One of my friends brought over his PS3 so he could show us his games, but his PS3 won't work on our TV (all we get on each channel we try is a black screen)and the only things we had hooked up to the TV are a PS2 and a VCR. Anyways, he said his PS3 works on his TV and neither of us have HDTVs. Can somebody please help me figure out what's wrong?

Check out the manual online for a "hard reset" of the video for the PS3. The PS3 may be set for the video resolution of his TV which may be different than yours (though if they are both not HD, there shouldn't be an issue).

Make sure all the connections are in (duh, but had to be said).

Try a different television.

From Sony:

Then, with only the PLAYSTATION®3 and the TV connected, touch the system's power button for more than 5 seconds to turn the system back on. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution.

Once its set for one TV. If played on some other one or another setting. It has to be changed. Its not that hard, but alot thought their ssystem was broke because of this. When it was just not set. Or someone brought over HD component cables to a tv that does not have that in.

One of two things. You had the tv on the incorrect input or The video connector wasn't completely into the PS3 in the back.

The most likely problem is the wrong input was selected for your TV. The best thing to do is try the reset option on the PS3 when it doesn't work.

This is some what correct and thank you! I was frustrated for an hour! But the trick is to turn it off, and when you press it to turn it on you leave your finger pressed on it for 5 secs and it makes these beeps, then you let go and see the screen start to shift. The way you explained it (if I read right) when on you press the button for 5 secs for it to turn off and then turn it on. I did this 4 times and nothing to I did it the other way and it worked.
