225 million dollars, yep, my kid is playing baseball. Forget hockey and football with their concussions.

Delusional Jays fans an their delusional thoughts that he'd "come home". Just shows we never would have been in it. Biggest contract for a non-FA Huge risk for the Reds for a couple reasons, but he has the ability to be an MVP candidate every year, and now maybe best 1B in NL with Albert and Prince gone. Probably will go down as best Canadian player ever. Still a ways to go. I hope he is, he's gone through a lot to get here.

Well, he is 28. In this day an age this is the price teams pay for franchise players. Is Votto a franchise player? Probably. ALL teams are (9 out of 10) keeping their young players. Philadelphia is riddle with heavy contracts and might not be able to sign Hamels to the deal he is looking for which should north of what Cain got: 5 years/112.5 mill.

I agree. That's how most teams build nowadays, minus Philly, NY and Boston. They got young guys, but go out and spend big a lot. A lot of teams are doing it right...Tampa, Toronto, KC, Indians, Washington, Atlanta, Cincy...all are young (at least I think so), and got great young players that will be around a long time.

Or boxing! MAke um take some grounders with their bare hands as kids and i'm sure they'll get good at it. I wonder what Jimenez had bad blood over with Tulo for that beaning.

Heading out to Marlins Park in a few minutes. As a lifelong Marlins fan, this is a special day for me and many other true loyal fans. Say what you will about the franchise, but I'm absolutely thrilled for a stadium I can actually be proud of... despite the ridiculous Homerun Celebration monstrosity in CF

Maybe I am just still being a Braves homer......but I don't understand all the hype over the Marlins. Their best starting pitcher is injury prone, and the star pickup in Jose Reyes is the same. I sort of understand for the Nats.....but I still think they are a year away from being really good.

Someone on baseball fever said "All it takes is Reyes to complain and that $5Million monstrosity is gone!" I seriously thought it popped up or at least spun around for that much money............should have just put a fake Marlin there that goes back and forth. Somebody also posted over there a picture from "Paint" showing a "Winter Classic" configuration in Marlins Park  and he wrote everything in Spanish on the walls "El Classico de el invierno" "Los Panteras De Miami" It's a real shame for the Rays though, the actual good team, what chance do they have to get a stadium now? Where would they possibly move to if they don't? Fans in Miami already say Parking is a nightmare, we will see if Air Conditioning really gets them out to the park, i've been on record as a doubter. Miami is full of bandwagons, even the heat have trouble with people showing up and on time, the Marlins aint the Heat! Did i mention Hanley is a cancer? You need to cut it before it spreads! Trade that guy! I have no problem with the lime green wall though, something different, but i don't understand how they don't have any Teal in the place...........where's the teal?!?!? The seats should have been teal, i know somebody had a petition for that a while ago.

Joey Bats? Why yes, yes he is. Such a loooooooong game. Ugh. Rajai Davis....don't look at your bunt. Nice to see the comeback though, did that tons last year (28 comeback wins). Bullpen looks pretty good so far. Still want to see Santos.

Finally looks like it'll be over. Arencibia 3 run HR. Wow.

They need to open the season on like a Tuesday, and have just about every team play on that day. There's no build up when there's no real 'opening day' or anything resembling it.

so I have a small fantasy problem... I have Ervin Santana in my line-up, but I really want to pick up Justin Masterson and drop him. A couple of my friends said they prefer Santana though, even though he has a higher career ERA, and I personally think he's inconsistent. I know Masterson hasn't really "proven" himself (last year was a bit of a breakout year though, 3.20 ERA, 216 IP), but I feel like he has ace potential. What do you guys think?

Well, who else you have on your roster? If you look at their numbers they are pretty similar down to their K/9. Justin has more upside but Santana might more reliable and he probably will win 15+ games, can't say the same for Justin.

Yanks and Sox 0-2 for the first time since 1980. Jays 2-0 after another extra innings game. Big game from Lawrie, and Morrow was brilliant. Never should have given up those 2 runs that he did.

Ozzie Guillen has been suspended for 5 games by The Marlins. He deserved the suspension if for nothing else being stupid, and completely unaware of his surrondings. Granted I think the reaction and people making the broad claim that he "praised" Fidel Castro, are a little over the top. Considering that he never said anything that praised Castro as a leader, and a president, but it still sounded pretty bad.

They wanted Ozzie Guillen, they got Ozzie Guillen.

On the bright side, this is the most interested anyone has been in the Marlins in years.

Hopefully they're allowed to move to San Jose sooner rather than later. Because really, who wants to go into Oakland in the first place, much less to that stadium.

Maybe more fans would support the team if they didn't trade away every great player they bring up.This offseason alone they traded their two aces. They traded away Carlos Gonzalez, Andrew Bailey, and the list goes on and on. They're the pirates of the AL, only difference is that they've brought up more talented players than the Pirates.

Not really. He does hit 100, but he hovers around that 94-97 range with his fastball. His breaking ball is the filthiest though.

Romero went 8.1....did what he had to do, the bullpen's been used a lot so far. Get a day off. And Santos finally gets a save.

It;s a good sign when Ricky completely dominates Boston. Sure hasn't done that in his career.

Hoorah, Verlander got a 100 MPH pitch... :D... that was wild, and allowed runs to be scored. Seriously, and this has been going on for years, our bullpen mostly sucks. Even Verlander took a spiral in the 9th.

Vmart not done for season?

Det. look to get a big pick up late in the season. They are a scary team.

-

T.O looking good. They had a solid hitting and run producing season last year, all they needed was some better defense. Cut out the errors, and they could win 90 easily.
