January 27th was when Capcom announced the total shipped numbers for Resident Evil 7. Which Capcom called a "solid start". But it appears not everyone thought the same. Immediately after the numbers were announced, shares started to fall. Shares of Capcom on the Tokyo Stock Exchange ended today, January 30, down by more than 3 percent.

The numbers compared to last were Resident Evil 4 shipped 4 million first week and Resident Evil 6 shipping 4.5 million first week. Who knows what 7 will end up selling, but lets hope for the best. February 1 is Capcom's earnings report, so we may find out more then.

Eh, that sounds like a bunch of noise traders. Uneducated investors who look at launch figures for two games when retail copies were king. We are in such a digital age and the general hype around this game is better than RE6. I'd expect their share value to shoot back up in a few days.

I'm surprised it moved that many units for a 7 hour game with no replay value and that pricetag.

Its sad because the only thing that is missing in RE7 is a larger weapons variety, enemy variety and less insulting puzzle (THE weakness of the game). If it fails to sell, Capcom is ******** enough to go back to RE6 style since that particular game sold more lol. Its also sad how 2.5mil isn't enough for a game like this. Great voice acting and story but it wasn't screaming AAA at all.

Unless you're buying Take Two Interactive shortly before a new Grand Theft Auto drops, you're batshit crazy to invest in any video game publisher stocks.

They should have removed more gameplay. I heard less gameplay is more when it comes to gaming.

Markets across the board were down today, the 30th of January because the US president signed an executive order banning people from 7 countries from entering the US. Almost all stocks felt it today.

These are the times when I like holding Utility company stocks. They're basically regulated monopolies, pay a nice dividend, and are considered "defensive" stocks that perform better than the general market during turmoil.

Absolutely. Defensive, income stocks are great hedge's to my growth ones that take some hit from political strife like now.

@silversix_: 2.5 may very well be enough considering how much of a smaller budget it had compared to RE6.

I hope more people buy RE7, because I don't want a crap game like RE6 to beat it. RE7 has definitely brought the RE series back where it should be, survival horror :), and I don't mind the first person view either. But it could be harder to sell games like this compared to the previous games, since even young kids could play RE4, 5 and 6 without getting scared. And maybe the younger generation likes the crappy steroid action of RE5 and 6 better.

I've read it's 10 or fewer hours (some things are unlocked with 4 hour runs).

I'd love to buy it right now, but I'll wait till it's $20 or less. I'm sure it's great. I loved the demo...but there's just not enough content for full price for me. PC gamer.

People are buying digital more these days, they should release some digital figures. Overall, I'd say latest game probably exceeded many people's expectations, especially considering the funk Capcom has been in these last few years. Plus, Capcom is in the black, just means fatter dividends at end of fiscal year for those that hold onto their stock.

You're misinformed. Your take couldn't be further from the truth. It plays like a combination of ReMake, Nemesis, and 4 but in first person. It's amazing. If you're a Resident Evil fan you should be all over this.

I read somewhere else that RE7 was the best selling video game this weekend (if i'm not mistaken...honestly i didn't pay that much attention to the article) so if any...this says a lot more about the current state of the industry than Capcom itself.

Horror is niche... Action games sell to a wider base.

That's my twitch reaction.

I'm not suggesting the game is P. T. I played the demo and it seemed less intense, but it sure lives in the same vein. Do FPS suspense/horror type games move that many copies? Because the game could be aces, but many won't buy just because they don't enjoy those types of games.

I wouldn't say a few days, but my thoughts exactly. I wouldn't necessary look at this info as damning (yet), just shit most gamers don't know shit about, for fairly obvious reasons.

I never said the game was bad, it looks like the best horror game in years. It is 7 hours long and it won't have much replay value for most, wouldn't you agree?

My comment came off as negative, but I'm genuinely surprised this many people bought it for 60 bucks.

I definitely don't agree. It took me fourteen and a half hours to beat and I'm currently on my second playthrough on Madhouse Difficulty.

I don't agree with you at all. It's not personal but the trend of being cavalier and reductive about games in an attempt to look like a know it all on the internet is beginning to sicken me the more I see it. Especially when the info is grossly misinformed and the games of high quality.

Resident evil 7 looks great plays awesome environment is terrific along with sound music. I've played res. Evil series all way through and played everyone From a kid until now and i just turned 29 and it's the only reason I still play games is because of this series and that's what this series has meant to me and to say I'm disappointed is a understatement. Don't get me wrong this was a great game but the enemies and story does not feel like resident evil. To wait all this time for this game and it to be this is more then a let down. I understand trying fresh series up with a new character but to make it first person when the entire series besides the crappy outbreak and umbrella games has been third person with certain characters we have invested years playing as besides this younger generation of fans that are just now getting to discover resident evil. I didn't think it would ever be possible the series I've loved sense I was a 8 year old child would let me down with this watered down knock off to this wonderful series. There was nothing wrong with 1-6 and this is just B/S. I understand fans being mad bout the last couple games getting away from horror but all was needed done was to make game scarier with zombies and enemies constantly attacking you. I would've been oh k with first person as one the main characters. But this game felt like playing evil within instead of a resident evil title. It had the scary environment and being chased liked the original 3 but there wasn't enough enemies and the enemies looked like mutants. I think this game is probably wonderful in vr and it's probably pretty intense but this just feels like something completely different and just not what resident evil has been. U have got to have characters from the first 6 and u gotta have zombies. If you don't then what is it your really playing and what's point following along with the series. Just call the game whatever just don't call it resident evil because 2 me it takes away all that it was and still is

In what part was I being reductive? I've seen several people play through this thing. 7-9 hours on average to complete it and starting over offers nothing new. Even that one choice you make in the game doesn't change anything in terms of gameplay. You can't compare yourself with the general public, who don't care much for a difficulty increase and looking over every inch, in a horror game. You know the scripted scares, you know the story, you know the puzzles.

Nothing personal on my side either, but I think it's a normal conclusion to think that this game made impressive numbers cause it's such good horror, people see the quality. Normally 10 hours for 60 bucks doesn't cut it these days. Being surprised can be a positive thing.

How many consoles were on the market when RE6 shipped compared to the number of consoles on the market when RE7 shipped?
