BBC iPlayer is finally available to download on Xbox One today, the corporation has confirmed to Eurogamer.

Merry Christmas.

The app is available to download now, and weighs in at 46.22MB.

It arrives the same day that the BBC has extended the limit of time you can download and watch shows offline - from 7 to 30 days - on PC, mobile and tablets.

iPlayer's Xbox 360 version was also delayed, due to Microsoft's long-standing (and as of this spring, now defunct) policy of locking apps behind the Xbox Live Gold paywall - something which contradicted the BBC's public-funded remit.

"TV is undoubtedly king at Christmas - and the arrival of BBC iPlayer on Xbox One gives viewers even more choice on how they watch," BBC iPlayer boss Dan Taylor-Watt explained.

"And 30 day downloads arrives just in time for those unwrapping new devices, perfect for catching up on the bumper Christmas schedule."

better late than never. but yea, its been on playsatation platforms for a while already. some business stuff behind the scenes probably, who knows. still good for Xbox owners though.

You need to be using a UK IP address to access the iPlayer.

That was only good when it was Sky Go, now they have nowtv they have killed off Sky Go on most of the platforms. Now TV sucks ass you have to pay 6.99 for a few channels, very limited episodes from box sets and like 7.99 a day for Sky sports. Sky Go was free (as part of the Sky package) gave you a bunch of channels including Sky Sports as long as it was subscribed to. That was like Sky multiroom for free, but you could also do it at a different household.

BBC has its moments... I like'em.

Still waiting for 4OD on PS4 to be honest. That's got classic stuff like Darkplace and Father Ted.

I don't know why any long-suffering lemming significant other would want to watch their shows on a tiny box in the corner of the screen while the lem of the house stares at a matchmaking screen.
