DC Universe Online is now available on the Xbox One and GamingBolt recently caught up with S.J. Mueller who is the Creative Director of the game, to check out how the game is shaping up on Microsoft’s console. The game is already available on the PS4 and PC, so what prompted the devs to bring the game on the Xbox One?

“When we transitioned to Daybreak Games last year, it opened up a lot of opportunities for us – we were able to redefine and evolve as a company,” Mueller said to GamingBolt.”This also meant that we were able to develop games on different platforms like Xbox One. DC Universe Online has a thriving community and Xbox one users have been asking for us to bring the game over to the Xbox so that they too can be part of the DC Universe. We’re really excited that they’ll have the opportunity to work alongside (or against) Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Circe, Lex Luthor and the Joker this April when DCUO launches on the XB1.”

Furthermore, he also confirmed that the game will be running at 1080p on the Xbox One with an unlocked 30 frames per second experience. Mueller also revealed that they did not used the Xbox One’s 7th core CPU to improve performance. However, they simply used the functionality available within Unreal Engine 3 to optimize the Xbox One build.

The game is now available for free on the Xbox One. Stay tuned for our full interview with Mueller soon.

This is prove that we do not need new consoles. Look what the powerful X1 is doing. I know it is not a demanding game, but witness the X1 crossing the gap. 1080p!!!!

That's not even an accomplishment. Have you seen the graphics in this game? It's fun as hell, definitely worth a romp, but graphics king it is not.

I play for about 6 months when release on the PS3, then about a month on the PS4. That's it.

Same time for the PS3 version, but wow, you spent a month on the PS4? I think i spent 8 hours in the game on the PS4.

I don't get it, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a great example of the Xbox One being a competent console, it just takes a bit of extra work.

Uncharted 4 and Ratchet and Clank obliterate anything on Xbone visually. Xbone is not capable of producing games that look that good.

Planetside 2 runs at 1080p on the PS4 and will run at 1080p on the Xbox One when they finish that port. These are older games and aren't very graphically intensive.

They are actually more CPU limited than GPU. MMOs really kill CPUs because networking sucks.

This is a prime example of not understanding computer hardware, what a surprise coming from a member of the console community, that's not how it works. The fact of the matter is the hardware in the Xbox One is just as capable in terms of rendering techniques as the PlayStation 4 or even the PC, it's derivative, that's just a fact. Now, it may have a weaker GPU in terms of overall compute, but that doesn't mean it couldn't render those games with the exact graphical fidelity. A resolution drop would have to no doubt be done, 900p or the likes, but don't fool yourself into thinking the PlayStation 4 is some special flower, it's simply a more powerful version of what is essentially the same hardware package, that's it.

Resolution this resolution that.

We are gamers not Pixel counters if you like the look of a game then who gives a f*** about what anyone else thinks.

Personally i have yet to see a game that tops Witcher 3 for Graphics and it has nothing to do with resolution the Art style is perfect in my opinion and the way the environment reacts to differing strengths of wind and other Weather factors is amazing.

you can prattle on about which games are Technically better all day long but the truth is that 'best looking game' is always going to be a subjective opinion Because it's based on our own personal preferences and is not based on resolution alone.

I Have my Xbox one set at 720 output because my old 19" TV is not capable of 1080p yet the games look a ton better than they do on the 360,incuding Battlefront (one of the best looking games i have seen) even though it's 720p native on the Xbone, which just says to me that not only is resolution not the deciding factor in a games visual appeal but it's actually quite low down the list.

It's just people looking for any trivial reason they can to claim there piece of plastic is superior to another piece of plastic when ultimately in the real world, nobody really gives a shit.

I game with pixels. If i don't like the look of the pixels myswell be playing on a atari 2600.

I game on new stuff for the higher resolution. If I want low resolution and block graphics i'll go back to my old consoles.

I'm gamer who takes everything into account PS4 is good main for 1080p tv gaming, PC is a great man for higher resolution high graphical fidelity, the xb1 is not a main console its competing with ps4 on that front and losing in that department.

The xb1 is side dish like macaroni and cheese, the ps4 is main dish and the PC is all you can buffet you don't need anything else dish.

resolution / frames matter places like digital foundry and youtube are talking about twitch is talking about resolution I trust those areas and those people they are regular people. people like me ign gamespot talks about the resolution forums talk about it. Thats where im at on this issue.

I don't give a F*** about the Technical side quite honestly if i like a game i will play it end of.

'If I want low resolution and block graphics i'll go back to my old consoles.'

Yet a game with block graphics is killing most top end graphics games in sales with over 70 million copies sold already Because it's just totally fun.

'resolution / frames matter places like digital foundry and youtube are talking about twitch is talking about resolution I trust those areas and those people they are regular people. people like me ign gamespot talks about the resolution forums talk about it. Thats where im at on this issue.'

I don't generally run with the Herd, i go my own way.

also, you trust digital foundry?

you would be surprised to know then that DF are not convinced that resolution really matters that much

'Nielsen polling data says it does, but Digital Foundry isn't totally convinced.'

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-does-resolution-really-matter.

they see it as a way of quantifying power between consoles not a benchmark for whats better looking.

'our take on it is that resolution became a way of quantifying the technological capabilities of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One - a relatable metric, if you like. We're not sure if 'console A is more powerful than console B' was one of Nielsen's 30 reasons, but resolution is a parameter by which the differing power levels of the machines can be addressed, and was certainly the way the specialist press - ourselves included - went about it.'

which has nothing to do with actually playing the games themselves or which games are 'better looking' it's a way of judging the hardware NOT the games.

but i digress i have been playing games since 1985 and i still play Zx spectrum and commodore 64 games from that Era and a lot of my most favorite recent games are Pixel games and isometric games like Sworcery, Fist of awesome and the Deer god.

i feel sorry for people who are so hung up on Graphics and resolution that they feel they cannot go back and Play the games they used to enjoy or enjoy current games that just happen to have old style graphics.

and i would love to get my hands on an Atari 2600 and play some of those game again

Yeah but wouldn't want the best version of your favorite game?

Say I loved minecraft and was a huge minecraft enthusiast right which one would I play as my main

PC: 4k resolution a million mods which would I rather play

PS4: 1080p friendly system

XB1: Unfriendly

WiiU: unfriendly

Ipad: touch controls outta control not friendly.

Maybe you should follow the herd maybe you should go where the cows are heading instead of building your own path.

Dude just follow where people are going and just do that ya know there's no point in just digging hole making stand your about to get run over by a herd just go with them dude.

As long as i get to play the game i don't really care.

the Xbox 360 was the best for multiplats last gen but thats not why it was my favorite console, it had More WRPG's than the PS3 , simple as that.

'Say I loved minecraft and was a huge minecraft enthusiast right which one would I play as my main'

apart from the mods on the Pc version the rest is neither here nor there, my kids play it on PC i play it on my 360, every version other than the Pc version and the Ipad version are identical as far as gameplay and graphics are concerned aside from resolution.

Why would i bother Forking out for the Xbox one version when apart from resolution it's identical to every other console version and i already own and can play it on.

I don't see the point in paying out for the same game just for a resolution upgrade.

Also, please explain how the Xbox one version is 'unfriendly' yet the Ps4 version is 'friendly' despite the two being identical apart from resolution.

Not surprising, considering most games on the Xbox One are 1080p.

That doesn't help me at all. In my very busy life, I'm far more interested to know if the game is actually good. How does it compare to those MArvel Alliance games from last gen? Not even sure if it's worth my time installing it but I am interested. The resolution is the last thing on my mind....don't care if 900p or 1080p native, I would get it as long as it's a great game.

Just another addition to the long list of 1080p Xbox One games, no surprise really.

I don't get it, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a great example of the Xbox One being a competent console, it just takes a bit of extra work.

It was pretty impressive the console can run that game at 1080p. Aside from the KZ2 esque controller lag

People still play this game?

Played it for about a month on the PS4. Haven't played again in a long while. May have to give it another try. The game was still fun. Kind of reminded me of City of Heroes. That game was great, but I ended up quitting it to play World of Warcraft for like 2 years.

Downloaded it because I have the space for it but didn't play it yet. I did view some streams and people are playing it. Maybe the recent DC movies, comics and shows and releasing it on Xbox One gave this game some life.

Heh, what an excuse, NYaDC. What else to expect from lem. LOL! Like the member said and it's true. Sadly for your lovely Xbone. R.I.P. Maybe in next-gen. Till then....eat your Xbone piece of crap. Oh, you also said that DX12 will push Xbone games to 1080p ( when you were NYaDC ). LOL! But hey, just check the Mirror's Edge.

Uncharted 4 and Ratchet and Clank obliterate anything on Xbone visually. Xbone is not capable of producing games that look that good.

Explanations do not equate to excuses, I said new SDK's and DirectX 12 would change resource parsing and CPU/GPU management and make hitting 1080p more achievable.

P.S. Rachet & Clank is running on the same engine Sunset Overdrive uses.

Your explanation = excuse

I'm sure it will.

P.S. But Ratchet looks way better than Sunset.

"Looks way better" is not the word I would use because it's inaccurate when kept in the context of the comparison. It's scaled differently, it's stylized differently, Rachet & Clank uses a much more simple geometry and texturing setup, everything is large bubbly and very little attempts to be finely detailed, it's in line with 3D animation which it's attempting to recreate.

It's also linear so it has a front and center larger rendering budget, it's not an open world game like Sunset Overdrive where what you can see is where you can go. Also you need to account for Sunset Overdrive having far more enemies and effects taking place on screen at any given point in time, Rachet & Clank gets chaotic but everything about the game is localized.

This is the same line of logic people try to use against games like Forza Motorsport and Horizon in comparison to Driveclub, everything needs to be kept in context.

  • Driveclub: 30 FPS closed circuit racer
  • Forza Motorsport 6: 60 FPS closed Circuit racer
  • Forza Horizon 2: 30 FPS open world racer

It's all about development choices and operating context.

And Driveclub is doing damn more technical stuff than Forza Horizon 2 even if it is a closed circuit racer. Btw. some areas in Driveclub are really big. Differences are huge in terms of graphics. Want some gifs? I'm pretty sure your lovely Xbone will be embarrassed, NyaDC.

You trying to equalize PS4 and Xbone in terms of power. Not gonna happen, NyaDC. Damn lems here. They trying to spin everything when their lovely Xbone is butchered worldwide in terms of sales. Even with alt account like you. You're disgrace, man. On par with MisterXmedia.

First off, why did you omit this entire part of my post?

Secondly, I don't need your .gifs that give a skewed perception to how the games actually look on a television. Unlike yourself I own every single one of these games, Rachet & Clank, Sunset Overdrive, Driveclub, Forza Horizon 2 and Forza Motorsport 6.

Driveclub is doing more "technical" things because like Rachet & Clank it's an isolated game with a lot of localized high level rendering taking place at only 30 FPS. The stuff far out is simple geometry, models, texturing etc, it doesn't need to be particularly impressive or have shifting levels of detail because the fact of the matter is you're never going there, from far away it looks like more than it actually is.
