But each level of Yoshi's Island is excellent and kicks the shit out of Super Mario World's levels in terms of design.
In what sense?
I ask because I'm genuinely curious in what way Yoshi's Island kicks the shit out of the levels in Mario World? It can't just be variety, because while agree Yoshi's Island is straight up fucking excellent, some of this thread is straight up downplaying how excellent the original Mario World itself is. Which sure weak bosses (in both games for that matter) aside, the actual level design, core platforming, music, and feel of that game is top notch.
I don't know, the NSMB series copied its style and added plenty of bells and whistles which makes Mario World kind of bland game to play these days. It's a great game worth playing, but in no way is it an essential must-play in my eyes.
Yoshi's Island is a top notch experience. It's a visual orgasm combined with excellent gameplay that really doesn't have a worthy succesor that managed to surpass it.
