From IGN:

"The next game from Rocksteady, developer of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, could be out as soon as next year if job listings are any indication.

A new Kotaku report from Internet sleuth Superannuation highlights the similarities between certain Rocksteady job postings on its own website and those on a joblistingwebsite. That's significant because those on the latter site don't mention Rocksteady by name, but they do peg its location as being in the United Kingdom. (Rocksteady is based in London.) What's most notable in the latter listings is the following claim, mentioned in each of the three, albeit in slightly reworded fashion: "[O]ur current project has been tipped to be one of the most successful games of 2014."

One of the listings describes the game as "an extremely ambitious AAA 3rd Person/Action Adventure Game." Batman isn't mentioned by name, but Superannuation notes that the Arkham prequel rumored last year could have, in fact, been the recently released Arkham Origins. That game was developed by Warner Bros. Games Montreal and not Rocksteady, which has been at work on an unannounced project since releasing Arkham City in 2011.

In other words, it's possible Rocksteady's project is another Arkham game. The existence of such a game was confirmed earlier year by Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy, who did not return to his longtime role for Arkham Origins as Roger Craig Smith took the reigns. Despite this, Conroy claimed at one point that he was working "on the next Arkham," a statement he soon after clarified by explaining that he is in a new Arkham game that is not Arkham Origins. Whether or not this new game was being developed by Rocksteady was never clarified, but it now certainly appears possible.

Considering the dip in quality with Arkham Origins, would you be happy with Rocksteady returning for another go at the Arkham series? Or would you prefer to see what it could do with something else, be it a new IP or an existing one? Let us know what you'd like to see from Rocksteady in the comments."

LINK

Honestly not surprised at all. It will have been 3 years since Arkham City, and like the article said, Conroy already confirmed as much

Origins was so disappointing. Looking forward to the next "real" batman game! :D

I was hoping they were working on a new IP, they should stop with the Arkham games before it turns into the next Assassins Creed

I hope it is a true next gen game instead of a multiplat for all.

If that's the case, they better think of some bold new direction for the franchise... right now, I'm playing Arkham Origins, and while I disagree with the review here on GS, I'll still admit the series is starting to lose its charm while becoming stale.

Oh ffs, let it go guys. Move onto something else. I'd be very disappointed if Rocksteady box themselves into this one IP. Surely not.

I'm just sick of seeing good ideas being bled to death. It was great a few years ago. Lets just be satisfied by that.

They should just make a spider game now, so much potential.

I'm not sure about them assassin's creeding Batman (yearly releases). I consider Arkham City the greatest game to release in the past generation, but

a) that's a game that is insanely hard to top (it might all be downhill from there)

b) they should only make another if they truly have great new ideas that will add to the series in a meaningful way.

I hope we see games from Rocksteady in the future that include more characters from the DC universe, especially other characters from the JLA. I'd love to see how they handle Wonder Woman, Superman and The Flash, and how their Batman would interact with them.

I'm tire of series. They need to overhaul entire system and gameplay. Fighting is ok but everything to running to using gadget needs streamline.

I would rather they not crank out another sequel so early. I like the uniqueness and quality of the Batman Arkham series, and kind of want to see it intact.

Please, please, PLEASE don't milk the Joker anymore.

He died in Arkham City. Warner Bros. responded to that with "Oh, let's just make a prequel, and then we'll make it seem like Black Mask was the villain, when it was really just The Joker all along!"

There are sooooo many other awesome Batman villains to develop as central antagonists.

Hope that's not true. Rocksteady should adapt Cowboy Bebop. Or do something that's not another Arkham.

What are you talking about? The gadgets are a breeze to use once you remember which key they're bound to.

I know Origins isn't Silver Age, but I believe that rumor ended up being Origins. Either way, I can't wait to see what Rocksteady has been working on since Arkham City.

@princeofshapeir: Haha so true on the milking thing.

It's not easy to make a better central villain than the Joker though when it comes to Batman. He is honestly one of the only villains who feels like a major antagonist aside from Ra's Al Ghul, (invincible for the most part, and has the whole mystical thing going for him) considering he's one of the only ones who tend to play on their mental strengths, unlike the strong arms like Killer Croc and such. He has a more dimensional profile in comparison imo.

The version of Bane from the movies would also be a really cool central villain as well compared to the dumb brutish one in the series.

Well it had a hint to the next game in Arkham Origins

Death squad game, or a deathstroke game.

I'd be happy if the next game was strictly next gen systems and PC.

the old Unreal engine's getting a bit long in the teeth at this point. For one, actually having the entirety of gotham available to you at any time would be marvelous, along with any surrounding countryside.

You know, if they actually made a Batman Beyond game, it could actually breathe fresh air into the franchise

If they ever did go the yearly release route then I would expect them to alternate between Bruce & Terry.

I'd just like to see a good Beyond themed game at some point in the future.

How about wait until 2015 and release a Batman Man of Steel crossover? This could be the first good Superman game PLUS it would release near the movie and get tons of attention.

@ AznbkdX

The Joker's transition from Comic Book to video game villain was absolutely terrible, he literally brought absolutely nothing unique to to the Arkham City experience. Seriously missed oppertunity.

Yeah, atleast if they wana milk it, they should put some effort into it. The batman universe is massive and changing it up to the future timeline would open new possibilities for gameplay but you know how it goes these days, cannot take that much risk

I thought Rocksteady was working on other superhero games.

And I was personally hoping they were making a 4-player cooperative TMNT game set to the same style as Batman. That'd be sexcellent

its time to let Batman go. Would be nice if we can get a new super hero game.

In fact, it would be better if they ditched Marvel and DC all together and start considering lesser known heroes

Shadowhawk, Spawn, invincible, savage dragon...and this is just image alone.

The darkness was a good attempt but we need more and I'd like to see the kind of magic rocksteady can breath into these titles

I think people are ready to graduate from the big name comic book mascots.
