Unfortunately Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata did not provide a release date for the game today at the Active Time Report from Gamescom, but just a few hours before I had a chat with him, and he provided some quite detailed information about the status of the game, explaining that the game’s development is perfectly on track.

Tabata-san explained that not only the release date has been finalized, but also when that announcement will be done is pretty much decided already. Square Enix has also already determined the timing in which all the important news will be released.

That said, the game is about 65% complete now, but more important that the number is the fact that all the plans are now solidly in place both for development and marketing. Everything is “proceeding very well” and development is on target. According to Tabata-san the game is “very much where it’s supposed to be right now.”

SOURCE

I refuse to believe this.

Saying it is 65% complete is the equivalent of when an athlete uses a percentage to explain how healthy they feel. There is a degree of optimism to it with a whole side of bullshit to go along. That recent trailer, a trailer, with the dude walking had framerate dips.

Those 2 demos we got, I won't be surprised if this is a GT5 Prologue scenario.

The company is run by a bunch of fucking clowns. It's as simple as that.

At this rate their beloved FF7 remake is probably no more than vaporware on arrival.

No. The game they are working on now is a separate entity from Final Fantasy Versus XIII and didn't start development until 2013.

That doesn't excuse for FF XV to take so damn long to make, it's been over 8 years of development! Do you honestly think Square Enix is looking at Sony's lineup to get the right date for their sale of XV? Chances are, the longer they wait, the hype starts to drop and newer games do something new while FFXV gets left behind against the competition.

From everything that I've been gathering from KH3, I wouldn't be surprised to see it in 2016... It seems to be rolling now ever since they switched engines. I used to think FF15 would release way earlier than KH3... Now I'm not so sure lol...

Especially since KH3's release date is already decided.

Considering they changed the engine not that long I'd say that's some pretty great progress. That however does not excuse the past 6-7 years (out of a total of 9, not 8) of pure idiocy on their part.

SE's greatest mistake was deciding to make it's own engine. Changing to UE4 seems to be putting them back on track (Kingdom Hearts 3 is speculated to be far more in an advanced than what we've been told, some rumours pointing to a release just a few months after this game).

I find it funny this game had any hype when people didn't know shit about it, just that it (at the time) was a Sony exclusive, guess that's all they cared to know. Now that it's a multiplat it'll get judged on its merits like FFXIII.

Eh, like I mentioned above, the change to UE4 will likely make SE have far more normal cycles; it's showing with KH3 and even FF15 (remember, the change for both wasn't that long ago). Once KH3 and FF15 are done with (realistically they should be done within 2 years) their staff will help out with FF7R (assuming they don't already have a large team working on it). So I doubt it's gonna be another 9+ years for 1 single game.

That said, they should have made this decision quite some time ago :P They've wasted time, money and resources because of dumb reasons + made an extra expensive engine for basically nothing.

Plus the switched games mid stream. Originally they were going to create Versus.

@finalstar2007: we're saying this since 2012. With each year its "omfg 2013 will be amazing", "2014 will be one of the best years ever", "2015 looks to be the best year in gaming history" THEN 70% of those titles are being delayed and you're left with CoD, Ass Creed, that year's BF spinoff and 1-3 good/great games.

What a joke. If it takes this goddamn long for 15, FF7 remake may not come until 2026. Cows be jerking off to FF7 remake at E3 like its coming in this lifetime.

No. The game they are working on now is a separate entity from Final Fantasy Versus XIII and didn't start development until 2013.

The devs were probably just standing around with their thumbs up their asses for 8 years before they finally decided to start working on the game so they decided to change the name as a cover up for slacking all those years.

So many damn Final Fantasy XV threads, don't know which one to post this in.

Final Fantasy 15 Release Date Confirmed for 2016

Final Fantasy XV Director, Hajime Tabata, has confirmed to GameSpot that fans can expect to play the game before 2017, indicating the game will be released in 2016.

Asked about when Square Enix release plans to reveal the release date, Tabata replied: "At the very least, I can tell you that it isn't going to be released this year. I think we'll be able to tell you when we're making the announcement around PAX Prime, at the end of this month."

Pressed on how Tabata and his team plan to reassure fans struggling to remain excited after such a long development process, especially given the lackluster announcements coming from Gamescom, Tabata admitted the showing may have left fans wanting, and offered his sympathy.

"I understand why people are feeling that way after coming to Cologne and speaking to a lot of the media," he said. "We really do get the feeling that people are a bit worried. Certainly, one thing I would like to say to them to reassure them, is that we've set down the release date, we know when it is, and we've got a complete road map lined up, right up to launch, and we're proceeding along that as planned."

Then, Tabata dropped the best indication of the Final Fantasy XV release date yet: "We can certainly say to people: it's not going to be 2017. It's going to be before that."

Before Gamescom 2015, Square Enix teased an upcoming reveal which, given that Final Fantasy XV was not at E3, led many to speculate a release date would be officially revealed.

Peter Brown, Gamespot - SOURCE

As long as they don't deviate from that road map, it looks like we can expect the game next year.

They say they have a roadmap. Who knows if that map accounts for detours and blown tires and the like. I'll remain skeptical.

It was announced in 2006 as a spinoff until SE realized they develop games too slowly.

Which means most of that work was scrapped and they started over. Hence my comment.
