The games still look great with an SDTV. HD is even better (of course) but not needed

An HDTV is not needed, but will make it look even better. I have been playing my PS3 on an SDTV for about 4 months now and there is a BIG difference between PS2 and PS3 games, no complaints. I plan on getting an HDTV as soon as the prices drop on 1080p tv's.

i had a 360 and then sold for ps3 and had both on sd, but occasionally had them on my dads hd, it looks great either way, how could the ps3 loose its $1000 price tag just because of YOUR tv?

No it's not worth it if you don't have an HDTV, because the whole sense of having something fresh and new and high tech go out the window. I've had my PS3 since New Year's eve, and I can say that I really recommend that any future PS3 owner need to get an HDTV first. Please. You won't regret it.

It's just that you don't get as many lines with 1080i than you get with 1080p.

Yes, but on the 1080p there aren't that many lines to begin with. Well, now that you say that sometimes I see some on mine. But I have a cheap HDTV. I paid like $600 for it.
