I guess now would be a good time to pick up your PS3 if you haven't already...As most of you know already, BC has now officially been removed from all future PS3 systems, one of the worst decisions ever made. What are your thoughts? I like playing everything on one console wirelessly. I still have all of my PS1 and PS2 games, and I play them here and there.

I'll tell you what I'm doing, I'm buying a Metal Gear Bundle now, and selling it in a couple of years unopened for double the price...

Either get one that is BC compatible like my 60gb, or get a ps2 on amazon for 30 bucks seriously.

Personally, I use my 60GB (now 320GB) all the time with regards to BC. Almost half of the games I play on it are PS1/PS2. I just don't understand the point of keeping PS1 compatability, but not PS2... Thats a hell of a way to market a system. Using all of my logic, software emulation would have been fine if they were to continue providing it in the premium console, like the 160GB. I'm starting to wonder now if they did away with the 2 exta USB ports and the memory card slots as well.

Oh yea, congratulations to everybody with a BC system, it now has a high resale value, kinda like a Honda.

I already own a refurbished 60 GB model from Gamestop Online, & I still own the older PS2 model.:)

Plus the only way that BC will be happening in the future with the PS3 models, is if PS2 dies out (which won't be happening anytime soon!). People who don't own either a 20, 60, or a older 80 GB model, or someone who doesn't own a PS2 already, will now have to wind up buying two Playstation models just for PS2 & PS3 games. Not to mention owning both would wind up costing you $530 w/tax. If people own a 40 GB model, or if people are planning to own a future PS3 model for PS2 games, then they're SOL.

Even if it's refurbished, like my 60 GB model is, I would say buy it. Your best bet is places like Gamestop online, or Amazon.

well if you want backwards compatability so bad just go out and buy a PS1 or PS2, and if you had one but sold it to get a ps3 then thats your fault. i have a 20GB and 60GB which have full b/c. muhahah! also i have 2 PS2 and a ps1 so either way i'm good to go.

The sad part about having to buy a PS2 is that it doesn't upscale, nor can you use official wireless controllers. Add in a memory card, and some more controllers and a multitap, all a bunch of stuff that makes the entertainment center look messy. Right now I have just my PS3 hooked up to my LCD, which plays all of my PS1, 2, and 3 games, a well as CD's/DVD's/BluRays. While it seems kind of trivial, BC of PS2 games is a major addition to my console, especially since I'm just now playing all of the RPG's I didn't have time for when I was in college. Since October, I've played through FFX and FFX-2 for the first time. I also began replaying MGS3, and had a little fun with games like Twisted Metal Head on and sonic mega collection. Too many to list. I guess my point is that I really appreciate the BC on my system. I suppose some people just don't need it.

Doesn't matter to me either. I also have a 60gb model. Even if I didn't I still wouldn't care because I still have a PS2. I'm actually quite surprised as to why this is such a big deal.

I just hope that they add PS2 games to the download service and also, I want more PS1 games like they have in Japan. I already sold all my PS2 games and honestly after years of hating on Digital Downloads, STEAM has really changed my mind on that. It is so friggin' convenient and getting to cut out the middle-man (i.e. Retail Stores) will allow us to get better prices (once there is more competition).

Even though I have my BC 80 gig, it do care and IMO it is very short-sighted of Sony. BC will not be patched in later because the Cell only emulates the Emotion Engine. You still need the Graphics Synthesizer chip, which is lacking in the 40 gig and upcoming PS3s.

Honestly I bought a 60GB off ebay about a year ago now so I could have BC and I barely use it. I beat Beyond Good & Evil for PS2 and played a lot of Devil Kings at first but now there are so many good PS3 games that my PS2 games just sit there and collect dust (just like my Wii games).

Spending 2 nights outside of Fry's was well worth it for me :D

It sux for sure, but Sony had it available for 2 years. You can't say, they didn't worn you... I just hope my 60 doesn't die and last the test of time, or I'll be one sad cookie. :( It's been freezing lately and I stopped playing ofr awhile. Im so scared for her; Im having a mental brake down.

Im pissed, because my brother just bought a 60GB from one of his friends, which the guy doesn't know anything about it (Came with his HDTV as a bundle) and payed $250. Im trying to buy it from him, but since I told him about pretty much everything, hes just keeping for the hell of it. O I forgot to mention, he has a 40GB in the front room. :| (Came with 4 games, 2 controllers, and about 3 Ps2 games also).

Good bye BC... someday you'll be back.. someday.

why would you buy a ps3 for ps2 games... most games coming out for ps2 are also coming out on ps3 and for the games you already have for the ps2 you can just play them on the ps2 you obviously have since you own the game.. unless you bought it cuz you liked the pretty box art... highly unlikely

I am really shocked by this. I was so confident that the new 80GB model was BCless because it was labeled the core model. I was sure the new premium pack would have emulated BC. I really don't know why it doesn't. I can't see how emulation would cost anything since they've already developed the software. I was all set to take the PS3 plung this fall, but now I'll continue to wait. I still have a backlog of PS2 games I haven't played yet (too much work, not enough time). I can play them on my PS2, but as others have said, I have limtied space in my entertainment console downstairs, and I would prefer to be able to play all of my Playstation games in one spot on one machine. I know it is a long shot, but I really hope Sony reintroduces emulated BC again at some point.

There's no way you could "patch" it back in. You need a physical chip to run PS2 games. Even the 80GB model which supposedly runs them in emulation. (the fact is that only the "Emotion Engine" CPU is being emulated. Not the more complicated "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU)

I still find it part of the incentive, to be able to play everything on one console. No more wires, no more memory cards, less confusion. I like the satisfaction of being able to put any playstation disc into my system, knowing it's going to work.

Even though its not too big of a deal for me, I'm glad I got my 80GB while my local Kmart was still barely in stock so I can play MGS 1-3 and GoW 1 and 2 as well as a few PS1 games still. Like some mentioned, Sony went through with this to save manufacturing costs.

Who cares about BC. The era of the PS2 is over. Sony already won last gen. If you want to play ps2 and ps games buy a ps2. PS3 is about this gen. BC isnt important, and only a handful of people play last gen games. Sony is trying to convert is ps2 users into ps3. Thats why they removed BC.

The NES was a far more durable system compared to the PS2 (mostly because it didn't have a disc drive). I wouldn't expect there to be nearly as many working PS2s left in the same span of time.

That is a simple minded response based on the point I've been trying to make. You are entitled to your opinion though.

I still find it part of the incentive, to be able to play everything on one console. No more wires, no more memory cards, less confusion. I like the satisfaction of being able to put any playstation disc into my system, knowing it's going to work.

Plus of course what happens when your old PS2 breaks down? Sony isn't going to keep making new ones forever.

Are you talking about the same NES where you had to blow the cartridge and pray it will work? Durable than the ps2? did you just pull that out of ur ass? LOL.
