why are they so scared to show actual game play?

@tryit: I don't think they're scared. The game probably wont even be out for another 2 years. Plenty of time to show gameplay.

Either it's so horrible it would unleash a plague to blight the Earth for a thousand years, or it's so awesome it will literally make the heads of anyone who watch it explode. CDPR are trying to spare our lives.

Either those, or they're just not ready to show it yet.

I suspect its because people freaked out when Witcher 3 came out and didn't look quite like the early gameplay they showed.

so they are probably being more careful and will only show gameplay when they are confident it will look like the final product

no absolutely positively no way in hell that is their motivation.

They are intentionally dialing up the hype to 11, if they were concerned about expectations they would not be releasing finely tuned cinematic videos and calling them 'game engine footage' that would be absurdly ridiculous thing to do if you wanted to manage expectations.

I will just watch Altered Carbon instead. From what I can tell on the actual game play its better then I had assumed but I will wait for someone to edit out all the cut scene bullshit that makes me want to scream

case in point STALKER was said to be open world and it absolutely wasn't remotely close to that.

I think 90% of what you have seen thus far is basically a cutscene. meaning you dont interact.

Something I just noticed: they seem to have some kind of "live" dialogue system. You choose your dialogue through the face buttons, but maintain control of your character, unless cutscene.

I like this idea.
