It's a bit sad and funny at the same time.

Really speaks to the immaturity of the players. If they don't learn from this they never will.

Granted, a lot of NFLers don't make big time bucks, they still make a great yearly salary. They should learn the difference between the words, Need and Want.

When they can differentiate between those words, they will not have to be in this situation.

I believe the NBA, and NFL both have an extremely high percentage of x-players that are broke. it's not as glamorous of a life as some of you would imagine it to be. People with access to lots of money, doesn't necessarily mean they know how to invest it in a constructive form.

The ignorance is this thread is a little amazing.

Read this article by Rick Reilly. Reilly usually sucks but he hit the nail on the head here. Most NFL players aren't Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, etc who make millions of dollars. Many NFL players make enough to have a good living but a year off of work would still effect them as much as it would effect most of us.

Don't buy that at all. If these people lived moderately they'd be set for life. Minimum salary for a NFL player is a lot of money.

Whats your point? Even a below average player gets paid six figures. If somebody cant survive on at least a hundred grand for a year they need to get their priorities straight.

As your income increases so does your standard of living. It's unfair to expect someone making 100,000 a year to live like someone making 40,000.

No it doesn't, that's completely false. If one is smart, they live moderately and save money. But no, they choose to spend money like it'll last forever.

What guy? There were 3 mentioned. All of them have different circumstances. Chad Hall for instance got picked up week 7 for the league minimum.

How old are you? No it's not complete false. Do you still live at home with your parents? Do you still ride the bus? Do you still eats nothing but raman noodles? If your salary doubled are you telling me you wouldn't want nicer things? You can't seriously be that naive.

29, not that it's any of your business. If you want to know more about my ife, im married and we live moderately, saving money, even though we make plenty of money. Just because someone makes 200k a year doesn't mean one should go crazy buying stuff. If they were more responsible, they wouldn't be in that situation. Especially since they knew there was a chance if work stoppage.

Greater risk goes with his job then anyone here (unless someone here is a coal miner or something). Also willing to bet he has a job with a lower job security than anyone here, too.

Yeah, actually it does. One of the main arguments for the former NFLPA and current NFLTA (NFL trade association) is the low average career length and the greater risk that they take then other professions. That is the reason the league minimum is higher then most professions. Take it however you wish.

No... it's not. Most NFL careers are over within the first 3 years. The league minimum increases the longer you are into the league. Since most careers are over in the first 3 years Rookies and first-year players $285,000 Second-year players $360,000 That is also assuming that they play all 16 games. Chad Hall got signed halfway into the season.

Ok so if this Chad Hall fellow played 8 games and was getting the second year rate, he still made 180,000 dollars. If he can't live on that, then he should probably get his priorities right. EVERYONE knew a lockout was imminent, and quite frankly inevitable. He should have been saving. No. Sympathy.

Really? That's the only possibility? It can't be that he wants to keep that money for retirement or investments, and needs a job that pays a fair amount to maintain his life style? Chad Hall isn't some College stud that got drafted in the first round and got more guaranteed cash then you or I can make in our life. Chad Hall served as a second lieutenant for the Air Force, went undrafted, and got signed to a team well into the NFL season.
