It all depends on your personal preference of gameplay. If you want cool, memorable characters and a pick-up-and-play offensive juggle-based game, go for Tekken. If ya want a well balanced game with a perfect blend of defense and offense, but with a longer learning curve than most fighting games, go for VF5. Granted, cool characters can be made in VF with its customization system.
In my eyes, though, VF5 will (and does) set the bar for all fighting games. Tekken 6 will have much to live up to. I've played Tekken before, and I've seen tournament and gameplay vids, and I all see is juggling, juggling, and juggling...! It's all about the combos, which any fighting game fan knows that one has to memorize and practice before getting very efficient at. To me, and to most others who have been turned off by this focus of gameplay, and thus have been turned off by fighting games in general (which is why no1 barely plays them in arcades anymore besides the hardcore...), Tekken is only for those who were fans of Tekken 3's gameplay. VF I prefer over any Tekken game, gameplay-wise. VF4 (which I bought a month ago) was the 3rd fighting game I ever gotten into (first it was SC2, then it was SF:AC). It's great, but it's a lil slow, but that's being fixed in VF5. VF5 is WAY more balanced than Tekken (almost every single player is used in VF5, while only a key few are used in tournaments in Tekken because they can string more combos). That's KEY to a fighting games's success, no doubt: balance. Also, there's so much more depth in VF5, which is why its the rage in arcades in Japan (or so the critics say). So, bottomline go for VF5.
