I am talking about the combat during the PSX era, even FF is getting faster combat in each new title. What do you think?

[QUOTE="NAPK1NS"]Nope. Never. Gone. None are even, like, in production or anything. ice144Was that really necessary? Anyways, they're still out there, but I have a feeling their popularity will never rise as high as it used to be.Well, I mean, you guys all ready made all the good points. Not gonna' sit here and be redundant, am I right?
The PC still gets a fair share.tagyhagsome good suggestions? i've actually been in the mood lately for an old school style rpg, with decent graphics.
Actually there are more around than you might think, I'm just playing Atelier Rorona ATM ^^ Anyway, they might never be as popular as they were again :/
And for the right reasons. As for now, these games (but not the Japanese variant of them) could only thrive on PC. Not on consoles EVER again.Actually there are more around than you might think, I'm just playing Atelier Rorona ATM ^^ Anyway, they might never be as popular as they were again :/

Look out for Age of Decadence, Dead State and Jagged Alliance 3 in the future. Right now you can try King's Bounty, Ultima V: Lazarus (requires Dungeon Seige) and Prelude to Darkness amongst others. Despite the lack of discussion around these parts (not a very PC oriented crowd), there's many great cRPG's around thanks to the indie and modding scene.
I hope not. JRPGs ruind that system for me. Every JRPG since the genre's creation has been a prettier clone of Ultima III.

Heroes Of Might and Magic 3 + 4 and the King's Bounty games.
I hope so. WRPGs have never appealed to tme the way turn-based RPGs do. I even felt depressed last night thinking if games like Mass Effect and Fallout were the future for RPGs.Mr_Cumberdale
The future of mainstream RPG's, there's still plenty of traditional turn-based RPG's around.
I loved SSI's Goldbox series...that's where it was at! It's not flashy enough for today's gamers though.

I recommend Eschalon: Book I (2007) and Eschalon: Book II (2010):
I LOVE YOU!
seriously knowing about those games has me lost for words :)
what was ff13 if not turn based.
you take a turn they take a turn, you take a turn they take a turn. just because if you don't go and they take another turn does not mean it is not turn based.
A distinction should also be made between the DnD style turnbased combat and the JRPG oneblue_hazy_basicTrue.
i am praying for the oldschool turn based jrpgs to come back. i think the psx was the best era of jrpgs. i cant really see wrpg returning to turn based but i have hopes for great jrpg .i think when persona 5 comes to the consoles and gets high ratings even though it will be turn based(probably) will make more developers realize that turn based is good for rpgs.

Ok. That game looks fun...Going to go try the demo.

Too bad Book one has such slow transportation and little NPCs to talk to.
This. I think RTRPGs are a lot easier to work with. I do enjoy a good TBRPG, like FFX and such, but honestly, I find Fallout 3 more fun, and I'm sure New Vegas will be even more fun than that. so yeah. There are still lots of them. They probably will never be as popular as they once were though.

there are still a few good ones out there, especially on the handhelds. But a complete return of the genre to consoles would be amazing.

WRPGs moved passed this archaic battle system somewhere in the mid 90's.
Translation: WRPG´s are less RPG´s everyday that passes and more like action games. A few more years and they won´t be RPG´s at all. Not to open this can of worms but *whoops* RPG is the most abused term in gaming in regards to it's origins.[QUOTE="DeckardLee2010"]

Nothing is better than calling out double damage next to your friends around a table. That was RPGs when I was young. ;) RPG's in the gaming world are nothing more than interactive scripted choose your own adventure books. Nowadays they have good graphics and animation and less "exploring" and "trail and error" and a lot more button mashing. I like both now but know that the new games are far easier to complete and take much less grey matter usage as well.
