Alright, I have a Dell 20inch monitor, and I HAD a Dell Dimension3000... I'd plug my PS3 into the monitor via HDMI to DVI cable, then I would run red and white audio cables into the blue colored LINE IN port, my speakers would then play sound from the green port.

NOW, a few days ago I got a Dell XPS420. The sound will not work!!! Is it Vista? do I need to update drivers? PLEASE HELP!!!

If you have a stereo you can run those red white audio cables into it and display your ps3 in HDMI but switch audio to SD cables thats how I get sound so my computers not involved at all.

I could do that, but I rather just have it wired into the same speakers. I searched for driver updates and got nothing... I wish SOMEBODY had this same problem.

You could get some new speakers... with actual inputs that don't involve it going through your computer... Like this for $215:

if the sound stopped by itself, this has happened to my ps3, just wait it out. I turned off the ps3 and it came back like 1 hour later.

ok, I'm starting to discover the problem... its SigmaTel audio, something to do with Vista playing Big Brother and locking (AND muting) your line-in jack... have to make registry edits... yikes.

I lose audio all the time. Go to your sound settings on your PS3 and have it automitically detect the sound settings again. I think it loses the sound connection with HDMI cable when it comes in and out of the game.
