K i believe you. Im not that far into the game
the game is perfect in every aspect. but if u didnt play any of the others from the series u might get bored in the story and start to dislike itJAM1313When i got it i just played in easy mode and ran through all levels.
The first three.

This guy basically sum it up in three words. Even better if you played them in their respective years that they came out. You start to see how far technology has advance and how "you" the player has aged, just like Snake. Snake now feels more like an old friend rather than some video game character. If you want to know which MGS was the best in the series then that would be MGS3. MGS4 was like a tribute to all its fans so it deserves that ten rating even though 3 was the better game.

Dude you're missing what makes this game good. Don't rush through it. Upgrade your guns and just have fun shooting everyone. Get your AR/Shotguns/Pistols/Grenades/Playboy Mags and set up the AI to do something stupid or have them all come together at one place then blow them up at once. That's the beauty of the game--its that without the story you can still do whatever you want with the enemy AI (within the games limits of course).
Ya know I never really understood why people would buy a sequel to a game without having played the first few games.
Unlike Final Fantasy you need to play all of them to obviously understand the finale.:? Because the huge reason most love MGS is for the crazy ass story that took all these years to finish.:D
Not much ...
Just top-notch visuals and level design, totally evolved gameplay (from past games), great voice acting/dialogue/sound+music, an insanely elaborate story tying together two decades worth of plotlines, and loads of fanservice.
In the areas of gameplay, presentation, and story, it's pretty much as perfect and well-rounded as a game can be. There are many games that excel in one area or two areas, but MGS4 excelled in all of them.
I'll give you a simple answer. The Story. Honestly the gameplay is bleh, you run for 2 seconds then get a 20 minute cutscene, you run for another 3 minutes, and a 40 minute cutscene. You really have to be a fan of the first three to love this game.

Because the first 3 games weren't available for ps3 (all of them)...
I went to wikipedia to know a bit of the story and got the metal gear database to fill in some gaps too...
Started off slow for me but eventually picked up and the corridor level will be forever engraved on my memory :P
OH i should also add i love cutscenes, and these ones were amazing. I would lose hours watching them and not even notice. Felt like a movie and a pretty awsome one at that...
It was my first MGS game and it took me 17 hours to finish, I really liked it. Maybe I tricked myself into thinking I knew what was going on, but I felt like I understood most of it. Think I'm going to finish MGS 1 before the collection comes out. Anyone know when?
I can imagine it being very hard to feel fully engaged into the story without playing the first 3. For most fans of the series, MGS4 was amazing. While I do love the game, I personally find that MGS and MGS3 did a better job in the story and atmosphere department. Paticularly MGS. I thought that the gameplay, Codec calls, cutscenes were all done spectacularly. I remember sitting down just listening to codec calls for large sums of time. I don't think I've ever felt so immersed into a game since then.
Honestly for me it was the story. Had me sucked right into it. Even spent hours looking through the Metal Gear Database from the PS Store. The_Rick_14LOL i thought i was the only one who got the database! i was just going through it again the other day! its funny....but theres still thing locked up in the database and i cant figure out how to open. ive beaten all the MGS games..except the psp ones. not sure how to get them open...either. maybe i have to beat the game on a harder level...
have you played the first 3?I played it about 4-5 hrs, then put it down. Started it over like that 3 times and then just sold it. I am not a fan of the game. To each their own. I'm glad people really enjoyed it, however it was not for me.
corigan
its a good game??? thats news to me.jcopp72criticly acclaimed across the board. even IF i didnt like it, that alone would make it a game recognizable for being "good".
I played through MGS4 twice when it was first released. But I can't seem to bother with it now. It's not the best in the series, and after the first 2 chapters I found that it went in a terrible direction. Tried to play it again recently, made it almost to the end of chapter 1 and just said "screw it"
Didn't deserve a 10, or a GOTY nomination. MGS3 and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory make MGS4 look bad.
The game took me a long time to get to enjoy as well (nearly an hour in total, I believe) but once I got into it, I REALLY got into it. In fact it became the first game I got addicted to in a while.
does this game have long cut scenes, i've never played any of them b4 but i'm into action and don't like the idea of watching a movie when i want to play, been thinking about getting it but if it's like a movie>game then i guess i'm out, not bashing but any help would be appreciated............
