Over £400 ($600) would be considered as expensive, but I bought the PS3 at launch because of a significant feature it has; Blu-ray.
Anything above $399 is too much. Any game above $49 is too much (unless I deem it as okay)ShadowDeathX
$400 = £250.
Really? I personally think it's too low. Think about the hardware. You don't want a crap hardware, do you?
I pade full price for a 60gb PS3, and even paid for repairs on that one after YLoD and a replacement a couple of years later. Similar tale with the Xbox, but with less up front and more in repairs.
I've spent WAY too much damn money on systems, I can't control how reliable they are next gen, but $400 is the max limit for me now, especially since 2006 was a time when the economy didn't go down the crapper yet and slowly, slowly build up.
I think Microsoft may be onto something with their subsidized console sales scheme. I mean, we do the same thing with cell phones, which are infinitely less useful than a complete home entertainment system(at least the PS3 was). So why not with consoles?
Yes, over time it costs more, but the buy in is so cheap that it will simply be to tempting to pass up for Joe Consumer.
When are people gonna realize people game on consoles by choice? When are people gonna realize that there are games on consoles that you can;t get on PC and those console games resonate with certain people more than what the PC offers?
I don't know. I'd say it totally depends on what's in the box. I would give up PC gaming and buy a $1500 console if it was something truly spectacular.
The PS3 was way too expensive and overpriced when it released though. Both the Cell and the BD were only jacking up the price without being useful (for games). If I buy an expensive console I want state of the art stuff, things that really matters like a high end GPU (680 or 690 GTX) coupled with the latest Intel CPU.
is there a limit to console price because consoles are not upgradable? to me its too expensive when the cost of the console is above my price range and/or the gaming library is not up 2 par. i don't want to pay for a console only to play 3 games...its why i didn't buy the wii despite it being cheap
Above £350 is too expensive, i usually dont plunge til 2 years into a gen by that time theres a price drop and i've nearly wrapped up my usual backlog of games from the previous gen :P
Im just curious as we close in on the launch of the WiiU and are a little over a year away from the supposed launch of the next XBOX and PS, I was wondering at what point are any of simply going to say that consoles are too expensive and switch over to PC gaming? For me personally, I will not ever pay more than $399 for any console. That being said, I dont see any way that MS and Sony can possibly release their respective new consoles to compete against gaming PC's at a consumer friendly price. Im betting that each of these consoles will retail at a minimum of $499 and that will blow up in their faces. What are your thoughts?? ShoTTyMcNaDeSI personally wouldn't go above £200.
