I think they are right in some ways. Since PS3 took years to be jailbroken, adopters before the jailbreak usually don't want to lose feature such as PSN and online gaming.

When I check the number of PS3 torrents on the internet, their numbers are quite small.

Isn't the PS3 notorious for being difficult to develop games on? That could one reason.

I can't relate piracy to game development difficulty. Mind explaining?

All of you are wrong. There is no real beneficial way to backup PS3 games as Blank blu ray disc are still too expensive to make copies with on any scale. Some PS3 games are even just too big for people to even download, so they don't bother with the amount of trouble it produces. Maybe when Blu rays discs become like a few bucks it will be a viable option for them. Also there is no current way to play PS3 backups without a lot of fiddling so most modders don't bother with it.

Sometimes people will make games very similar to popular titles and try to sell them. Just search for the Mario clones on the NES and SNES and you'll see what I mean. I don't know why, exactly. I do remember that it was a topic that was brought up a lot when it first came out, both by users here and developers. So, why pirate a console that would be a pain in the butt to pirate? Of course, they could just pirate the games that are already out, but game updates would be out of the question unless they really knew what they were doing.

Its beeen said to be not that muh diffrent, you just have to approach how you code it diffrently down to the way SPU's work, a few devs have saif is bad (valve) then changed their tune once they got it down.

Exactly...therefore it has the lowest rate of piracy.

Emulators / firmware hacks / flashcarts haven't been created yet for the system.

The only reason PS3 has the lowest rate of piracy (not including the 3DS) is because you need a system below a certain firmware in order for illegally acquired games to work.

By like 3 or 4 million. Not very significant when we are talking about user bases of 40 or 50 million+

It sounds like they just didn't get it. In that case, I'm not really sure why PS3 has such low pirating.

Here are the main reasons:

1. The hackers who worked on custom PS3 firmware (enables illegal games to be run) received an ultimatum from Sony: "We know where you live. Stop and we won't press charges or continue and go to prison."

So PS3 hacking is no longer in active development.

2. The PS3 wasn't publicly hacked until this year. In contrast, the Wii and 360 have been hacked for at least 3 years.

3. Illegal PS3 games only really started to surface a couple of years ago, unlike illegal Wii / 360 games which have been out for many years.

I think it more relates to the size of the games rather than type of disc. I sure as hell won't download 25GB+ of data just so i don't have to pay for it a game, i'm not that cheap and tacky.

Those tiny games don't require SPE/SPU interaction, general number crunching of the Cell would handle those types of games no problem, i think there's a version of doom on PS3 as well so can't that difficult, might just be the low numbers of adopters of a jailbreak that stops people putting in the effort and time to making those games since only a handful will use them.

When you de-compress game assets from Blu-Ray ISOs, PS3 games hardly take up any more space than the 360.

Obviously there some exceptions, but most of the time size is irrelevant.

Once you extract the .ISOs, tell me how much space they take up.

I own a PS3 and I buy all my games.

I also copy my games to my computer harddrive so that I have a digital backup in case the physical copies break.

And when I extract them, I find that there's always a lot of space in the disk that's being unused.

Why is that so difficult to understand?

Ok and how do you play this digital copy? Also i do understand that not all games fill up the disc i used 25GB+ as an example of games such as God of War 3 or Uncharted 2.

Pretty much this. Things like downloading 32gb games or more. Being harder to crack, buying stuff to hack the console affects how lazy some ppl are. The easiest to crack will always be the most pirated. The harder will be the least.

very few PS3 games are over 20gb

PS3 was also the most easy to pirate, even more than PC

the problem is, if you dont have a 3.55 or below PS3 you cant hack it, even when you hack it, you cant play the newst games or play online, so most people who tried out CFW updated their PS3 allready

As a lemming I will way "nobody wants to play flops".

and no one has mentioned how expensive the PS3 is??

Playstation 3's cost way more than a 360, Wii, and PC in most developing countries. That is where the bulk of pirate software is sold and distributed. No duh it will have the lowest rate of pirates.

Why would you pirate a game if you can't afford the darn machine to play it with? :P

Of course there are other factors but seriously? Do you think I'll give up every cent of my pay for 8 Months just to afford a PS3? No!

Most non-NA/EU countries, you can walk into a shopping mall and find pirated games on sale... and people in those shops more than willing to mod your consoles for you. Console piracy is extremely prevalent... we just don't hear about it because it is impossible to track like it is on the PC (which still doesn't give an accurate number).

You'd need a Bluray Burner, Bluray Discs, and GBs of bandwidth just to pirate one game. When you consider these costs and the hassle to pirate a game, most people just go down to gamestop and spend $20-$60 and be done with it.

Pirated PS3 games don't have to be put to physical media to boot. And many places in the US and Canada offer hundreds of GB's of bandwidth, and many offer unlimited.

The ps3 just had the best security, partly due to blu-ray. It was never really about the size of ps3 games or the costs of blu-ray discs/burners. The security on the ps3 makes it difficult to hack and difficult to get a GOOD hack
