Oh boy… do you have hope for the Battlefield franchise at this point, SW? The last game felt like a poor attempt at live service so this has me even more concerned Lol.

Never forget.

Extra hilarious for the fact that these lines were coming from battle hardened WW2 german soldiers.

Yup, if it were legal they'd probably lock us up Matrix style and use us as farms to extract organs from.

But case in point, some (smarter) companies seem hesistant to call something a live service:

https://www.dsogaming.com/articles/rocksteady-in-damage-control-can-anything-save-its-gaas-game/

Oh I see now, the trend has become popular amongst devil...vampi... ceo's as they have no problem using it anymore:

Rather than just launching a one-and-done console game, how do we develop a game around, for example, a Hogwarts Legacy or Harry Potter, that is a live-service where people can live and work and build and play in that world in an ongoing basis?

Which is the final thing WB said about it.

Why do these idiots think statements like these excite us? Oh yeah, it's a statement not for us, it's for their shareholders.

I do still have fun with some online games. Helldivers is genuinly good and is not corrupted by shady business practices.

Furthermore it has a skin shop and general style that sticks to a certain theme.

I'm not sure what style this is supposed to be?

Too many games wanna be fortnite. Have santa and nicki minaj and grim reaper and dracula all running around the same map supposedly all belonging to the same space and time?

I don't get it.

If EA learned any "valuable lessons" this shit wouldn't be happening right you guys? EA learned two things, Jack & shit, and Jack just left town! Another thing EA learned a "valuable lesson" is how to monetize Battlefield better, not make it more fun😭

Holy shit hearing tremendous LIVE SERVICE couldn't get me more flaccid. When i hear this, i think of the game ascending into what Call of Duty has been for over 10 years, which is the game itself is nothing else but marketing for their microtransaction store, so in other words, you're paying $70 for an mtx store.

I don't know what y'all are so upset about. The problem with the live-service elements of the last game was that they weren't tremendous. Next time, they will be.

Get hype.

You know I start every argument, debate, and thought from the perspective of a gamer/consumer and of late I've realized that these types of calls aren't made with us in mind by people like us and I just sort of resign myself to...whatever.

Thank god for independent and small-scale studios. Battlebit Remastered, Squad, ArmA, and many many more are there and around the corner.

With that said, I just have to ask: wasn't BF2042 a live-service game, or at the very least a very large step in that direction--what with the battlepacks and seasons and such--and that did poorly? Have they learned NOTHING!?

Better yet, have we learned nothing? Stop giving them money people! Or FFS stop pre-ordering at least.

I believe the logic is:

1. Live-service/GaaS can make a lot of money

2. CEO says "We are making a live-service game" followed by "It's very good", sometimes with a token "and I've played it, too!" to win over a few actual gamers.

3. Potential investors see key phrases, such as live-service, and then research it; they look at the big examples (Destiny, World of Warcraft, etc) and think "wow!" then they look at how gaming makes more revenue than film, tv, and streaming combined and think "double wow!"

4. Potential investors become actual investors, value of company goes up, publisher got what thye want now it's just a matter of cutting production costs while simultaneously getting as many pre-orders as possible.

@mrbojangles25: I feel like we've been through this before, which makes it that much more frustrating, but why would anyone preorder? With the countless flops and broken launches gamers have endured, what will it take to stop fools from supporting this crap?! Reviews aren't guaranteed to line up with your personal tastes (I didn't like gow2018 or RDR2, despite the universal praise), but to not wait for some sense of the stability of the game (especially with mp games) is insane to me.

This battered housewife mentality has got to stop.

Only chance I'll even consider the game is if it's a direct sequel to 4, a remake of 4, or as good as BC, 4, or Hardline. If it is ANYTHING like 1,5, or 2042... it will definitely be a hard pass.

I wouldn't mind if it's contained to this one game that I'm actively avoiding.

But the aids is spreading to COD and Battlefield and...

Were they having unprotected sex? Well I know the CEOs at the top love their orgies so maybe.

@R4gn4r0k: The mixing of properties disgusts me too. Not only is it painful to see some of my favorite things dipped in sh!t, but having one homogeneous lame ass world that smoothes the edges off everything sucks as well. I much prefer having many different worlds, with their own unique feel.

As a fan of the series (not so much of their latest entry) this is a “wtf” moment for me especially after 2042. Although I didn’t think that BFV was a bad game personally, it was definitely shunned by the community and 2042 didn’t do any better (by most accounts it did worse) thus is the absolute thing you DON’T want to say about your next installment of the franchise. If anything the best thing EA can do right now when speaking on the matter of the next BF is to be SILENT!

EA's plan for the next Battlefield game to be a "tremendous live service" suggests ongoing work opportunities for 3D artists, a need for flexible asset creation, an emphasis on quality and consistency, increased community engagement, and a focus on long-term vision for the game's evolution.

2042 was one of the lowest quality titles I've ever played. The animations and the constant falling through the floor was pitiful. It felt like a game from a small, up and coming, indie company. Not a company trying to compete with COD.
