I would have to say the honor goes to Nintendo. In terms of quality games over and over it has to be them. Along with that, they are very innovative and take chances. There are the occasional casual titles, and rehashes (Nintendogs, and mario party), but when it comes to major games Nintendo always brings the best.

There are no other companies as large as Nintendo that brings the number of great games each year as Nintendo. But developers like Epic are also doing a very good job. Hopefully they can make Unreal Tournament as good as Gears. Too bad they dont develope for the Wii.

I also have to add Bliizzard just because Starcraft 2 looks amazing. As well as Capcom for showing support to the Western market. And Finally Bethesda. They get overlooked but they are definately one of the best RPG makers. In terms of both Western and japanese RPGs.

I would say Lucasarts has some of the best consistancy when it comes to games. Almost all of the games they made are at least playable and most are pretty fun.

I'm having high hopes for Crytek though :)

Stellar Stone, for their amazing work on Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. A game of truly unbelievable quality.

Being serious now, I have to say Irrational Games (Now 2K Boston/2K Australia, I guess), and Valve. Irrational for System Shock 2, Tribes: Vengeance, and of course BioShock (and hopefully System Shock 3). Valve for, of course, Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Counter Strike, Team Fortress 2, and Portal.

I'd say Valve, Relic and Infinity Ward.
All three studios have developed amazing games.
Granted, other developers have as well, for example Blizzard and Epic, but these three studios are the developers of my favourites. (Half-Life, Homeworld/Dawn of War/Company of Heroes, Call of Duty, respectively)

I would say Westwood Studios as well as I love the C&C series, but they're no longer around. Thought I'd give them a mention.

meh Ninty was good when they were actually keeping pace with industry standards. They haven't made a game in the last decade that's even slightly interested me. I'm just sick of their candy-coated bubble gum flavored crap. I wish they could have matured with me as a developer, but they insist on catering to that part of the market which is comprised mainly of children and grown people with developmental issues.THETRUEDOZAH

I disagree with the part of "grown people with developemental issues". If the only way you feel like an adult is by shooting someone in a videogame than you have a lot of self esteem issues.

As far as nintendo goes, why would they want to alienate their core audience by making violent titles. Just look at Rare. They made a pretty descent game in Viva Pinata, but it did not sell well b/c they do not have the proper demographics for the type of game they make.

And nintendo can continue to make as many "candyy-coated bubble gum flavored crap" as they want. Especially because they are all million+ sellers, that are often AAA's.

Nintendo over the years have gone downhill drastically. Games are becoming shorter and easier. It depends what kind of genre you like, if you're into shooters, Ubisoft are fantastic. If you're into platformers... Nintendo are still the king... although Rareware's Banjo game could surprise....but they really butchered Perfect Dark.... If you like racing... I suppose the teams behind Forza and Gran Turismo are some of the best... it depends what genre you're talking about.

There are many great companies out there but the 3 companies that really stand out as putting that extra effort into all their games are Valve, Blizzard, and Nintendo

i'm not trying to say that playing FPS's, Action, and Racing are the only games 'real men' play. I've just got to question the mental integrity of an adult who could stomach a pokemon game, or a mario party, or any number of the ADD-intensive experiences typified by Wario Ware, Wii Sports, ect.

IMO Rare's 360 gameshave donepoorly because they aren't quality. You can't say PD0 didn't appeal try to appeal to the shooter-centric fanbase, it just wasn't a good enough game. Viva Pinata or Kameo probably should have been released on a Nintendo system, where it would have stood out as an exceptional example of what lame derivitave garbage primarily constitutes a Nintendo system's library. games that caters to the person that could best be described as having 'bad taste'.

And what was the last AAA Nintendo game? Wario Ware, Wiitard edition? Yeah, i'll pass on that. Itis a matter of aesthetics, and I've found Nintendo's games to be seriously underwhelmingsince the SNES days.As for me, the only Wii game i'm remotely interested in could probably be done just as well on aGBA (fire emblem).

I agree that a bunch of stuff released by Nintendo is garbage, but Wario Ware was a title that allowed people to use the wii remote in new ways. And as far as "bad taste", yea it would look like that if you only mention wii sports, and pokemon. But you are conviently forgetting, Zelda, Mario, Metroid, and Smash...

Twilight Princess = 50-60 hours. Metroid Prime 3 = 15-20 hours.

Sega for the OLD 2D Sonic games and Virtual Fighter series.

Team Ninja for the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive series.

EDIT: I love arguments! I would like to say respect Nintendo but their games are overrated. And could anyone get mixed up called Zelda a RPG? And I think Blizzard is overrated too. But is it true that their RTS games are direct rip offs of Warhammer/40K? :P

Yes lets compare Shooters that focus on both single player and multiplayer to a single player game and an adventure game.

Not to mention GRAW is a lot longer than 6 hours (GRAW2 is what your talking about) and COD4 isn't even out yet. Gears of War is in no means 10 hours (6) and Halo 3is about 10.

Ok, then how about Tomb Raider Legend? 6-7 hours? How about Kameo? Less than 10 hours. Splinter Cell? Same.

As for shooters, Half-Life 2 is 15-20 hours, and Far Cry (the original PC version) was 20 hours. BioShock is the only console FPS of the past few years that I can think of that has a reasonably long campaign, and that's because it was primarily PC-developed. The others have no excuse for dipping below two digits in campaign length (except one major reason, which I will not mention here, because it opens up another side of "next-gen" gaming that lemmings and cows alike don't want to face).

Level 5 may not be as big as some of these other developers but they never fail to impress me.
