Epic moments in gaming

This was the first thing that came to mind for me. Right when you’re about to beat MGS, you have no idea what’s about to happen. Then all of a sudden a vehicle chase happens! Experiencing this for the first time was incredible. This was when we used to get real surprises. What about you, SW? What comes to mind when you think of Epic moment in gaming?

US video game crash of '83, or so I've read. Not sure anyone else noticed, to tell the truth.

Getting your name on the top of a leaderboard. Going back a year later and your name is still atop the leaderboard.

Now that's truly epic.

What game?

A time when Master Chief reigned supreme in the gaming universe and now he is just some crack head laying in some alley somewhere

Two I can think of right away:

• Valheim - setting sail in a proper karve or longship for the first time
• Outer Wilds - there are plenty, no spoilers for those who haven't played. go play it.

Yea I remember when Halo was big, now it’s a AA franchise at best.

When Xbox releases their first good GP game. Hasn't happened yet, we all been waiting for a long time, but when it happens, it will be a moment to remember. Starfield better deliver or we'll be waiting years for a second chance of it happening.

The first time you step out of the bunker in Fallout 3

The department store level in Condemned: Criminal Origins. The whole level is awesome. I was thinking that the mannequins were going to come alive. It was terrifying. Normally I don't play horror games, but I liked Condemned.

This is literally how I played Battlefield 1: no HUD, full immersion in my backyard gaming to the limit.

Good news: I ordered some component cables for my Gamecube today so I'll be playing MGS: The Twin Snakes soon and right before MGS 2 re-launches on PC & modern consoles. w00t

@SolidGame_basic: There's a few, NFS Shift 2, Hot Wheels Beat that, Forza Horizon 3, 4, 5, a rally game, Cricket game, and probably a few others I'm forgetting. And some of the games top timed/scores would be gone by now.

Seeing the world of Oblivion after the tutorial, the intro to Metal Gear Sons of Liberty . GTA 3

Yakuza 0: the game. Chapter 10 is my favorite when Kiryu, Oda, and Tachibana are escaping Tojo headquarters and you have to beat up tons of guys on the way out. The combo heat moves were so hype too.

Yakuza 5 also had this:

Co-op games before online play was really a thing. Think Contra 3, Halo, Goldeneye

When I first saw Super Mario 64 at Toys R Us. It really changed everything for me.

1. Metal Gear Solid 4 - Snake vs Liquid Ocelot

2. Metal Gear Solid 4 - microwave scene

those two head and shoulders above the rest.

some other epic moments in random order:

• FF16 Clive vs Titan / Typhon / Bahamut / Odin, pretty much every.single. main boss...
• TLOU: Escaping the hospital with Ellie
• FF7: Cloud vs Sephiroth
• Slave Knight Gael boss fight in DS3
• Metal Gear Solid 2 opening scene, landing on the tanker
• God of War Ragnarok: Kratos vs Thor

these threads should always come with a caveat of you cant say leaving the oblivion sewers or leaving vault 101 in fallout 3. too easy.

going off recent games the storm king intro and boss fight in demons remake comes to mind.

visually it's stunning but the audio is phenomenal too. the bass in the storm king's roar or laugh whatever it is, is incredible, same with the music and weather effects. if gamespot weren't so stingy on their max upload file size i'd have made a bigger / longer gif to do it more justice

One that springs to mind is the end of red dead 1 nothing I've played comes close to that feeling.

There's abit in MDK where you pretend to be a service robot.

It's 40 seconds long, the only part of the game. And is nothing but a gag. It's quite brilliant, better than anything Naughty Dog has ever done.

Shame that people are picking cinematic as "epic" moments, hasn't anyone created their own epic moments in gaming?

When he repeatedly shoots the lady in the head and says "I am now the biggest boss" actually started to tear up.

We can play some Payday 3 or Helldivers 2 if you're up for some team based shooting ;)
