Common sense: Xbox 360 lacks MMOs and MAGs because of LIVE and a weaker CPU

Anyone noticed that Microsoft steered away from massive mulitplayer online games (MMOs)? They know that gamers paying monthly fees for MMOs will resent having to pay for LIVE as well. As such, in a field of delicious MMOs, Microsoft is basically letting Sony have all the foods.

Massive action games (MAGs) aren't being developed for the 360 perhaps because the 360's CPU is too weak to do it, or becasue LIVE's dependence on P2P servers make it impractical. Whatever the case, it looks like Sony will win the online games battle, especially with MMOs and MAGs.

Also, only n00bs play WoW in Fullscreen Mode.

I love MMOs. That is why I own a PC.

You are a bit misinformed on how many MMOs are on the 360.

*facepalm* except Everquest was running on systems as weak as the PS2. And Final Fantasy XI was running on a system as weak as the PS2. And Phantasy Star Universe was running a system as weak as the PS2. Hmm... and WoW practically runs on any PC. Get where I'm going with this? The reason there aren't a lot of MMOs on the 360 -OR- PS3 is because it's not in the best interest of MMO-makers to put them on consoles.

You've got a game that can run on any PC, and you want to make $15 a month of the people playing it. You can A. Put it on PC (everyone has one) and keep all of the money for yoruself -OR- B. Spend a lot of money putting it on consoles that not everyone has, and have to pay Sony and Microsoft part of your money. It's a no brainer.

Mag should be called Lag. Oh and the graphics are going to suck bet on it.

OK so others in this thread have explained how you were wrong witrh your original post. I think subrosian put it best in explaining the various mmo's that were on previous generation consoles, wow having very low system requirements etc. You should now appreciate that cpu power has nothing to do with the ability of a console to link up and network with other players or at least in the context of running mmo as you origianlly suggested. Also baring in mind that not all Live games are P2P, some like Battlefield 2 use dedicated servers.

OK, so baring all that in mind, are you going to give us a System Wars first and come and concede you were mistaken in your original post?

1) The CPU has nothing to do with it.

2) The 360 currently has more MMOG lined up than the PS3.

3)Live can run dedicated servers just like PSN, Live HAS games with dedicated servers (See unreal tourney 3, a few others that currently slip my mind) so that whole point goes out the window.

I read on gamespot news recently that the publishers stated that the xbox 360 version will be out by the first half of next year.

They have put a lot of time into this game and i think it looks good.

It funny that when i mentioned this game a few month ago PS3 fanboy said this game wouldn't be good because it had to many people playing at the same time but when MAG was announced then suddenly it a great idea.

When is MAG due out? I thought that this was just a new game so it would be a couple of years but if it out sooner then someone let me know.

The same with The Agency, when is that out. They have talked about this game for years.

And no the game looks like average, not to mention would play horribly on a console.

1. The game looks like a Quake clone, and plays like a quake clone - from the gameplay videos. Large player battles will be horrendus cluster****s.

2. Because of the games insane quake like speed, and wepon flicking it would be almost impossible to properly aim on an analouge nub.

3. We dont even know how the 360 version is going to be pulled off on such old and dated hardware - and remember this is on the Unreal 3 Engine - UT3 on 360 and Ps3 could only support 24 players or bots on the engine, wheras the PC version has up to 64.

Don't talk about technology if you have no clue about how it works. The CPU has absolutely nothing to do with performance in an MMO, and by thinking so you have proven that you are clueless when it comes to technology.bungie93

Yeah.. Have you seen the technical specifications for the 360's Processor? It is a hybrid 3.8 GHz Quad Core. So the Processor is too weak? Also, if MS really wanted a game such as MAG then they would produce decicated servers.

But FF online was on 360. It was on the PS2 as well. So was Phantasy Star Online. The 360 can deffinitelly handle MMO's it's just whether they feel the console users would want to play them at this time.
