So it seems that initial teaser has been dialed back. Nothing since has even recalled back to it. Will they get credit for it from angry gamers?

Still torn on whether or not to buy this or Fallout 76. BF5 beta wasn't very impressive and it seems most of the content they talked about during their reveal announcements are going to be "coming soon" by launch day but I've heard good things about the changes they've made since beta.

Yeah the community seems to have turned around. Latest info by DICE has been really liked. And they definitely turned back the whackiness, which imho fitted more with a f2p Battlefield Heroes-type game.

The content added since BETA is actually insane. There is tons of content compared to the BETA :)

@R4gn4r0k: Content wasn't my issue with the beta. The gameplay was just a bit bad.

Though I wasn't as sold on the beta as say Battlefield 1's BETA, I still really liked the changes and improvements they added: The game feeling more tactical, the fortificiations system, tank-, plane- & sniperplay requiring more skill.

I just didn't play much because squadding up and joining with friends was absolutely broken.

What were your gripes with the beta ?

I don't know man, looks like BF1 again. Already played that and it didn't take long to bore me. I'll pass.

My reaction from the beta wasn't good. But, we will see how the reviews and initial reports come in over time. Probably will wait til a sale though at least.

It does improve on Battlefield 1's systems, like the excellent Operations game mode.

There are also a lot of new aspects like improved gunplay, more tactical gameplay and enhanced mobility of your soldier.

As a big fan of BF 1 I'm a huge fan of these changes, though the new systems definitely make the game harder (grabbing health, ammo, being revived are all a LOT harder)

NDA has lifted so reviews are out today.

There is also a lot of gameplay being published right now by youtubers like Westie, Jackfrags and Flakfire. Be sure to have a look.

@vagrantsnow: Fallout 76 has had a lot of very bad press regarding it's beta, though. I've heard so many negative things from story to gameplay to performance etc.

Looking forward to it! Will be nice being back in the modern['ish] era; BF1 was fun and a nice change, but a bit "old" for me (that's just my preference, though, still a great game).

I thought the changes to classes and gameplay were nice, makes it feel a bit more "sim-like" without being an actual sim like ArmA.

Will be interesting to see how I do with the Battle Royale mode, seeing as how I've avoided BR up to this point (no fortnite, no PUBG, no COD BLOPSIV)

@R4gn4r0k: The weapon/class balance was all over the place. Assault was good at everything and had that crazy OP StG while the other 3 classes meandered around mid-low usefulness. The Enfield could only do 55 damage max without headshot which in most cases, wasn't even enough damage to kill an injured enemy.

First person tank controls were horrendous. Having to constantly drag the mouse across the mat for small turns of the turret. Most of the time I had to switch to third person view just to turn the turret smoothly.

Planes felt like flying cows.

Forced TAA. No other Anti Aliasing options or the choice to turn TAA off. Made the game look really blurry.

A lot of missing features like body dragging and bullet pen. Pretty much no destruction on Rotterdam.

Couldn't customise in game. Had to leave server to make changes to character/weapons

Other small things like automatic bipods that take forever to set up, slow weapon switching, weapon specialisations being straight upgrades, lighting blowout bug that has been in every Frostbite game.

---

All in all the beta just didn't feel like it was even close to being ready for release and just wasn't very fun to play. However I know they have worked on a lot of these issues since the beta which has attracted my interest again. I still don't think the game is ready for release with so much content and features not being available at launch but I'm still interested in giving it a chance.

@XVision84: yeah, I haven't heard the best of things about it either so I'm torn between the two at the moment. I just got a beta code so I'll at least be able to give the beta a try later tonight. Might be the decision maker for me.

I think you and I are of the same mind. Though I'm a bit more hyped than you I think :P

But yeah all of the issues you listed in the beta I can get behind. And I was also scared that the game would NOT be ready at all in October, so I'm glad they postponed it.

And honestly the post launch content looks nice. We are getting new stuff each month: new modes (coop, battle royale), new maps and new weapons.

Can't wait to start my journey ^_^

Hahaha, this will be my first Battle Royale experience as well

Though I think I'll still play operations, rush and frontlines more :D

And yeah, the time period is a huge difference between BF 1 and BF V. WW1 for example had very few tanks, while WWII had loads of tanks. So I'm glad they are doing faction specific tanks now. Tigers vs Churchills, oh yeah !

There are plenty of Frostbite games I like:

- Fifa
- Battlefield series
- Need For Speed series
- Mirror's Edge Catalyst, not great but still fun

Not only does a game like Battlefield 1 look and sound amazing, it has very fast loading times and great netcode. So I couldn't be happier with Frostbite.

It is going to be so good. That ray tracing though.... LOL.

No ray tracing at launch and still not a single game that has it or DLSS. Jensen Huang may just be the greatest snake oil salesman ever.

My time with the beta was overwhelmingly boring, and this is coming from a BF guy. I'm sorry R4gn4r0k, as an EA Premier member, I couldn't bring myself to push the button. The beta didn't drew me in as I hope it would, it's BF Hardline all over again. Dice wasn't even trying this time around. Dice, what happened to you guys?

I don't need to imagine good games from EA, I play them regularly. The classics like BF1942 and BF2 never had campaigns and featured expansion packs too. Sure, I don't like some of their practices, but to say they don't make good games is silly.

Would an RTX card run this game better without ray tracing ? (higher FPS)

Ray tracing on the weapons and water looked insane to me, but reflections on cars and train carts looked a bit off :/

Patch notes from BETA to full release are a whopping 135 pages of text.

Yes, the ray tracing requires the use of the RT cores which are a bottleneck. You will get much better performance if you disable ray tracing and only use rasterization.

Games without ray tracing will be unthinkable in about 5 years. But for now I'll sit this one out.

Buying a GTX 1080ti was the most money I've ever spent on a graphics card lol, I won't be buyin another any time soon.

But I need that 1080ti because I want 120fps at my current res ^^

Going to have to lower settings at 3440x1440 if you want 120fps. I was usually averaging 80-100fps on Ultra during the BFV beta with my 1080 Ti. That is why I upgraded to 2080 Ti. Need to get as close to 120fps as possible. :)

The campaign will be shit just like BF1. War Stories was a joke. Poor mission designs with pre-rendered cut-scenes attempting to give relevancy. It was pathetic. BF3 and BF4 campaigns were decent, but they totally half-assed BF1 campaign.

Indeed similar results to me.

I dunno.. I use to love Battlefield, but I just feel the franchise has gotten incredibly stale. The Beta maps were small and boring.... not the Battlefield I use to love. I kinda liked the resource limitations though.

I can't trust Critic reviews.. they never analyse a game for its long-term value... they won't mention the design of the maps, or the scale of the bigger ones, or the game balance.

average critic review - Herp derp game is either pretty or not pretty, immersive cutscenes make me wet "I CAN PLAY IT WITHOUT TOO MUCH THOUGHT" - 9/10 "Masterpiece"

I enjoyed the beta, but I agree that the 2 maps featured in the beta were small and heavily infantry focused. There are bigger maps in the full game and of course the Firestorm (battle royale) map will be huge.

Understandable, Rotterdam and Narvik didn't wow me like Sinai Desert did in the BF1 beta;

But from what I've seen Twisted Steel and Hamada look absolutely huge. Like BF1942 level huge.

I really hope they improved the campaign over Battlefield 1, I really wasn't a fan of that one.

@BassMan: I enjoyed BF1's campaign... so each to their own.

Going to have to lower settings at 3440x1440 if you want 120fps. I was usually averaging 80-100fps on Ultra during the BFV beta with my 1080 Ti. That is why I upgraded to 2080 Ti. Need to get as close to 120fps as possible. :)

Alpha ran really bad for me. I had to lower my resolution on a GTX1070 and it made things look really blurry. That was a hard wake up call for me :/

Beta ran better but I always had huge framedrops when entering a match. I'm guessing Battlefield V will run similar, perhaps a bit worse than BF 1. But that game ran crazy good. 120 fps was no problem at all.

A pity they don't care about Star Wars Battlefront as much as Battlefield.

Funny that in 2013 everyone thought that DICE was the right developer for SW Battlefront games while they turned out to be the most non- appropriate . They make Battlefront games like a noob developer.

True that. I had to think back of the Star Wars mod for Battlefield 1942 when I first heard of DICE developing Battlefront, which was amazing.

Even the class system in SWBF II sucked so much I couldn't believe this was coming from DICE. When they absolutely nail the class system in their battlefield games.

But it's the design philosophy behind the Battlefront games that turned them into complete turds (well, I still like the first one...). EA never set out to make great games, they set out to make cash cows.

@R4gn4r0k: I guess it's due to this that they fear that Battlefront games rival their own franchise.

I blame Disney that didn't really know how they should have handled Star Wars video games.(Like the way they mishandled a lot of things of Star Wars for the past years which resulted in dividing the Star Wars community.)

Heh, I think most people were excited when Disney bought Lucas and announced another Star Wars movie the same day.

But it turns out that Star Wars is much more than a movie series, it's a whole subculture and EA and Disney are seeing a lot of potential to make lots of money

Personally think it's a crime how there hasn't been a singleplayer Star Wars like KOTOR, Jedi Knight, Republic Commando or Empire at War yet from EA.

Shouldn't even have a campaign. Focus on the definitive war mp experience like BF1942 and BF2.

hmm, if it's an afterthought than sure, skip the campaign.

But when there is effort behind it I do like a campaign. I replayed through Battlefield 3&4 recently and I really enjoyed Battlefield 3s campaign, it still has a lot of standout moments.

I'm pretty sure BF V singleplayer mode doesnt take resources away from it's multiplayer mode, which looks absolutely filled with content.

@vagrantsnow:

fallout 76 is broken and lack luster game that will be bug ridden at release its not worth $60. The Bf5 Beta was a hell of alot better than 76's beta.

@R4gn4r0k: I'm playing Mirror's Edge the Catalyst for now and it's the first time I'm playing this series, awesome game with nice visuals. I'll download BFV this weekend but all I really care is the campaign mode then the MP. I'll let you know how it all turns out later this weekend.

I've never really enjoyed a BF campaign. Come to think of it, I've never really liked the multiplayer either...

I agree that the BF1 campaign was very meh. It bored me to tears every time I tried to play through it. Only COD Ghosts gave me that feeling of their campaigns.

Except if you have EA/Origin access. You can play it now
