Easy!
Casual Gamers don't spend a good portion of their life playing video games
Hardcore Gamers do.
Accessibility is a different issue. Casual gamers don't neccesarily have to suck at games. I think the media has this wrong. The WII is as accessible to Casual gamers as the PS3.
However, the Wii is more accessible to Begginer gamers then the PS3 is. I think we should start defining by accessibility to begginers and advanced gamers.
The X360 is probably more accessible to Begginer gamers then the PS3 just due to its more well known software library. However, I don't think its a huge difference.
The Wii and DS cater to a WIDE range of gaming abilities and needs. The x360, PS3, and PC narrow down the niches.
No, hardcore gaming is not about how much time you spend playing games, it's about looking for depth, originality, story, etc, in the games you play, and not just what is "popular" (although many games do become popular because they are very good). Hardcore gaming is not about just looking for the cheapest console with the most games, but instead it's about looking at the quality of the games. I thought hardcore was more about challenges, competitiveness, thats why the first ninja gaiden was considered hardcore
