Hi guys, just dropping by for a survey. I'm interested to see what kind of results I'll get. I am now on my third PS3 due to two breaking down with YLOD. I originally bought a PS3 because I thought it would work better than the 360 but this hasn't happened so far. In fact its been just as bad. My first PS3 lasted two years before caving in and I had to pay Sony for another. The replacement I got lasted only 1 month. Both of these, and my third one, are all fat PS3 models since I can't yet afford a slim though I hear it works better. Whats interesting is at least 6 people on my friends list have had replacements. What I am wondering is if there is a greater PS3 failure rate than several PS3 owners have you believe. I am not here to troll or anything. Has anyone else had this error (or anything) with their PS3? Plus how many models have you owned and how long did they last? This is just a survey I'm not doing this on anyone's behalf, just interested. Thanks for any help.

I've had my PS3 slim for about a year now, no problems what so ever.

My brother has had his PS3 for 3.5 years now, the fat version. Still works, never had any problems with it. I don't know anyone that have had this YLOD issue with their PS3. Thus my friend's PS3 literally blew up 2 weeks ago. O.O"

YLOD is common amongst the original models. Simply a poor design compared to the newer models where the problem has been remedied. Don't want anymore ylod's? Then buy a newer model, problem solved.

I had YLOD on a 40GB ( purchased July of 2008 ) in February of this year. I completely babied that thing too, hell, I rarely played more then an hour a day average.

I had the 80GB since 2008 and In march it couldn't read discs at all so I sent it to Sony. Last month, it got the YLOD so I chose to get a slim and i'm glad I did.

All fat models will YLOD sooner or later, i had my 60GB for more then 2 years before it crashed, but eventually it did. And btw we don't know if slim models are really that much better, it hasn't been out long enough to know.

I got it.

It's at the repair shop right now. Hopefully it will be repaired and ready to go by tommorow.
