Diablo 3 publisher Activision Blizzard has sold more than 30 million copies of the action role-playing game, the company announced today.

The figure represents worldwide sales to customers of Diablo 3 since the game's debut in May 2012, said Activision in the earnings report for the second quarter of its 2015 fiscal year. Activision's second quarter ended June 30, meaning Diablo 3 reached the 30 million sales mark in just over three years.

It's unclear if the sales numbers apply just for the stand-alone game, or if they also include copies of the expansion Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, which launched in March 2014. We've reached out to Blizzard for clarification, and will update this article with any information we receive.

Man, I really need/want to get this already.

@ReadingRainbow4: Here I can very much agree with you. I own Reaper of Souls on X1 and it's probably the worst game I have. It requires so little brainwork and skill that I'd always fall asleep playing it, fulfilling certain quests while half-asleep.

I had a similar experience with d3, although I never played ROS.

Thinking of getting back into Path of Exile again since that game just added so much content since I last played.

Seasons is not in console version because your characters/savefiles is in your console and not blizzservers/battlenet. Console version is fun as long you play with only friends. If you got 4 controllers you can play 4 people on the same screen !!

But if you plan to play alone or multiplayer online with random people you will losing interest very fast with the console version because of all cheaters you meet half the time.

Overall i would say stick with just the better PC version, Ps4 version is not worth it unless you play locally with friends.

I just recently plat'ed Diablo 3: UEE edition.

Blizzard's continuing support for a game that came out a few years ago is impressive. The upcoming PATCH will include a new area to explore, new difficulty levels, rebalancing of all classes, and a plethora of new goodies.

Plus there are strong rumblings on the interwebz about a 2nd expansion.

Fantastic game and worthy of every sale it gets. Progression is perfect... even well into a build with high end gear, you can always find improvements and there is always incentive to hunt.

Have D3:RoS for the Xbox One, and so far it is my favorite game of this generation. I have somewhere over 300 hours in the game. Elder Scrolls Online might come close in time played eventually.

I would say 30 million suckers, but ugh I actually bought that piece of shit too.

God what a boring ass genre. Fucking hermits gassed this series up and it has nothing to do with "depth" or actually being good at the game, which you would expect given the elitism, shit is fucking interactive labor. Go do bitch work for a bunch of hours and then eventually you'll get an item that upgrades you from bitch to mega-bitch.

The genre is fine. Path of Exile is great and got AAA. RoS is great and was well received. It takes a week max to gear out with Loot 2.0 in RoS to play higher GRs. The rest is up to small incremental upgrades for more hardcore players.

No current ARPG is as bad as Destiny. Console's best attempt at the whole loot/rpg thing made PC's worst attempt seem godly.

I feel like a lot of people are not seeing RoS and just judging D3. RoS is a completely different and superior game.

I'll definitely agree to this the fact that Diablo 3 plays so much better on consoles, I should have waited for the console version back then. It's rare to see a game does well on consoles over PC.

The highest GR clears require team speak and ridiculous reflexes.

True still not as skillfull as other genres, it's still a gear based ARPG. But not as bad as shit like Destiny.

Well it's pretty good 500 content patches later. Not 30 million good though. Hopefully Blizzard doesn't use this figure to excuse another embarrassingly shit launch as they move forward with other expansions and titles.

I don't give a **** what they score, what matters is when I play the game and if I'm entertained by what I play. You think I give a shit if Destiny sucks or not? I primarily game on PC mate, not exactly a counter there. Path of Exile I can at least get behind how long that skill tree goes, but then it comes to the playing it part and it's do this repetitive action over and over and over and over and over again, because the whole game is about getting the sparkly shiny items with the better numbers/attributes. That's not a game, that's servitude.

If the Greater Rifts are later in the game, I didn't. Game was too boring to suffer through.

But I'm not familiar with this genre, so maybe none of them have penalties for dying. IDK. All I know is that the lack of a penalty for death really put me off of the game. No penalty for death gets rid of any tension the gameplay might have had.

I doubt making the game harder would have made it less boring. And the default difficulty should have some kind of meaningful penalty for death.

In Diablo 3, you don't even have to walk back anywhere. You can respawn back to the the exact spot you died at. It's a joke.

Very much agree

I bought into the hype. Hermits couldnt stfu about this series so I was like "lets see whats so special about this". In the end I was left with the feeling "Was this shit hermits hyped for so long?". It required literally no skill. Its just grinding through some very boring dungeans, killing the same enemies over and over again and picking up loot that looked the same most of the times, only some minor color changes. What a lame ass game and lame ass genre

Proof that hermits hype everything thats not on consoles (Diablo 3 wasnt on consoles at the time) and use most consolites ignorance on some series to brand it "hardcore". Diablo had nothing of hardcore

Diablo 2 is a little bit more endearing, at least in terms of how it handles lore is a bit more respectable. And I can get the appeal of the PvP in these games, but you have to do so much fucking bitch work just to get to that part. The worst offense in Diablo 3 was how you had to sit through so much shit before it gives you difficulty modes, when said difficulty modes were more or less required to make the most of said bitch work.

Yeah, it's a joke to call a game that doesn't punish you for dying hardcore.

I mean, I get that most games don't punish the player too harshly. Most of the time they just set you back a ways, but that's enough to make me not want to die. It works. But in Diablo 3, you can literally respawn right where you died and keeping hacking away at shit.

The real suckers are people like me, who bought D3 day 1. That was a HUGE mistake. I bought it day one, got to level 60 and forgot the game ever existed. The people who started playing it after RoS was released, they got the best deal, cause RoS (and the patch that came along it) pretty much made D3 a new game. Now im not talking FF: Realm Reborn levels of fixing a game, but somewhere in the ballpark. The game has improved so much since its inception that it feels like a completely different game. D3 (day one) was a huge waste of my money, but RoS definitely was not. If you dont wanna buy the expansion, even the core D3 game now is so much better due to all the patches they released that fixed all the glaring issues.

Well you could just play diablo 3 in hardcore mode.....

I prefer to not play Diablo 3 at all but honestly, I'm not a fan of the higher difficulty defense. The game should have a penalty for dying on the default difficulty.

@charizard1605: Heh same here. I haven't played it because of the backlash and I wasn't interested in it and Diablo in general.

Does anyone recommend buying this game? and why?
