Yes and No. You will need a flash-drive to install the firmware onto your PS3, unless you have an older backward compatible one. I recommend a good size flash-drive or external drive so you can back up your saves (unless you have it on the cloud). So, it isn't one of those plug and play type of things, since you will need to put the firmware on the flash-drive which then is installed onto the new hard-drive.Time out. So you can just plug that baby into your PS3 and you now have a 500 Gig?

This is important information to note. I was freaking out when I upgraded my HDD and it didn't seem to work. Downloaded the firmware onto a flashdrive and was at ease.Time out. Im getting conflicting reports on what is compatable Some say certain brands don't work well or at allangryassdrummerAs long as it's 2.5" SATA, 9.5mm thick, should be fine. There are a couple of WD drives which have some kind of file/format utility that don't work in a lot of laptops tho. If you buy it from somewhere that has product reviews, many of the reviews will say if it's PS3 compatible.
