I'm not a DS fanboy but I do play mine a lot. There are a lot of great titles on it: FFXII:RW, Castlevania, Advance Wars, Zelda. If only it had a 2d Metroid...*sigh*

I'm not anti-PSP, I'd actually be interested in getting one. But its library has seemed less than impressive until recently (GoW, Patapon, FFCC:VII). With these titles coming out I really see the system hitting maturity and finally having enough titles out to warrant a purchase.

So here's my question: Did you know you were taking a chance on your PSP if you got it before these titles or were you already convinced by the titles that had already come out? Or, in other words, in your opinion when did the system become officially worth getting in terms of available titles?

I got mine 2 years ago and am very happy with it, never board but one can make a great case that only now would it be worth it to get one. Still isn't that the same with anything. I have the Phat one too! now thats Old school and i didn't regret waiting for the thin one.

I'm not sure who said this but i like it.

"i would rather regret something i did, than something i didn't"

i have had mine since October 2005, and i haven't had any regrets yet. I agree with what you said originally, with the library "hitting maturity" with GoW and FFCC:VII, but lumines, when it came out originally, was amazing as was locoroco and lemmings. I also own plenty of UMD movies and without any spectacular games in the beginning, the portable movies alone kept me a fan. Don't get me wrong, i love my ds and find both to be extremely fun. I have been playing my ds a lot more with FFXII:RW and Professor Layton, but i have a feeling its about to be switched for awhile with me picking up FFCC:VII and GoW this week. IMO, pick up a PSP (new or used) and start enjoying.

I've had mine since launch and I've always been satisfied with the library. I've got a growing backlog of PSP games to get through. So little time.

Now. I got mine about a month ago and it's great, I'd gotten bored of my DS, so I though hey why not get a PSP, I'm getting Def Jam (I freaking loved that game on GC) and GTA next week, to add to Burnout and Syphon Filter, and also God of War as soon as I get enough money, gotta save for Mario Kart Wii next.Basically if you look at PSP as a handheld like a Gamboy then you'll find it strange, but if you see it as a portable console, which is what it is, then you'll love it.

I'm not putting the DS down in no way, but I just have to defend the fact that most of the DS games out now where games that came out on the Sony PSone system, and none of those games are on the PSP. I was like wtf, why is it so? the graphics on the PSP are way better than of that of the DS, but then again the DS is just a different experience then the PSP. On the DS I've noticed more kid style games like pokemon, and the a great abundance of action titles. Many of which you won't see on the PSP.

IMO getting a PSP is the best investment you can get. Games, Movies, Internet, Chat, Mp3, and still more. What more can you ask for...

IMO the psp is always worth the money it costs cos it's like a mini computer that lets you play good games, play music and vide, browsing and many other features.

i've had mine when they came out first and i'm always using it

I got mine two weeks ago... god of war and crisis core pretty much tipped the scales for me... i still gotta find a copy of crisis core haven't seen one yet... for me it was the price i got a pretty good deal on my slim $180 for the slim, Metal Gear Portable Ops and 2 gigs... plus my ps3 was getting lonely and my DS was just collecting dust after Zelda... that and i'm finally reunited with one of my favorite game of all time Street Fighter Alpha 3 it plays great on the PSP... there so many things you can do with music, videos, games it's the total package... plus I still got a bunch of games to get in the future... Wipeout Pulse, Tekken, Castlevania, Burnout... it should keep me busy for a while... I have no regrets getting it

The PSP became worth getting about now, but I got mine 2 years ago. I've had a lot of fun with SSX on Tour. I'm currently playing GoW:Chains of Olympus and I love it, especially the music. I'm about to start playing FF:CC as soon as I finish gow. It's great being a PSP owner today.

It was worth it when SFDM & Daxter came out the same month. IMO it was never a gamble I've always felt that Sony is way better than Nintendo's kiddie stuff. I'm a solid Playstation fanboy & I have both current Nintendo systems, the DS & WII, I also have an X-box & a Ps2 & Ps1. I have always liked full game experience like story & plot w/c games for most Nintendo doesn't have, what can I say FF7 & MGS won me over.

I think your problem is that you are only looking at the big name titles and aren't paying attention to the less hyped games, which the PSP excels in. I think it was worth it since launch day, since that is when I got mine.

I'm the guy who started this thread a few days ago. Since then, I bought a PSP along with GoW and FFCC:VII. Wow. I have been missing out. Don't get me wrong, the DS is an amazing system with an amazing library of fun and sometimes innovative games and I love it to death. But the PSP games look so amazing and play like PS2 games. I've only popped in GoW so far and it is absolutely stunning. I'm glad I decided to get a new system that can REALLY handle 3d action games instead of biding my time on the DS scribbling away at Ninja Gaiden.

IMO, it was worthit when it was redesigned to what is now called the PSP Slim & Lite which made it more ergonomica. Let's not forget the additional RAM they put in the slim. Second reason, back in 2004 it would've cost you an arm and now it's more affordable. Third, the titles are getting better and better, comparing it way back around 2004-2006.

Back then, it was more of a vanity gadget. It's hefty price tag enstranged the average gamer who couldn't afford it.

i was convinced that i would enjoy my PSP when i got it last August because of Jeanne D'Arc, Disgaea, and FFTWotL. plus i knew that God of War and Crisis Core were coming out some time this year, so i felt secure about the system's future. i also got Daxter, Burnout Legends, Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, and a few other games, and i really like it.

My first PSP title was GTA Liberty City stories. That was it for me. It's a PS2 game on the go. Some of the PSP games are just OK to me, even the big ones like Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops. The camera angle gets annoying sometimes for some games. But both GTA's, God of War, LocoRoco, and Patapon are all great games. The PSP is an awesome piece of technology, you should give it a go.

When it first ame out. The games that make it worth owning for me are MGS Portable Ops, Killzone, Syphon Filter, FF Tactics, and the like.

I don't why I forgot this game, but having GTA on the go was a big factor for me getting a PSP.

What a great thread; lots of portable gaming love with no bashing or plain fanboyism :)

Now if everyone understood how enjoyable and great handheld gaming is, the world would be a better place :) Anywho, ever since the PSP Slim was announced I've wanted one, even more and more as time goes by and I keep loving handheld gaming. If I don't hear any official word on the rumored PSP 3000 I'll be gettin' myself a Piano Black PSP 2000 this July.
