Guys I was wondering what your thoughts were on Destiny being hurt by being developed for both last gen and current gen consoles? As much fun as I am having with this game, I cant help but feel that if this title were developed only for the X1, PS4 and PC, it may have faired much better from a technical standpoint. Your thoughts?

I'll be that guy and say it benefitted them. A prime example is the 30 FPS scandal. It was implemented for cross-generation play between consoles in the system family. That was obviously revoked but the 30 FPS was still kept on the ps4, why is that? Was it to cover up the limitations of the ps4 or an honest mistake due to time restriction?

Before you answer these questions do remember the poor excuse the rep gave when they took out cross-gen play. Something along the lines of sniping a next-gen player and you can only see one pixel on your screen while the next-gen can see 2 pixels.

Yea the time they spent developing the game for PS3/360 could have been spent improving gameplay/plot/MP.

Nope, see Titanfall, that crossgen game (XO, PC, 360) is still the best shooter game right now.

No, it didn't.

I know many people love to use cross-gen as an escape goat for all that is bad with a game, but the truth is that NOTHING regarding Destiny's supposed limitations is due to PS360 hardware.

This is also nonsense btw. The foundations of Destiny is far from broken (seeing as it follows tried and true game design) and most of the complaints are either superficial or are directed to HOW certain modes or systems are balanced right now.

Thats the opposite of fundamentally broken as all of the above can be easily fixed with added content and balance/tweak patches from fan feedback.

I don't think so, last gen consoles can't be the thing that effects level design or causes repetitiveness (or whatever the complaints were) can it? I mean those things are planned before development begins, they just don't wing it do they?

Maybe Bungie were over ambitious more so with the scope of the game in relation to their experience than anything else.

this, crossgen isnt responsible for the borring story, utterly repettive gameplay and lack of depth.

firstly, lol thunderdrone comment

secondly, destiny gunplay sucks balls because having a high tpk with forced ads just doesnt work, it slows down the game and forces users to just stand still and shoot. what they should have done was made ads optional and have hip fire retain 100% accuracy like in halo. also the enemies are just bullet sponges and the multiplayer is a complete mess so i wont even go there.

thirdly, destiny sucks

thirdly, destiny sucks

1- The ADS complaint is odd.

ADS is a gamble. It gives you more accuracy but limits your movement. Thats added depth and gameplay freedom. The trick is to balance how much you use it depending on your weapon type and how close to your targets you are. Watch any videos of skilled players and you will quickly find that hip fire is not only doable, its essential once you go against an experienced team or a high difficulty raid.

If hip fire was 100% accurate than ADS would be nothing but an option for the lower leveled players. Thats basically rendering certain gameplay mechanics obsolete for the end-game portion of Destiny, so I don't see how that is a good idea.

2- Destiny isn't Halo. Destiny is Diablo with guns. And like Diablo, part of the challenge is to fight stupidly large mobs or enemies with incredibly long life-bars by working with others (or alone) until you find the most efficient strategy to tip the odds in your favor with the gear and skill set you currently have.

Its not broken design, its a tried and true formula. One that anyone is free to dislike obviously.

but with a high tpk ads just feels shit because u cant even strafe much when u are shooting or jump. ads should be used when shooting at a player from long range, it shouldnt be mandated at practically all ranges. halo br for example, the zoom is used by player when aiming long range, having 100% hipfire accuracy doesnt make ads useless, just unnecessary at short/medium range.

bungie fucked up by just jamming everything in to the game and not giving much thought to it. yes destiny isnt halo but that doesnt mean bungie should abandon everything good they have done in the past just for the sake of change. having higher tpk than most other games is good but jamming ads up in there is horrible

People that are saying yes don't understand the flaws in Destiny. It had nothing to do with its scale or its visuals. Destiny's problems come from its poor mission design, poor loot variety, boring enemy encounters, recycled enviroments, etc.

This game wasn't held back by last gen consoles, it was held back by poor decisions from Bungie.
