Not surprising to see Super Mario Maker 2 up at the top, the game is fantastic and I’m really enjoying it myself. Nintendo is killing it with the Switch and games for it and that won’t be letting up anytime soon with a whole slate of great software in the pipeline.

Or maybe, Nintendo titles appeal more to the mainstream audience and the Japanese prefer playing games on the go as they're more social than people in the west? Also, 3rd party games in Japan are selling fine. You're salty because Nintendo dominates it's home country.

Mario Maker 2 is going to have legs for a long time and the Mario Maker did have huge legs from both on Wii U and 3DS releases.

I would expect a similar performance. Except even longer legs because Switch will remain popular for several years whereas Wii U was basically dead after Mario Maker extended life support briefly.

You do know that Japan is only a population of 127 million right? What kind of numbers are you expecting to see here? Console gaming in Japan isn't dead and PS4 has been out longer so were all waiting for PS5 to shake things up.

@sakaixx: Do you have any stats that back up this claim of yours that there’s all these Switch owners who are begging for ports of third party games and then aren’t buying them? You seem to try to force this narrative yet I never see you bring anything of substance to back it up with.

@Archangel3371: i did created a thread for this. Biggest selling 3rd party game on switch is a collab, Mario x Rabbit sold around 2m last reported. Out of 21 games that reached million milestone, only 3 were 3rd party title. Or 4, just in case just dance is somehow a million seller as well. 2million for highest 3rd party, probably due to mario branding too.

Btw now there is total 23 games that reached million seller status on switch. My guess is nsane trilogy and just dance joined the group. That is poor

It is the third largest economy behind China and the United States and why ahead of any major European country such as Germany which I believe is the fourth largest.

Im salty cause I care for 3rd party studios situation in japan. Week in and week out most 3rd party games never hold on to that chart for more than 4 weeks. at best those 3rd party games will open at around 150k and reach 250k then fall off to obscurity. I don't care about Nintendo stuff, they are catered to casuals, everyone can play Mario so I understood why its selling. Even old ports sell if it has Mario name much to my dismay.

Unfortunately even though Sony and PS4 lack of 1st party titles effort in japan meant 3rd Party has more chances, the console itself is not exactly selling amazingly in japan.

@sakaixx: Here's the problem with you. You're the one begging people to buy 3rd party games over 1st party titles. Secondly, Nintendo's first party has more appeal to 3rd party games. Last, if a 3rd party wants to sell well for the Switch, then they better put effort on making a quality port than just half-assing it. Understandably, the Switch is weak compared to the competition, but maybe if they can at least run their games in 30 fps, we wouldn't have to complain.

@FireEmblem_Man: of course, never deny nintendo attractions, they make casual game for all thats why the appeal is big. The thing is about japanese 3rd party is, the market in japan is moving to mobile and small and mid tier game dev cannot commit to big budget AAA titles on anything unless it appeals to west due to those japanese centric game will almost never get over 500k sales in their first year. The international market threats these japanese games as niche while japan dont buy them enough.

Even on ps4, sekiro barely pass 160k opening in japan but helped by great international reactions. Same story with dmcv, japan game industry just cannot sustain them anymore.

Tldr, Japan is dead.

How many of them are there and how many of them haven’t purchased the ports of the games that they have supposedly asked for? Simply showing numbers for the overall sales isn’t enough to prove your claim of “port beggars” not purchasing third party games. You need correlating numbers to prove that point.

You’ve made that claim a number of times in different threads including this one so it’s perfectly fine to address it here. If you don’t have those correlating numbers then just say so, admit that you’re just talking out of your ass and be done with it.

No shit small and mid tier devs can't commit to big budget AAA titles, because it would destroy their business for any attempts, unless they're Square Enix, Capcom, or Bandai/Namco in which they can throw money to big budget titles.

Switch 1st party games makes up for about 80% -85% of all software sales. People buy switch for 1st party while 3rd party battle for scraps. Glad indies selling 100k is considered a success cause well, its not a lot.
