I agree with a lot of this. Free online-something microsoft will never offer, exclusives like uncharted, and bluray, there's really no denying that the PS3 is the best ever made. This author shares my thoughts exactly...who could disagree?

Ken Kutaragi is the reason the PS3 wasn't that great. $599, useless Cell, not securing enough exclusives (ie Assassin's Creed, GTAIV, Final Fantasy), hyping the system up way too much, many stupid comments...

Yeah, I'm thinking the PS2 was way better than the PS3 and I enjoyed the 360 more than the PS3, too. As pointed out, the PS3 just got off to an AWFUL start. That it remained in third place even after the RROD scandal is telling. The high price, the lackluster games and stupid gimmicky controller (Lair and Six Axis, oh god), the rumble nonsense. . hell, the whole hacking incident! And, yes, the loss of many of its most famous exclusives (like Grand Theft Auto and Final Fantasy, for instance; in fact, I'd say these were deadly blows).AncientDozer

People that think the Xbox One is getting blasted forget about what happened to the PS3. The PS3 was just demolished after E3 2006.

- Delays, after delays, after delays (supposed to launch March 2006, gets delayed to November 2006, then Europe launch is delayed to March 2007)

- Cell is confusing to develop for, and not any better than a regular Power PC chip

- Not only that, but the Cell was super expensive. Even though the Blu-Ray player was expensive, it could've still launched at $399 if Sony didn't include the Cell

- Sony treated western devs like crap, even sending them devkits with Japanese manuels, and when the devs asked for help Sony said "too bad!"

- The boomerang controller mess

- Sony gets hardcore busted with their CGI videos

- PS3 gets gimped at E3 2006 compared to E3 2005

- Sony adds SuxAxis to PS3 controller (basically, copying Nintendo)

- Sony takes out rumble, claims it is a "last gen feature." Once they settle their lawsuit (the real reason it was kept out), rumble returns. "Last gen feature."

- ALl the games being cancelled, delayed

- Its games were getting horrible reviews for a long while

- The press KILLED it

THen you can't forget these goldies: "The Wii and Xbox 360 are too expensive." "People should get 2 jobs to get a PS3." "We could easily sell 5 million PS3s without any games." "The Wii has no backwards compatibility." "PlayStation 3 is too cheap."

Sony was kind of able to turn it around, by getting rid of Krazy Ken, but it was too late by then.

PlayStation Network - Only a positive because Microsoft charges for online.  Free should be the norm, IMO.

Non-gaming Apps - The Xbox 360 had this, the PC obviously has these, and you could even get Netflix on a Wii.

First Party Exclusives - This is a good point, but only because it had more than the 360.  It had fewer than the Playstation 2, even.  In the 7th generation, it came in 3rd out of 4 on platform exclusives.

Third Party Support - Everything except the Wii had third party support.  In fact, third party games tended to suffer on the PS3 because of the Cell processer.

Vita/ PSP Connectivity - No one cares.  Really, no one owns a Vita and the connectivity is actually very limited (although at least is is there)

PlayStation Plus - Are people looking for ways to give Sony and Microsoft their money?  You are better off not paying for PS+ if you are a multiplatform gamer.  PS+ is only for the most hardcore of hardcore Playstation fans.  Buy the games you want and you can keep them forever.

Dualshock Controller - The Dualshock 3 is horrible compared to the Xbox 360 controller.  Sixaxis is a gimmick that has hardly been used.  The construction was shoddy, the triggers were horrible, and the thumbsticks were sticky.  On the plus side, though, the Dpad was nice.

3D Support - Everything but the Wii played in 3D, and it was on a game by game basis on the 360 and PS3 anyways.  I can play any game I want on 3D on my PC.

Social Interactions - Yeah, the author is probably the only guy in the world who likes sharing his achievements and trophies on Facebook.

Blu-Ray - People still buy physical movies?

SNES for me. Best RPGs ever.

SNES and PS2 are probably the best systems ever made. Personally the SNES, N64 and DS are my fav though. 

The PS3 is not even near the top 5 lol. The fact that it forced you to update everytime you wanted to play the thing robbed it of that. Not to even mention the lack of games and 700$-$600 price tag it had for 2 years lol 

And the fact Sony lost money on the thing lol

I do honestly think that the full BC PS3 is the best console of All Time. But as a whole for every SKU, the PS2.

It's not the best the SNES and original and PS2 were better also the Genesis was a very awesome system too.

The first post is spot on, both the PS2 and the PS3, despite how good they were in their own right, stand on the foundation of breaktrhough original titles and creativity set by the PS1.

It has a vastly inferior library in raw quantity to its direct competitor of era, and future consoles. It certainly has loaded in games as the 360 and PS3 were, and the games have aged poorly to boot.

The PS2 and SNES's major hits are still relatively strong games(in the case of stuff like Yoshi's Island and Resident Evil 4, still absurdly excellent).

I agree with everything here, tho i'll have to make a correction - competitor(s), the Saturn shits on the N64. Many more equally quality games that aged better due to simplistic, solid controls and fluid framerate (unlike most N64 games). And this is besides the plethora of excellent 2D games.

As far as graphics go.. if you can appreciate a game based on the time and system it released on, then graphics are never a problem. Ofcourse, the framerate is besides this point of view i have, because that can be a pain in the ass to stand. But shitty graphics with good controls and a solid framerate? Never a problem with this mindset.

The best system ever would be the PS2 or the SNES....
