[QUOTE="MonkeySpot"]"REEL Fishing: The Great Outdoors".

Yo Monkey! I just bought that game yesterday :P!!!!!!!!!!!!! that's strange :DYes, 'tis wonderous-strange, indeed! But then, I've known you to be a gamer of substance & discerning tastes in the past, so it doesn't surprise me that you are open to the idea.
:D
I have all of the "REEL Fishing" games (I was patently amazed when they ported RF I & II over for digital download)... They are really awesome games, as a palette cleanser if you will, from action games, etc. It's like this relaxing little game that suddenly becomes an obsession - Catching the target fish, or quota of fish... I genuinely love the series. They got a lot of the behaviors and techniques needed to land various species very accurately from the first game onward. It's not all in your face like those Bass Tournament games, there's no yelling and bright fonts flashing across the screen, no time limits, no real way to "lose" (though the fishies can steal baits or you lose one in a snag, etc - Grrrrr!). Just you and your tackle box, and some relaxing sounds. For those of us who grew up in Wisconsin, etc. fishing, it can be a really fun game. They're not for everyone, certainly, but I have turned quite a few folks into believers after they finish laughing.
I've heard more than a few gamers come back to these forums to thank me for my honest suggestions with the series - "I NEVER thought I would dig THAT..." etc., etc. They always think I'm being snarky, I've even been modded because people think there's no way in Hell I could possibly be serious, but I am. Search the title and you'll come up with quite a few of my posts under this screen name and one I used years ago before changing over to MonkeySpot permanently. I am seriously dedicated to this series. I don't much care for any other fishing games, but RF is one of my guiltiest of pleasures for all-time.
My top favorite of the series is still the very first "REEL Fishing" for the PSOne (available on the NA PSN for $4.99 - a STEAL), but I love them all and own them on several different systems. The first game has some impressive looped FMV for rivers, etc. and a nice ambient soundtrack (I always kill the music so I can hear the crickets and the running water). "REEL Fishing: The Great Outdoors" is basically a port of "REEL Fishing III" on the PS2, BTW.
Glad you decided to give them a try, RW!!! Make sure you check out the manual for lists on how to progress (goals for each location which will open the next spot). Let me know what you think after you get into it! They're perfect for when you don't want to bite your lip off with action games, but they can also keep you awake late and burning through your battery once you get into them.
:D
In fact, to celebrate your aquisition, I'm gonna fire up the ol' PSP right now and do a lil' casting.
Good fishing to you, RW!!! I sorta wish they had some multiplayer, now that I know you own the game!
:lol:
