy, Call of Duty 4, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, Eternal Sonata, Zelda Phantom Hourglass, Days of Ruin, Bioshock, Metroid Prime 3 Corruption.

Look at sig. I love this about XBL and their community developer program.

i haven't been dissappointed by a game i bought in.....I dont't think ever. :D

i just got No More Heroes and DMC4, both of which are awesome, and i finally got XBL gold, so im playing halo 3 again.

The Witcher is great as expected, still playing it.

PES 2008 was a slight dissapointment, it hasn't evolved a bit despite its name.

Psychonauts is a positive surprise, chances of me bying a game like that are small, but since it was free on GameTap I downloaded it and have enjoyed it a lot.

RACE 07, pretty much what I expected, a good arcade racing sim, but unfortunately not always enough people online.

I recently beat Killer7.A lot better (and stranger) than I expected.And the ending...:|VGobbsesser

Disappointments:

Exceeds expectations:
- Crysis
- Supreme Commander (and the Forged Alliance expansion pack)
- Super Mario Galaxy

Exceeded: Stalker. One of the best games I've played in a long time.

Dissapointed: The Witcher. The game barely runs on Vista despite its Games for Windows tag, the various fetch quests (your main source of income) are unbelievably annoying, the voice acting and translations are laughable and the gratuitous sex makes the game feel like it was made by some 17-year-old D&D fanatics whose closest experience to a meaningful releationship is oggling Seven of Nine on Star Trek: Voyager re-runs. Which is too bad, because it has a great setting, unique gameplay elements and true "lesser of two evils" moral decisions.

I'm Playing:

The Witcher: Great. A little rough around the edges but ultimately satisfying

DMC 4 (PS3): Better than expected, I'm really liking it so far even if it plays like a game from last gen

Burnout Paradise: I love Burnout and I love this game. Easily the best online racer on the consoles imo. (unseating Forza 2 btw)

Mass Effect:I have the feeling this will always find it's way in my 360 (and PC)

Recent Disappointments

Assassin's Creed- Beautiful, boring, repetitive.

Stranglehold: dumb, Dumb, Dumb game design. Except for the shantytown level.

Motorstorm: Wasn't feeling it. Lack of variety = not fun.

Portal

Call of duty 4. I picked it up cause all my friends had it but i was not really thinking it would be good. MP turned out to be better than halo 3.

HellGate London. Was supposed to be Diablo but in 3D turned out to be garbage in 3D. ill have to wait for the Real Next Diablo game i guess.

Disapointments:Guitar Hero 3

Excced expectations:Ocarina of Time(the 11th playthrough still kicks ass), Medal of Honor Heroes 2(i thought it would completely suck),Super Mario Galaxy(i expected it to be great, but not THIS great)

Disappointed:

Uncharted, Manhunt 2, Eternal Sonata,

I was very disappointed with Need For Speed: Pro Street, Assassins Creed, Unreal Tournament and Medal Of Honor: Airborne.. VERY disappointed with Unreal Tournament actually...

I was very pleasantly surprised by Burnout Paradise, Ratchet And Clank Future, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Guitar Hero III, and Wipout Pure (PSP) all of which i would grade above a 9 out of 10.

I was also pleased with the Eye Of Judgment which i thought might be pretty lame but its actually a fun game and the Playstation Eye Camera is great.

Mass Effect definitely exceeded my expectations, I thought it was going to be good but it ended up being great.

A lot of my friends were hyping Call of Duty 4 so I bought it and while playing it wasn't too impressed, until the All Ghillied Up mission then my opinion did a full 180 and the game went to one of the best in my library period. The multiplayer was better than I could have ever imagined, so it definitely exceeded my expectations from first impression.

Uncharted definitely exceeded my expectations on the visual's front. My jaw dropped at how beautiful and lush the surroundings were. The screenshots and videos online don't do the game justice when playing on an HDTV.

Assassins Creed......total disappointment. I could rant on about it but all I'm going to ask is how the hell did ME get an 8.5 and AC get a 9.0? Injustice!!

Halo 3...slight disappointment, I love the multiplayer but the single player campaign felt pretty generic and the storyline was weak.

Disappointments:

Medal of Honor: Heroes 2. Excellent controls can't make up for a boring single player campaign, mediocre online play, terrible character models, and awful AI.

Resident Evi: Umbrella Chronicles. Step 1: Shoot zombies. Step 2: Repeat Step 1.

Battalion Wars II. There's almost no strategy at all in this game. Just tell your units to attack the guys and the will. Then you shoot, and shot, and shoot... When you aren't shooting, you're doing something boring.

Better than expected:

Link's Crossbow Training. No, it's not an AA title, but it is a lot more fun than I expected. I also really liked the Wii Zapper.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance was originally my favorite game of all time two years ago. I thought that maybe it was just because I was younger at the time, and that this game wasn't going to be that great... I was wrong. It's my second favorite game of all time, right next to Super Mario Galaxy.

No More Heroes. The combat was excellent, and addictive. This is definitely the best third party title for the Wii.

Disappointed :

Halo 3 - (played at my cousin's house)

1. good game, but somewhat disapointing, so far. I haven't beaten it yet (stopped at Finding Cortana). DOESN'T deserve a 9.5 here. More like a 9.0.
2. Single Player = good, but sloppy AI & too short, lacked depth and =/= Halo 1's depth and good feel of a combat single player FPS.
3. Graphics = gorgeous but should be better considering 360's powerful hardware. And there was very few graphical pop ups (in game & cinematics). Disappointing to see that, knowing those glitches plagued Halo 2 alot. No excuse for 360 hardware.
4. Multiplayer = haven't touched it yet.
5. Not worth $59.99. More like $39.99.

CoD4 exceeded my expectations, halo 2 was alright but i rushed through it, halo 3 owned, assassins creed was great, mass effect is fun but i spend hours in game doing nothing lol.

You are allowed to make copies for "back-up" purposes. I do not distribute the games to anyone, which would be the illegal thing to do. They are for personal use only on my PC or PSP. And by the way, I live in Europe so US laws don't apply to me. As far as I can tell, everything i'm doing is legal.

But is it from your cartridge or did you download it? If you did download it it's illegal. And still, better not talk about that stuff here.EuroMafia

Puzzle Quest is the most surprisingly good game I've bought recently.

Guitar Hero 3 disappoints me, because it doesn't let me skip the songs I hate. Plus, I suck at it, and still haven't completed Hard mode. It does have the world's greatest ever downloadable content though (Journey, Boston AND Foreigner!).

Games I've played the last 3 months:

Halo 3 (I love the MP :P)

Assassins Creed (worst game I've played so far this gen)

CoD4 (short SP and broken MP was a big downfall)

Orange Box (best $60 ever spent)

DMC4 (easily one of my fav games so far this gen)

AW: DoR (addictive game)

Beowulf (decent game for $20, wouldn't spend $60 on it though)

Oblivion goty edition (defiantly worth the $60 unlike the stand alone oblivion last year)

NG sigma (decent game, story coulda been better)

Bleach: the blade of fate (best hand held fighter)

Uncharted (awesome game, first game I've actually enjoyed for my ps3, to bad most ps3 owners havent tried it :()

Disappoint: DMC4, Folklore, Burnout Paradise, Turok, UTIII, Warhawk

Exceed: Crysis, Super Mario Galaxy, No More Heroes, Assassin's Creed, Sins of a Solar Empire, Zack & Wiki, Lost Odyssey, Uncharted, The Witcher

Most recent dissapointment is No More Heroes, its just 'eh', i beat the first boss like a week and a half ago and havent played it since, it was kinda boring. Also its a little TOO in depth for me, with the different amount of moves, and a couple i cant get to work so i get frustrated and just dont play it. Im gonna give it another chance obviously cuz i bought it but as of now i barely play it.

I bought Folklore the same day as NMH too, i liked the demo a lot and the game is just as good.

Mario Galaxy is kind of a dissapointment, it holds nothing to the torch of Mario 64. I have like 60 something stars in Galaxy I havent beaten the game yet because im trying to get all of the stars first. Galaxy is VERY VERY creative in its levels, but the levels are like ...they dont make me want to re-play them again over and over. Mario 64 was sooooo much better. I get annoyed when i have like 5-6 stars in a galaxy or whatever, including the comet ones and I still dont get a crown im like -_-. Basically now that i've played through 99% of the galaxies I dont really have the urge to continue, it doesnt pull me in like Mario 64 did.

I got DDR Universe 2 for Christmas and I have been pleasantly surprised by it. Never played one before.

I am playing Assassins Creed and I am starting to understand the complaints but I think the world and story are strong enough to keep me going. It's going to be a real grind getting 100% on this game though.

Lost odessey load times, it reminds me of the ps1 era. but besides that its pretty ok game. ghoulsandghost

Games ive played recently: Rock Band, Mass Effect, Neverwinter Nights 2, Super Mario Galaxy, Assassins Creed

Rock Band exceeded my expectations, I got it expecting it to be about Guitar Hero level of fun, with the drums being a cool new addition to try to master, but it was far more than that, its one of the most fun game experiences Ive had in a long time. Band World Tour is just so much fun, especially when you have all four parts there, playing online with friends is awesome, the setlist is outstanding, theres maybe 3 songs I dont like, and it has tons of awesome downloadable content.

Mass Effect met my expectations, which is saying a lot since Bioware is may favorite dev and KOTOR is my favorite game of all time

Neverwinter Nights 2 is better than I expected, it has its issues, but its a fun roleplaying experiences with a great story

Super Mario Galaxy was a bit of a disappointment. Its well designed and a great game, but imo its not the pinnacle of platforming many make it out to be. It has a few issues, but those arent the main disappointment, its just isnt as much fun as I expected and theres definetely platformers that I would consider maybe not better games as far as production goes, but definetely more fun

Assassins Creed was great, it meet my expectations. It was a little repetitive with the information gathering, but other than that I thought the game was really good game.

Halo 3. Exceed.

Mass Effect. Exceed

Team Fortress 2. Exceed

Portal. Exceed

Half Life Series. Exceed

STALKER. Exceed.

I've only been disappointed with COD4 this whole gen TBH.

But is it from your cartridge or did you download it? If you did download it it's illegal. And still, better not talk about that stuff here.
