3D gaming on PS3 to require 3D glasses and a 3D TV,really Sony??!!!

Really,this is practically unviable,I mean,how could you expect people who've just recently upgraded to HDTV's to hit their wallets AGAIN to buy 3D TV's for gaming? Couldn't Sony just find another way? Or at least delay 3D gaming on PS3 till it's more viable?

Well duh of course it will require Glasses but you really dont need an 3D TV, i hear some HDTV's can actually do 3D but not as good as the actual 3D TV's.. its not Sony's fault, i u want true 3D gaming/watching movies then u need the 3D Tv's.. if not then stick to your HDTV.. simple.. no need to blame them.

This is by no way manditory and many people think 3D sucks because it dulls the colors, gives a lot of people headaches and can be quite distracting. Even if I had the option to game in 3D I would maybe only for a little bit until I got sick and tired of it and went back to playing games normally. This doesn't mean that the people who do have TV's capable of displaying in 3D should be punished because most of the world doesn't have 3D tv's.

How is this news?? It's been known from the start... anyway, I might check 3D once the tvs are cheaper.

I just hope they don't focus most of their resources in this 3D crap that only 2% of PS3 owners can enjoy and instead focus on the games themselves.

I think its awesome that i wont need to buy a 3D blu-ray player. Thanks to sony :)

At least the option is there. Just wait till you fancy upgrading your HDTV. The tech will be more developed and prices will less.

I don't know why TC is all bent out of shape? Since when did Sony, or ANYBODY for that matter, even mention that you would be able to utilize the 3d aspect without the glasses and a 3d tv? Seriously show me ONE article that says this, I DARE YOU.

There ARE 3d tv's capable of producing the 3d image WITHOUT glasses. The problem with these tv's is EVERY pixel has to be polarized seperately(at least that's my understanding of it) and these tv's are still in the $40,000 range. But LCD tv's were the same price when they hit the market and a year later they were affordable. Don't dive into 3d just yet, give it a few more years and you wont even need the glasses for the same price and some new technology will be on the rise:P

Umm... you know that 3D gaming is just an option. It's not like Sony is forcing you to buy a new system to get 3D.

You know that you're going to have to buy a 3DTV and subscribe to a 3D package from your satellite/cabler operator to get ESPN3D right?

Isn't it just a HDTV with higer frequency combined with ( now liquid crystal ) shutterglasses , something already used all trough the 90's on PC only now suddenly on TV's instead of 100HZ + CRT monitors and paired trough bluetooth instead of cable's .

AKA old stuff sold to you again as teh brand new tech !

This will fail, nobody who bought new HD set in the last few yrs will want to upgrade so soon, I hope to get as long as I can out of mine. It's a pioneer and cost a lot, and a crappy Sony Bravia with 3D will not tempted me, there quality isn't any good

There's no reason to be upset. Anybody with even half a brain who understands how 3'd works, would know that this is the only way without making PS3 games look like the PS2's. You visit System Wars too much and sites like Gamespot where false information is handed out daily. Educate yourself a little bit.

Either way, even if it is a slow adoption (much like HDTV was) then you still need to start somewhere. People like to hold on to TV's until they die a slow painful death, so 3D could take a few years to really get into full swing.

This is what I still don't get about the 3D "revolution". You still need to wear glasses to watch or play anything in 3D on these $3000 TVs or on the enhanced PS3. I can do that now with a movie, and a pair of red / blue anaglyph glasses, or a pair of the plastic polorized ones. Why the heck would I want to throw $3000 into a TV and then have to buy shuttered glasses for $200?. I'll wait for the autostereoscopic 3D TVs to come out in like 5 years. I'd rather not strain my eyes by playing games for 5 hours with those stupid glasses on.
