Source: The Hill

Canadians currently hold their lowest opinion of the United States in the last 35 years, according to a new survey.

The new poll, conducted by the Environics Institute for Survey Research (EISR) and published Monday by The Globe and Mail, found that 53 percent of Canadians hold either a somewhat or very unfavorable view of the U.S.

Forty-four currently hold a favorable view of the U.S., a big drop from a 2012 version of the same poll, when 68 percent of Canadians had a positive view of America.

“There’s been a dramatic change,” the EISR executive director Keith Neuman said.

Eighteen percent of Canadians said they were altering plans to visit the U.S. due to politics.

The EISR cites the “unexpected election of Donald Trump” for the “dramatic impact” on Canadians’ views of the U.S.

The poll was conducted by phone from April 3 to 15 and surveyed 2,002 Canadians. It has a margin of error of 2.2 percentage points.

Yikes! It went down as hard as Trumps' own approval ratings.

But I thought Trump would make improve America's standing in the world and make America Respected again.

Edit: During Obama's administration. The people actually had a positive view on the leadership. I dont know how it is now, but iirc, it was 10% approval, 80% disapproval.

You did say it yourself earlier. Obama made the US even less of a joke to most of the world, then Trump came and ruined it all.

Yup, he did, the g lobal perception of the US skyrocketed following the election.

And in case you missed the edit.

Anecdotal evidence but in my day to day life this is absolutely true.

It's not just Canadians though, the rest of the world's opinion on the US has gone down. This is bad because it will effect the amount of tourists, skilled workers, and students who would otherwise come to enrich the country if Trump wasn't the one occupying the oval office. It's already started with more and more international (even American) students applying to Canadian universities and US tourist money going down. The Trump Effect is real.

Yea, I had no idea that Canada didn't even have freedom of speech until last year. They're pretty screwed in terms of politics and seem to be heading down a dark path.

What next? Do we care about what Middle Eastern countries think of us?

Should we start banning freedom of speech so all these countries that don't appreciate our values like us more?

Did you know that a lot of people that use cuck over the internet are actually into that kind of porn? Not judging but its a weird word to use all the time.

This is wrong. It does have what Americans consider "freedom of speech", it just isn't called explicitly "freedom of speech". It is covered in Section 2 of what is essentially our Bill of Rights. Refer to Section 2 of the Canadian Charter of Rights & Freedoms.

2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:

(a) freedom of conscience and religion;
(b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;
(c) freedom of peaceful assembly; and
(d) freedom of association.

This is basic, basic stuff. I am perplexed why you would deliberately spread falsehoods that Canada doesn't have freedom of speech.

Canada is also doing very well, so I don't think you need to worry about us going down this so called "dark path". Have you ever been to Canada?

This would be a point that bothered me about the growing dislike for the US, especially living in a city that's as highly dependent on tourism as Vegas, but looking at the monthly numbers we seem to be doing better this year than we have the past 2 years. There was a little dip in February, but a great rebound in March and, from what I hear, we killed it in April. I still see all those Dutch wondering around on the strip and in our malls so I guess I can thank them and the Chinese for the great year Vegas is having. Dank je!

Well I can't speak for Vegas specifically but the so-called "Trump Slump" seems to be a thing in a macro sense. I guess we will see in the coming months just how much impact it has had.

The irony is that he is supporting THE leader that is probably the most anti-free speech in the entire western world.

Hell, his stance on the press is disturbingly similar to Erdogan.

Not once have I ever said Maher or Colbert should be censored, but I appreciate the sentiment. It's not Maher or Colbert but people on the right are the ones who have to worry more about censorship unfortunately, not just by the government (in Canada) but also by peers. Freedom of speech simply isn't valued as a principle in Canada. (or by many in America).

I grew up across the river from Sarnia(chemical valley). I really don't care what Canadians think after what they did and are currently doing to the environment. We have Native Americans dying of cancer, fish that we can't eat and old shoes in our parking lots. All thanks to our hat.

Freedom of Speech, right.

You just got to love it. Trump wanted the media he loathes to run an ad for his first 100 days praising his glory while also predictably calling them "FAKE NEWS". Shocker of the century, they don't run it, and what does the Trump team say in response? Yup, they actually attempt to frame it as a constitutional issue and mention the First Amendment:

Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of the President and his consultant said in a press release: “Apparently, the mainstream media are champions of the First Amendment only when it serves their own political views."

Faced with an ad that doesn't fit their biased narrative, CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC have now all chosen to block our ad. This is an unprecedented act of censorship in America that should concern every freedom-loving citizen."

Seriously? It is censorship sure, but that has nothing to do with freedom of speech or our rights as Americans whatsoever.....the media are privately owned entities, they are under no obligation to run propaganda or anything they don't wish to, much less when it's attacking their integrity. Did Trump honestly think those attacked would broadcast this? How stupid and clueless can he possibly be?

No, please stop, it is freedom of speech. It is codified in the Charter. But that doesn't mean the right is absolute and just like in the US every right has reasonable limits attached to it. If you yell "FIRE!" or something like that in a movie theatre, for example, that "hurts people's feelings", you will get a lot more than a fine.

Can you please provide proof of "Many Canadians move to America for free expression?" I've lived here for almost 3 decades and have never heard of anyone doing that. Have you ever been here or left the US?

Uh no. Shouting fire in a crowded theater is a safety hazard. Has nothing to do with feelings.

Yelling fire in a movie theater isn't a free-speech issue but a safety issue and a property rights issue. Theaters are allowed to throw people out who are noisy. That's their right. You'll get thrown out of the theater, but you're not going to get fined by the government for it, nor are you going to get fined thousands of dollars for simply hurting someone's feelings.

So yea, it's not free speech. You can call your limited speech "free speech", but it's not. If you want to enjoy real free speech, you must come to the USA. Sorry but that's how it is dude. Just because you give something a name like "free speech" doesn't mean it lives up to it.

Can you please provide proof of "Many Canadians move to America for free expression?"

Do your own research, lazy. Better yet, try meeting more people. I'm not going to write an essay on every single Canadian I've met for you. But I'll give you two prominent ones in the public: Gavin McInnes and Steven Crowder. These people couldn't say what they say or do what they do if they lived in Canada. They had to move to the USA. People from all around the world move to America for our freedoms. Surprised that never occurred to you.

Ouch.

I'm sorry dude but you come across as extremely clueless here. Lara Trump didn't say the networks were legally obligated to run the ads due to our constitutional amendment. Yet your posts is written as if she said just said. What she said is that the media claims to be champions of the first amendment. But due to this censorship, they aren't living up to their claim. And free speech is a principle that is exemplified in America. It's not simply a constitutional right, it's a principle upon which our country operates. It doesn't guarantee your ad air-time but it certainly does mean people here typically allow other people to express their views. It's what America is about. The MSM can't claim to be balanced, supporting multiple viewpoints, or supporting of free speech if they must strictly filter those opposing viewpoints to the point where they never reach the air.

I know it's hard to read past headlines and to avoid displaying the temperament of a 14-year-old girl (I know it's difficult with liberal views and such), but it wouldn't hurt to read the article so save yourself some embarrassment.

Given how cucked and self-righteous Canada has become it's not surprising.

Yea, I had no idea that Canada didn't even have freedom of speech until last year. They're pretty screwed in terms of politics and seem to be heading down a dark path.

(a) freedom of conscience and religion;

(b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;

This poster (Khandanime) is consistently factually wrong about everything I've seen him post about in this section.

He is a living and breathing alternative fact.

@KHAndAnime Why are you hiding again?

Who cares?

I'd rather live in the US at it's worst than Canada at it's best "and that's certainly not now since they just passed a law that's basically in function limiting any and all criticism of Islam"

Why is that important? You can't worry about how other people feel....you can't please everyone. Canada doesn't DO anything for us. If anything we help Canada.

You must hate your life than based upon how the majority of the world views the United States for decades now.. Hell countries hated the US during President Obama because he was doing the exact same things with the foreign policy that has been happening for decades now.. SO yes if you weren't bothered by this before Trump, than you are a hypocritical hack.. This is the problem I do not even like Trump what so ever, but its like the regressives have mastered the smug superiority with pretentious nonsense and some how have even surpassed the evangelicals.. Quite a accomplishment.

But here's the thing, it's never been this BAD until Trump started committing these actions and when even allies like Canada and the UK are looking down on us, there should be alarm. I know you hate Barack Obama with a passion (what, you flashing that "true liberal" badge and all), but as was said before by Maroxad, the world hated us MUCH less under his wing.

Do you actually listen to the crap dribbling from your mouth? Regardless of what Trump has done, it is no worse what the US has been doing for the past 30 years under multiple parties and presidents.. No I do not hate President Obama (I just don't put him on a freaking pedestal like so many people have done) , he was a better president than Trump, but stop with the hysterics it is why the left lost to begin with against hte worse candidate in history.

You tell him to stop with hysterics yet your posts reads like your foaming at the mouth in anger. You need to calm down.

And the bolded is very obviously your opinion. And others think differently, as evidenced by the fact the US is viewed more negatively now. There are plenty of sources to back this up.

There you guys go again, thinking that people are liberal for stating facts. Objectively speaking, you are both wrong.

The Best Countries report and rankings, formed in partnership with global marketing communications company Y&R's brand strategy firm, BAV Consulting, and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, are based on a survey that asked more than 21,000 people from four regions to associate 80 countries with specific characteristics. The Quality of Life sub-ranking is based on an equally weighted average of scores from nine country attributes that relate to quality of life in a country: affordable, a good job market, economically stable, family friendly, income equality, politically stable, safe, well-developed public education system and well-developed public health system. The Quality of Life subranking score had a 17 percent weight in the overall Best Countries ranking.

But don't let compiled data get in the way of whatever you heard on right wing talk radio today.

Here we go again with the subjective interpretation and cleverly finding a source that backs your conclusion

You do realize that those statistics means absolute Zip right? they can be made so they point out exactly what you want them to do.

But let´s look at the happiest countries then. And a more "neutral" source The UN

13Norway
2-1Denmark
30Iceland
4-2

Switzerland

Ups where is canada ?

But ask any middle class american if they would rather live in Canada and hear them laugh their head off, while most middle class canadians would most likely jump on the gun to move to the US.

Not forgetting that Canada has zero pull in the world, no one cares about them.

I like how you say "statistics mean absolute Zip" then go ahead and find another source that tries to back up what you said, despite the fact that Canada ranks SEVENTH on that list you are referencing, while the US is FOURTEENTH. The seventh best country is a pretty good thing to be, don't you think? That directly contradicts your original claim of Canada being "hell on earth"

I've lived in Canada for over 25 years and haven't ever heard someone who wants to move to the US from Canada. Do you have proof to back up your claim that "most middle class canadians would most likely jump on the gun to move to the US."?

Have you ever been to Canada?

You do get that it was to prove a point right? but i guess you like most snowflakes have a hard time with people not agreeing your views.

As to Canadians moving to the us.

Well, lets look (yes i know it´s statistics again)

Canada to the US - 800k - http://www.migrationpolicy.org/article/canadian-immigrants-united-states

US to Canada - 115k - http://canadaimmigrants.com/us-immigrants-to-canada/

Hmm....... hmmm............... And you were saying?
