Can Any Shooter Stand Up To Halo 3?

With other high profile games on the way like Haze, Killzone 2, The Darkness, and Crysis, does anyone believe that any of these games can compete with the 10005080 tone freight train that is Halo 3?

Although some of these games promise to be excellent and look like they will deliver, does the hype of Halo 3 alone outweigh any chance that they have to be successful, because we all know that Halo 3 would sell even if Bungie just shoved some dog crap in the box and told you to throw it at your parents.

Personally I don't think that any game, regardless of its pedigree or its outcome, can or will stand up to Halo 3, that's not to say that Halo 3 will be a better game than any of these other games, that is simply based on the ridiculous amounts of Hype and fan love that surround this series.

True, but it will still only be an episode, and not a full title. Though Portal and TF2 will make it a lot more worth it, I'm sure. :)

Max Payne was one of the shortest games ever but it's probably one of the greatest shooters of all time. Valve is packing in a lot of extra content with EP2 to make it very worthwhile.

Can't wait to preload on Steam.

The Halo series is way overrated. Just a cut and paste job of the Tribe Series and Unreal Tournament.

the Jedi Knight series, Half-Life Series , Unreal Tournament Series and Battlefield series are all better .

On the console side of things, nope. Not a chance.

There's a reason all the next best things (Your Resistances and Killzones) are all billed as "Halo killers". Halo as a series is an unstoppable juggernaut that has yet to be topped in any form on consoles.Halo set the bar so high that most games can't even see it, let alone hope to step above it.

If you bring PC shooters into the mix, well, possibly. I don't really keep tabs on PC shooters so I can't vouch for them.

but i wasnt to pleased with halo 2, it was way too short and there wasnt a lot of change between the two halos so far... there better be some better vehicles or weapons otherwise it will just be the same as the other ones, besides the mapping and such, if they have some amazing maps it could turn out better, like the halo 1 and halo 2 maps were getting kind of bored as you play then like 10 million times,

...i am glad that they're bringing back the assault rifle it's way better than the smg's

the games were great and all, just wasnt what i thought i was going to live up to, now all this mumbo jumbo coming about halo 3, it may also not live up to the expectation i thought i could, but i could also

i still think resistance is greater than any of the 360 FPS out there so far

The "Shooter of 2007" thread posted the other day pretty much proves your assumption will be correct. Personally I've never really cared for Halo. Me and purple snail-elephants don't mesh. It's all a bit too....alien for my taste. And the indoor levels were just crap. Should've designed the whole game to take place outdoors.

I dont understand your point. Zelda sells well because its a good game. Halo 2 hasn't sold amazingly on the PC, but not exactly poorly either. Both are good games and so sell. How does that make them invinceable?

I don't expect Crysis to outsell Halo 3, especially in the first few months but, I also don't expect Halo 3 to crush Crysis in overall sales. If Halo 2 sold 9 million so far, and FarCry sold around 3.5 million (was barely hyped and had major competition with Doom 3 and Half-life 2) I have big expectations with Crysis. The fact that it is Vista's main killer app (Microsoft proposed it as Vista's "Halo") means it will be getting large marketing along with the help of the juggernaut that is EA.

You have to remember that the original Half-Life outsold both Halos so far. Crysis could be a surprise phenomenon just like Half-Life.

Sales wise. Nope.

Multiplayer. Nope.

Single player, yes I think so. Bioshock comes to mind.
