1) 2.4 will have the messaging system and in-game xmb access
2) Music will not be functional as of yet as the devs just got the new tools to impliment this feature in
3) trophies will also not be functional as the devs just got the new tools to impliment this feature
4) A patch will be required for previous games to have the ability to use trophies/music

I don't believe what you just said is 100% accurate. In game music, is more like background music. It's no different then what the PC and 360 does. You just play music from the XMB over your current game you are playing. I think the reason it took so long for Sony to figure out how to get it to work, is because that will eat up some RAM, and they needed to find out how to do that without killing the games. So "In game Music" should work on day one.... but I could be wrong, well I doubt i'm wrong.
"The user-music functionality is only included in the new development tools, which have now gone out to coders. This means that existing games won't support it unless they're patched. That's right: you won't be able to play GTA IV with your own music unless Rockstar updates the game, if what we've been told this morning is true."
The games that our out have to be patched for in-game XMB.
Yea but...
-Sony is currently shifting through the PlayStation 3's library of games in order to see if the XMB is fully compatible or not. It is expected the new menu system, in-game messaging etc will function in all games, though the current black menu screen will likely be retained for the majority of titles.
So Sony is already checking to make sure that it's working in the games. Therefore 2.40 update should be the patch to allow it for all games.
the devs will have to pathc their own games....it'll be in the form of one of those updates you get when you put the disc in. it clearly states that games will need to be patched
my question is why patch something a game, when the music has nothing to do with the game. Like i said this is no different then playing music on your PC while you play a game. It's not like I want it in the game option, i just want to access my IN game XMB click a song, it start playing, and keep playing when i switch back over to the game.
I don't know if Sony did it like that though, we'll have to see once it rolls out. and as for Sony testing as far as I read the article says they tried the messaging part and stuff I never read them trying the music stuff.
The game has to be patched because the music just does not play over the music in the game. It has to stop the game music and play yours. Like in High Velocity Bowling, this game already has in-game music. It stop the music in the game and lets you play your own IN PLACE of it, not ON TOP of it.
Exactly, I had oblivion for the 360 and tried out using my own music.
it turns off the background music of the game, and puts yours in. BUT all of the sound effects of your weapons and people talking to you still remained in the game.
Ahh... I see. Yeah, I thought that was a really cool feature and was admittedly confused about how it was implemented. Now I get it. But if it's not patched in will it still play OVER the game, because most games give the option to kill the music, after all.
yea seriously, don't worry about patching the game for that, just go into your options and turn the game music off. Make's it easier for Sony, plus we don't have to wait so long for another f'en patch
