The more and more I see of this the less and less unique it begins to become, which is extremely damning in my eyes as I was expecting something truly unique.
Honestly, and I know they're both good game franchises, this just looks like Rise of the Tomb Raider mixed with Far Cry Primal with robots playing a part, nothing more.
I will like and enjoy it no doubt as I like both of those franchises, but this is not looking to be the game it's been hyped up to be.
It's simply more of the same, and while this is not inherently bad, it's not inherently great either.
@kvally:
Yep, more & more this looks like a been there done that a dozen times already, perhaps even a backers dozen. :P

I feel the same way. Honestly the setting speaks to me very much, and I'm always down for a good 'against all odds' setting.
But the gameplay itself... I really hope it can set itself apart from all the dozens of open world games out there that offer tedious sidequest as some kind of filler or progression.

You know, I have to agree. I'm still hyped for the setting & story of this game, but the more I see the actual gameplay videos of it, ..it does look a bit "grindy"/"been their done that". I can't really put my finger on it. It's a curse most open-world games have been suffering from this gen.
All in all, I'm still excited to see how the final product fares. I won't be purchasing at launch anyway. I have a feeling Mass Effect 4 will suffer the same fate.
@remiks00: I agree, but I think what could save mass effect is the return to the ideas of the original game, which to me was the best and most ambitious mass effect. I feel like the open galaxy space aesthetic could yield some really great moments between space travel and land...eaoecialky if they are able to achieve a presentation/qyest/character flow like the Witcher was able to.
Still... Part of me is a little worried too.

No doubt bro, I totally agree. If they can achieve Witcher's "Open-world" formula, combined with what made us love Mass Effect in the first place, it would be incredible.
@sts106mat: lol.. That's what I'm wondering. I just played through rise of the tomb raider.. Great game, but not special by any stretch. Solid. I'm curious what I'm missing here that would make someone call it a GOTY contender?
Of course I suppose someone may call rise of the tomb raider a GOTY contender too, but maybe not really.
@sts106mat: mass effect and red dead in the same year is crazy. I'm rooting for horizon. It's new ip and I honestly believe this industry is in desperate need of new places and ideas. Im just not sure in the end the game is going to be a standout rather than an adequate copycat of ideas I'm already growing tired of.
Here's the review of the full game. Enjoy.
I think you meant this:
i dont. primal is below horizon level

But you love cookie cutting Halo, Gears, and Forza. You are hilarious.

Hey, there will be the people that just want Halo, Gears and Forza, just like there are people who just want Uncharted, Killzone and Gran Turismo. Don't hate, appreciate.

Not my point, he is just doing his usual nyadc. Nothing more or less.

I never played Primal. Do you think FC4 is better than Primal?
Both are crap unless you're into pointless run n gun games where you climb (or scan with your owl aka UAV) shit to unveil more shit.

Did you enjoy any of the FarCry games? My favorite was the first one, but not or the campaign. The online was super fun with all the custom maps that people made.

The first one was alright. The third one was playable. The rest are poopoo.

FC2 sucked major ass. I really enjoyed FC3. I bought FC4, but only played about an hour of it :(
I support them on Patreon but take everything they say about PS exclusives with some caution. They are a bit overentusiastic.

A bit you say? lol
To people that say this is more of the same well what is it that you want? Motion controls? You guys want to play as a fruit in an alternate reality where fruits rule the universe? A toilet paper simulator?
What happened to a game having good smooth controls pretty graphics cool setting weapon crafting weird story lines etc
That's what I look forward to in games maybe the Switch will be a better console for gamers who say they are tired of these games. Just saying
@NathanDrakeSwag: just curious... What makes you say that?
It says PS4 exclusive on the box?
Pretty much, no other reason why anyone would say it's an early GOTY contender when you haven't played it and seen very little of the game LOL.
That fanboy logic.

Just thank the gaming gods that both games will not be released at the same time. You know the industry is known for that nonsense.
Hoping this doesn't represent the whole game as far as lipsync, voice acting, character animations go, it is most likely a side quest...
Wow, looking much better than expected. Wasn't expecting that amount of depth or open world-ness. Very good.
Someone needs to make a thread about this game being the best looking open world game on consoles. Nothing comes close. GG's engine really is something.
Looks pretty good, and to have more depth than I expected. All I'm worried about at this point is fetch quests - what will the quality of the quests be? Will I have to effortfully avoid fetch-quests like in DA:I? It looks a bit TW3/Skyrimmy here - maybe a bit more of an organic and believable grind than the slog DA:I encourages, but this is still my reservation

@m3dude1@gpuking and what was the 3rd hivemind?

no idea. the only one that mattered is gpuking lol.
Nice environments, graphics, movement looks fluid. Don't see much innovation beyond that. If you like Far Cry, you'll probably like this.

to be honest, yes, me too, but for another reason.
It seems like the story isnt gonna be very interesting, which is a shame.
And 4 years ago we go to see very early concept art for this game (all we knew at the time was that GG was making a new IP, we had no clue what type of game) and I remember seeing clans like that were better looking than what we see now in the game. From those concept art we saw more futuristic looking characters as opposed to the cavemen tribal indigenous like character types now. I remember seeing a samurai clan with futuristic armor and sniper rifles (they resemble Destiny characters). So it seems like the had planned to have guns in the game. Now it seems like they went on a more tribal hunter gatherer approach.
So because I already had ideas in my mind for years about this game before it was even announced, and because it seems the story gonna be kinda weak, im a bit less hyped. But still hyped cuz gameplay is cool
