Do youn think that MS, SONY, and Nintendo maybe have jumped into the the nex gen to early this time? As we can see by the PS2, people are still really liking last gen consoles and arent very interested in HD and other features the current gen has. Do you think they should have waited a few more years and then released there consoles?

PS3 and Xbox360 were released to early because HD isn't the standard in homes yet. the wii could have waited and added HD or relaesed when it did.

They coulda waited a bit, been a bit more powerful. I like features like HD resolutions but when I imagined the power of the next-gen consoles back before any were out I imagined graphics like we are seeing from Crysis, but that already looks head over heels better than what the PS3 or 360 can manage. Part of it is processing power, part of it is needing more than 512mb of memory. Thats pathetic in this day and age. That always seems to be the culprit in consoles, skimping on the memory. Oh and Microsoft not making the hard drive standard was also a big mistake.

As great as the leap in technology is, it just hasn't been accepted by the average consumer yet. FYI, the economy sucks in a lot of places in the US, that also doesn't help.

It would have been good if they waited for DX10 but I'm glad I have my 360 and it's library of games to play. It takes a while to build a decent library and what I have on the 360 right now is better than anything in my last gen games collection... in most genres. I'm still waiting for a decent RPG, Oblivion was a step backwards IMO but still good I guess.

It should have started later, yes. These companies probably won't suffer much from it, though. HD is becoming popular and more common, but it still isn't there yet. It's even more worse for 1080p TVs. If you have one then you have some great picture, but that is even less of a standard than other HDTVs only supporting 720p or 1080i.

Yes it did,

Just think,

Xbox 360 would be DX 10 capable

PS3 would be able to run the original Killzone CGI

Wii would have better hardware, and devs would have more time to improve. (Red steel anyone?)

hummer700

About the Wii? it wouldn't have changed a bit, devs wanted to see the wii sell first, remember?

Microsoft really did force the hands of Sony and Nintendo... just by coming out first, it got more attention and publicity, and it would have only gotten worse if the other companies waited.

360 jumped to soon, but hey PS2 was kicking xbox A$$ so can you blame them on that part? I think the hardware is both lacking and to expensive in all the systems too.

For the Next gen I hope they update the graphics cards but keep it cheap and expand the RAM heavly. I want to see games that use 2 gigs of ram not this 512 junk that leaves draw distance after 30 feet. So small jump in graphics and big jump in shet on screen would be nice.

They did. It's called KOTOR and it's probably as good as Bioware could have done with the hardware the Xbox had. Many of the new features in Mass Effect simply wouldn't have worked on the Xbox's hardware. Animation, AI, realisticfacial expressions and all kinds of other cool effect need the improved hardware.

I don't think it did maybe the Microsoft one but not the other consoles because a gen normally lasts 5 years, so Sony and Nintendo waited for 5 years to launch there consoles.

IMO, and I'm really not being a fanboy here, MS came out too early and forced the other's hands.

MS came out trying to do what Sony did to them last gen:come out first and get as much of the market as you can. And, yes, they've been pretty successful thus far. But it has cost them in quality. We all know about the external power source andthe red-ring-of-death. But they also missed HDMI, high-capacity disc media, and motion sensing. All of thse issues could have been taken care of in the year lapse between 360 and the rest.

I guess we need to wait and see which decision would have been most fruitfull; getting the market set before the others or getting a quality console ready for the future that will last through the generation without a ton of different models.
