"These current-gen remasters could have been the definitive versions of what remains a highly entertaining game, but both of them are let down by performance issues. For a start, there's lingering disappointment that the developers could get nowhere near a locked 1080p60, while the lack of a 30fps cap means that gameplay is dominated by obtrusive judder. Meanwhile, there's just a sense that the remaster lacks polish - the mysterious omission of any form of anti-aliasing is difficult to fathom, especially when all prior versions of the game featured it in some way, shape or form.

Even with these problems, the experience across both current-gen consoles is considerably improved over the existing Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 releases. The increased resolution is obviously welcome, and while the inconsistent frame-rate is a problem, at least we are spared the constant tearing found on the last-gen versions, not to mention the consistently poor, sub 30fps performance that dogged the older releases. Out of the two versions tested here, the PS4 carves out the lead over the Xbox One game through better performance and slight improvements to effects work. While frame-rates are still highly variable, the fluctuations in fluidity aren't quite as impactful on PS4 as they are on Microsoft's console, providing an extra boost to the game's solidity under load.

As things stand, while these remasters are worthwhile, the compromises inherent in the conversion mean that despite some small visual drawbacks, the PC version remains the best edition of the game available - and the good news is that the Gat out of Hell standalone expansion launched this week on all formats, not just the PC but Xbox 360 and PS3 too."

Thank god i buy games on consoles. I get a better, more stable experience, while PC gets all them shitty ports.

They should had locked the game to 30fps, big fps jumps is just painful

Yeah but this makes faction fans fight with each other over 5 fps and DF love trolling over tiny differences.

If they showed the PC version, console gamers would fall back on 30 fps is enough and there's no fun in that.

PC is part of the face off most of the times. They compared the console settings to PC max and what kind of rig can give you a console experience.

This is a piss poor port

When a 7790 can get 29 FPS mins at 1080p max with 8x MSAA and 16xAF the consoles not hitting this are doing something wrong.

Further if you look at CPU performance even rubbish CPUs can get 59 FPS mins so the Jaguar CPUs in the console are not going to hold it back from a locked 30 FPS experience.

This port is a complete mess. They should be getting 1080p with max settings, nice AA and AF and a locked 30 FPS at a minimum.

It's hard to believe neither console can pull off a solid 30 on a saints row title, I mean they aren't exactly graphics kings.

The Jaguar CPUs would not halve the frame rate vs the FX 4100 so a rock sold 30 FPS should be their target with the GPU hardware they have. The CPU gives them enough performance to do that at least.

The fact the weaker GPU is outperforming the stronger GPU in this game just shows how crap a port it is.

So you're telling us this game engine is built on a DX12 engine? I have only heard Unity and Unreal 4 support DX12 at this point.The X1 could have DX12 features in the API... guess what this engine doesn't support DX12.

See saying things like what you just said....well you know what it means.

When games are built on DX12 engines and they have these problems.. an Unreal 4 engine game for example. Wouldn't it be better to say something like that then? This is a gen 7 engine with tweaks. How does "LOL DX12" even apply here?

PS4 raw GPU power is always going to win in a scenario like this. The API is custom to the PS4. The PS4 API is mature and it will continue to mature. So this gap probably won't close. It has no legacy redundancy as DX11 does, that is still in the X1 API.. Game engines that are truly built around the hardware and APIs in both systems will be the true test.

When DX12 is final on the X1.. which Phil said they will be adding it soon, and an actual engine is built to fully support DX12. Unreal 4 / Unity.

I think that will be the time to say "LOL DX12". That's my reasoning anyways.. We'll see.
