Why in the world do Dualshock 3 controllers cost $55? That's almost as much as a new game! I think sony needs to lower the price by at least 10 dollars.

I agree they are a bit expensive. I am still using my sixaxis because I would rather have a new game than a new controller unless I really need one.

Exactly. Before the PS3 came out, new PS2 games were $50, and controllers were $20 I'm pretty sure. That's less than twice the price. But this gen, it only costs $5 less for a controller.

Its just one of those things that is basically a rip off in life and usually there is no way around it. Unless you know what your doing to get around it. A ps3 controller probably should not cost any more than $30 to be reasonable. They dont cost that much to make. Its like buying sf4 with arcade stick for $150. Well an arcade stick could probably be made a lot lot cheaper and still be completely compatible with the console so long as you know what your doing.

As far as getting around the controller thing well you could probably buy just about any controller thats compatible with the pc and it will connect to the ps3. The second part would be getting the console to recognize the controller which it may but it probably wont so you will probably need to google in to find so type of program that will make it compatible with the ps3. Not sure if there is a program for it but seeing as you can play pc games on a laptop with a ps3 controller its worth a shot.

They're quite expensive new i agree BUT not if you go 2nd hand and know where to look, i got 2 DualShock 3 controllers for 10 pounds each, i also got the official headset, the official camera (with eye of judgement included) and the official keypad all for 10 pounds each aswell.

I got them from my local cash genorator as they stupidly sell ALL controllers/addons etc for 10 pounds, all the ones i got were like new aswell :D, i've used them quite a few times to make a quick bit of cash aswell, for example i got the 360's wireless adaptor from them for 10 pounds and sold it to CEX for about 30 on the same day :D

You can easily find them for cheaper online. I purchased one from NewEgg for $43.

But yes controllers are ridiculously expensive. What's worse is that they cost that much and they dont even come with their usb cable for charging.

100% agreed considering Sony has been using the same controller since 95( still the best controller though).

Really the only major difference from the dual shock 2 is that it's wirless, and uses sixaxis. But that shouldn't double the price...

google in: use pc controller on ps3

it came up with some stuff so I guess you can use other controllers. I have never done this and don't know too much about it but I guess its possilbe if your looking for a cheaper alternative.

If the ps3 doesn't recognize the controller you could always try having windows on the ps3 and using the same set up you would to get the pc to recognize the ps3 controller just do that for the ps3. In other words all the programs and what not used on pc to recog ps3 controller do the same thing on ps3 as you would pc.

Six axis and DS3 cost the same, just price replaced. There isn't much point of getting more controllers unless you actually need them.

This....it would be better if they loose the accelerator (which probably would drop the price by at least 5 dollars), or they could give us the oppurtunity to buy controllers with cords only.

Well, considering the Wiis controller is $60 bucks, 55 for a dualshock 3 isn't that bad compared to the competition. (although it should be plain 49.99)

The 360s controller is 49.99, which is less. However, that is also to much. I think 39.99 would be a fine price for the DS3.

Because Sony already loses money on every PS3 it makes. It has just recently begun to bring down the cost of production.

LOL, everything is overpriced right? Seriously $50 for a DS3 is not bad, Wireless, motion controll, included battery, vibration these things cost money espiecally the battery. Now you look at $50 for a 360 controller which has to have a special cable to charge, battery which doesn't really hold a charge maybe 6-8 hours, no motion controll so ya I support the DS3 price tag and the PS3 current price tag.

Cheaper than a Wii remote or 360 gamepad.

But they're all pretty expensive.

The price of the DS3 isn't that bad. I happened to be walking around in a local Wal-Mart and got one for $50.00. Look at the price of third party controllers that may or may not work on the PS3 or certain PS3 games.

I'm ok with the price. Cause I already have 4 controllers:P I'd hate to go back to wired controllers and buying third party controllers is just straight up a bad idea. My friend bought a couple of wireless controllers for the PS2 and they really sucked and he wound up returning them. I tried to tell him not to buy them, well I didn't try I just flatly told him, lol.

So ya the DS3s are really well made and for that reason I do not complain.

Since sony has been selling PS3 at a loss for a long time, things like controllers, memory card converters, etc are going to cost a lot more.

Its competitively priced, new 360 controllers cost 59.99, The WiiMote cost 44.99 and the NunChuk costs 24.99 ... thats 70 freaking dollars!!! (**** you Nintendo). The DualShock3 is the cheapest of the 3.

Plus Sony has to make money back somewhere

Yes they are expensive but so is every other controller for the other systems. The Wii's are even more expensive for a full controller nunchuck plus wiimote. What is it like almost 50 just for the wiimote and like 25 or 30 for the nunchuck. At gamestop they had controllers the Dualshock 3 costs 55 and the link cables cost 10 dollars. The regular sixaxis ones cost 45.
